This unit is all I need for basic internet usage. After installing an 8GB RAM stick I completely formatted the HDD and installed Ubuntu 14.04LTS. This works fine for me. I'm NOT A GAMER.
There is only one RAM stick slot.
The only RAM stick upgrade for this unit is an 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz SDRAM SODIMM, CL11, 1.35V, Non-ECC . As far as I know a 16GB RAM stick will not work.

The Dell inspiron desktop, is a decent entry desktop for the usual things such as using Microsoft Office, surfing the internet, things such as this. It cannot handle games, as it was built for this. They Keyboard is decent but coming from a Windows XP dekstop to this, I felt the keyboard took a while to get used to the button style.

This computer was easy to set up, had a few problems with installing some software, but overall pretty easy. This was a gift for my mother who mainly just uses it for email and basic home use.

Perfect dell hard drive for my mother in law.
She had a very old one and this seems to be working just great for her! She is in her 80's and the computer is her main source of entertainment & to write book reports on from her book clubs

Bought this PC on the cheap, cheap for just over 200 bucks. Was replacing an outdated system my family in laws had sitting around which was causing me too much grief for the effort of maintaining it. Small, compact, though not a huge improvement, they love its new feel efficiency and its much faster and easier to maintain, being as small and compact as it is. Good for the simple things in life, but probably not much more than that.

I bought this for my young daughter. She has taken to Windows 8.1 faster than expected, typical for the young kids these days! She likes it a lot. It's fast enough for what she does and I finally get my laptop back for good!

This is a solid basic computer that runs well. I am a lt. user on the pc, and find the speeds, capacity, start-up & shut-down speeds to be better than average.

Once you use this tower a few days its real easy to use. Took me a couple weeks to figure out all with Windows 8. But once got understanding done its been real easy and fun to use. And maybe the fastest computer I have used yet. I have owned PC's since 1996 and this is my 2nd Dell. I had best luck with Dell's over all other bands.

This Dell Inspirion is a solid choice for a basic home computer. Plenty of storage space and RAM for almost any need. I see 2 downsides... one is Windows 8, I don't like it but I can live with it. The other downside is that this computer only has four (4) USB ports. If you plug in a keyboard, mouse, and speakers, you'll only have 1 more USB port left for your printer, external hard drive, flash drive, and any other peripheral requiring USB connection. I solved this problem by getting a Belkin 4-port USB hub, which turns one powered USB port into 4 non-powered USB ports, which work fine with my mouse, keyboard, speakers, and printer.

This computer was purchased to be used as a media server. I was impressed with the transfer speeds (using USB 3.0 Port). Overall nice compact computer and should stand the test of time and has enough memory to serve a long time.

Bought this for our business as a community computer to run all our applications and has been perfect for the job and inexpensive which was great for a small business. We keep all our info on the cloud so fit the bill for what we need - Web Browsing, Accessing cloud applications, etc.

I was disappointed to discover that I don't have the free Microsoft Works program, which is plenty sufficient for my needs. I don't need the full fledged Word program, which I would have to buy.
