    Ubuntu Linux 16.04.1 works flawlessly

I needed a lightweight and small machine on which Linux would work without having to jump through hoops. I also liked the folding touch-screen feature. After ruling out a few options for which people reported incomplete or flaky Linux support, I zeroed in on this laptop. I initially hesitated because I read some bad reviews about the design quality of this machine, but my past positive experience with Dell (both in terms of quality and Linux support), made me still go for it. It turned out that I was quite happy with my choice. I believe that reliability problems that some people have reported are probably isolated incidents, rather than the general rule. Other than having to disable UEFI secure boot, Ubuntu 16.04.1 installed flawlessly and everything worked out of the box, including the touch screen and WiFI, which the most common hardware-compatibility problem when installing Linux. Both worked fine even when booted from the LiveCD. The machine works great, although my impression is that it drains the battery a bit faster on Linux, compared to Win 10. I guess not all device drivers on Linux are using all the PM features that vendor provides. The main complaint I would have about the design is that the touch pad is so big that it is easy to touch is accidentally, while typing, which causes the mouse cursor to move to other section of the screen. This is particularly annoying if you use the focus-follows-mouse setting. I could also use another USB port. The machine has one USB 3.0 (SS) port, one USB2.0 port and one USB-C port. The lack of uniformity can be annoying because you have to watch what you connect where and have the variety of cables handy. This laptop does not come with a CD/DVD drive nor the Ethernet interface (it's WiFi only), so if you need to use these, you will need external devices and that already burns two USB ports.

I've had my laptop for a year now and have used it regularly. It was an excellent choice; I've used it for everything from college work to streaming videos and casual gaming. It was a little expensive, but I managed to snag it while it was on sale. The price I paid was definitely worth it. I expect to use this laptop for several more years.

This computer has been a workhorse for my business. It's fast, reliable and also does well as an online streaming display. I didn't think I needed the flip capability, but it's a nice feature watching online video. I use this computer at least 7 hours a day. Lightweight, fast, it just does a great job. However, the battery life is a huge disappointment. I have had the computer just over a year and the battery is completely useless and cant hold a charge, I can only use plugged in which limits its portability - my reason for a laptop. The error message appears "exchange battery" no kidding. After only one year, this shouldn't be the case.

    Amazing laptop, but screen is..

The laptop is great for the price. Smooth performance, good sound, decent screen, and battery life is close to 5-6 hours. My only complaint is that I bought the first of 2 from Best Buy and the the first one I got had Screen bleed at the bottom corners of the screen and so I went and got it replace and the second one has the same issue. You can only see it when the screen is entirely black. I kept the machine, but it's just something to be aware of. Otherwise I really like it and it's amazing for the price.

This product provides my daughter with the flexibility of getting her assignments done with the feel of being on a tablet. Light weight & durable. Provides great processing power and wireless connection. Tablet and touch screen are excellent which provides even that much more flexibility. This computer will take her through at least her first 2 years of college and I feel longer. The solid state drive is awesome.... I would only suggest getting a solid state hard drive. Great purchase for the price...... besides she LOVES it. Has used a computer more since this purchase (last 4-5 months) than she has in the last 3 yrs.

This is my second Dell Inspiron touchscreen after having bought one for my parents. This laptop is amazingly smooth offering a high memory space, it powers on super quick due to the SSD. Given the the cloud storage being offered these days I found 512gb sufficient my regular work on files and storing 100 odd movies and 250 songs and about 2500 hi res pics. It reasonably light... I have used lighter HP elitebooks at work but I prefer this to them. It doubles up nicely as a tablet as i am fond of sketching. Not every model has the stylus so look out for that.

This laptop replaces a Surface Pro 3 that unfortunately got dropped. The display resolution isn't as high as the Surface, but the colors are bright, blacks are sharp, and I have no problems seeing it in bright daylight. Startup time is great (partial credit goes to Win10 fastboot), and the infrared camera used for Windows Hello picks up my face correctly every time. Had a few different people try to trick the camera - even my brother wasn't able to trick it. The 6th generation core i7 is quick, and 12gb ram has proven to be enough. Playing an HD video on one side with a game on the other (light gaming; nothing very intensive) resulted in no lag. I don't do a lot of photo/video editing, so most of what I do doesn't push the limits. Using chrome with 8-10 tabs and Internet Explorer (for work compatibility) simultaneously has not been an issue at all. Compared to the SP3, this laptop is heavier (nearly 1 lb), so tablet mode isn't as satisfying. The Dell is also thicker than the SP3 as the keyboard doesn't detach. Having the security of a more solid chassis has been enough to offset that convenience. Battery life? Stellar. I can leave the charger at home while I'm out for the day. Main battery killer I have seen is using 3rd party video players. Microsoft's Videos app seems to be the only one that doesn't drain. This might be because of 3rd party apps using software decoding where Videos uses hardware.

It's a dream laptop; excellent HD quality watching; flip it and it's already a tablet; light; battery keeps very long; very efficient and quick; love to navigate the screen with a touch; love that keys are lighted, so cool. Lots of storage for my photos, music and videos. Built in presentation Panel is excellent! It's love from first sight and touch.

Awesome laptop and powerful too! Excellent price too! I was originally looking at the Surface Books and the Lenovo. I started talking to a Blue Shirt and he made me realize that this laptop had more storage, it was i7 and had more memory and for a lower price. The only difference being the screen is bit smaller. The surface book seemed awesome but i can still draw on the screen with this, its a touch screen, can be folded into a tablet etc. excellent laptop for well under $1000 on sale!

This Dell computer was the perfect for my daughter. She is starting college and looking into an engineering degree so speed and power were essential, but she wanted something thin and lightweight but also sturdy. Honestly this Dell was amazing, and the deal offered through Best Buy for students was the icing on the cake. A month into using it daily and she is even happier then the day she got it. From streaming to engineering this computer does everything asked of it and more.

Light weight and thin, easy to use and setup. Very fast with the SSD. Only 2 USB ports, so I had to purchase a blue tooth mouse, but it seems to work fine. The touch pad buttons are part of the touch pad meaning that if you have one finger on the button and one finger dragging an item, you might move the mouse if you rock the finger on the button. Overall pleased with it.

Overall, I'd say this is the perfect laptop for the average college student. It packs in portability, speed, and functionality all for a good price. The 500gb SSD alone makes this laptop a steal, and the 2 in 1 ability caters to all type of users. Super fast so far, I don't have any complaints about this amazing machine.

Almost the perfect multi-purpose laptop! It is solidly built. Fast, compact in size, smooth edge for easy handle, long battery life. The only down sides are: 1. No battery swap option for extended usage on field, 2. A bit dense. Would like to see it lighter. 3. If the screen can turn when user fold the laptop in tablet mode so, to avoid keyboard face downward would be good.

I've had this one month and still running like it's brand new. I7(6500) and 512gb solid state drive very quick. No problems with windows 10 so far. Battery life good. About 5 hours. Got it on sale for a very good price. Well worth the money.

Love the Dell 13 7000. This is my second, previous unit sold to my son. The i7 with 12gb and SSD has enough speed for just about any program except the most demanding. I run PS Lightroom on mine and it does remarkably well. The size and weight are about perfect. Screen resolution very good. Makes a very nice highly portable unit.

Whether you’re interested in performance, versatility or battery life, the Dell Inspiron is a winner. With an i7 processor, 500GB SSD and 12GB of RAM, the performance is great. Pairing this with a battery that last most of the day, how can you loose?
