At this point there isn't much I can say about the inner workings of this computer. Purchased an open box item after it was sold out everywhere. It was suppose to have been checked and certified by the Geek Squad and with full warranty. Upon setting it up the dvd drive was not working or reading discs. Had to unplug it and bring it back to Best Buy and because it was still considered brand new they had to send it out for repair and that was 2 weeks ago. Still not back yet.

I wish this site had a negative star rating! This desktop luxury item has been the loudest home PC I have ever purchased. With this particular desktop, you will literally be forced into wearing noise cancelling headphones each time you enter the room to perform any work on the device. Once the device starts up (after around nine minutes), the desktop will trick you into thinking it is super fast- which it is not. You will be forced into waiting ten seconds each time you want to open a new window, and data transfers of for example 40MB will take around 50 seconds. I could attribute this to the fancy new Windows 10 edition that came pre-installed with the device, because I have read all of the reviews of how windows ten took a backward step from Windows 7, but I cannot say for sure. I will be building my own desktop next time instead of spending money on something I have been stuck with for over a year and a half now. I imagine I will begin that project in the next couple of months-around the 2 year mark of ownership- at least I won't have the grinding sound of a computer fan to hum along to when I do it.

As an every day computer for most tasks this is plenty of machine. 12 gig memory is sufficient, hard drive size is adequate and the i7 processor is top-notch. However, for the price it’s probably too much processor for the average user. An i5 for general use and web surfing would save some $ and be fine. Graphics and memory are lacking for a high end system. The i7 processor is a great foundation for future upgrades though. I’ll be adding a new graphics card and more memory to mine. The case is fairly compact and attractive but I would prefer more front-facing USB ports. 2 in front isn’t quite enough but there are 4 in back for a total of 6. With more memory and better graphics it would be a 5 star machine but a solid 4 as is.

What can I say! The specs speak for themselves for this machine. It was easy to set up right out of the box as I would expect by any windows device these days. I have been using this to design embroidery patterns and it runs photo shop wonderfully and renders the embroidery patters very quickly. What was taking a couple minutes on my old machine takes just a few seconds on this one. The 12 GB of memory really work well with the processer however as others have noted, the hard drive seems as it would slow things down for gaming. However, for my purposes, with my embroidery, web surfing and writing, this is a great system. Other notes: -USB Ports on front and back are easy to get to. -Built in optical drive is nice for those rare occasions where I need to install something from a disk. -Runs very quietly. -Only one video port though..... would be nice to have two outputs.

I bought 2 of this same computer, due to running a business from separate locations. I've only had these for 1 year, and recently took one in for repair. Needless to say, both are by far the worse purchase in computers I have made. Takes too long to open programs, freezes up, constantly have update issues, opens almost every time in the diagnostic window-with some performance issue. I do not recommend this computer.

Had to do a factory restore the 1st week I had it, HD is noisy, went in and talked to geek Squad about the issues I was having and still had problems. Did another factory install after 6 months and at 64% complete, there it sat for HOURS. After rebooting for SEVERAL times, it took me to Dell Support Assistant installed software and from there it FINALLY restored. Guess it is running OK now and it is for sale, went back to HP.

    Powerful Machine with few limitations

I am a computer programmer and have used this system mainly for that purpose. I am able to run multiple IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) along with standalone app servers as well as database server on it simultaneously with out any issues. Even though the out-of-the-box configuration was good enough for me, I have replaced the hard disk with a 500GB SSD to take the performance to next level. I have paired it up with the Dell 27" monitor which supports 2560x1440 resolution and I am more than happy with the system as well as monitor. It gives me enough screen real estate to have multiple windows on the screen simultaneously which is a big productivity booster and a must for me. The i7 processor, 12 GB memory and SSD upgrade have turned this machine into an amazing work horse and it has been able to handle as much work load as I have thrown at it (so far). I don't play PC games so not sure about the performance of it as a gaming unit. Two main issues that I faced with this machine (and hence 1 less star) are: 1. SSD upgrade is not easy as there are no additional power cables from power supply. You will need a Y splitter adapter. 2. The included Wifi is the Qualcomm QCA9565 which only supports the 2.4GHz band. No support for 5GHz wifi. I am using a USB adapter for that. So, overall it is a power machine with two main limitations for me but these can be easily overcome. I would recommend this for most of your day-to-day use.

High Powered Computer For The Avg/Above Avg User

Pros - Clean look - Front audio port allows input and output - Accepts multi-screen display - Bluetooth built in. Works great for audio! Cons - Windows 10 Home edition lacks some useful tools (Ex. Remote Desktop) - Wireless N card instead of AC/5G - Included wired keyboard and mouse from circa 2005 Dell has lost some of its historical luster over the years, becoming the computer of the average business or local government entity. I’ve utilized Dells over the course of my career with little impression left. I attribute using a Dell to eating a rice cake. It’s just there. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this tower. Its power seems pretty substantial. I run an application called Plex on the machine that is a streaming host for my personal movie and music collections. At times, there are four to five of us streaming different items. I have not noticed a single problem when doing this. This tower sits on my desk and even when working hard, noise is not noticeable. The lack of an AC/5G wireless card was a little surprising. A machine with these specs could really do with a Wireless card to match. When talking about speed, an SSD replacement for the current HDD would probably be the most noticeable and cost effective upgrade. I would definitely recommend this to the average/above average user, however, if you’re one to upgrade cards, drives, etc, buyer beware. There are no extra power harnesses. And Dell’s power system has proprietary cabling. Extra parts will also be needed to install additional HDDs.

Set up was atrocious and couldn’t get activation codes for Windows or Office from Dell. Dell tech support terrible. Within 10 days of purchase it did a blue screen of death attributed to hardware issues. Was reticent to buy Dell. Big mistake. Wouldn’t buy another Dell

      JamRocker,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear about the troubles that you've been having with your new Dell computer. If you experience Blue Screen Errors in the future you can always follow these steps to diagnose your issues:

      1. At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "problem reports".
      2. Select View all problem reports to view a list of errors that have occurred on your computer and possible solutions for them, such as updating drivers, flashing your system BIOS, or checking for updates to the software.
      3. Under the Source column, look for Windows and under Summary, look for Shut down unexpectedly.
      4. Right-click the line item and select Check for a solution.

We'd also suggest checking to make sure that your software and drivers are up to date on Dell's Product Page - https://dell.to/2LBc0Up.

I got this to replace my old desktop in preparation for my kids to use for school. It was an old 2004 HP unit that still works, but limited internet interactions due to windows xp on it. I wanted them to have their own uncluttered unit. I have 2 laptops that run windows 10, so this was no issue navigating the set up. The unit starts fast and layout is uncluttered, but there is not a lot on here to begin with, mainly the operating system and hardware is what I got. They did not offer a Blu-ray disc at this price point, but having a DVD burner is not the norm for many computers today, so I appreciate that. I have an external Blu Ray drive I can use if needed. Office is that crumby 360 subscription version and only a 30 day trial, so I did load office 2016 (purchased separately). The cyberdvd player software is minimum, I may add Nero later. There are bundled games my sons will enjoy (Minecraft) also. Hardware wise, I'm a bit dissapointed 7.1 surround only on HDMI off Nvidia graphics card, because I have older 7.1 speakers that connected with my 2004 computer, now they are reduced to 5.1. also, it won't connect via WiFi with my cannon pixima 620 printer, but all my other windows 10 units do. I think it's because those were upgrades to windows 10 and still have residual windows 7 or 8 drivers that work for it, but it does work by USB, so I moved my printer to the desk and connected it. It does do 4k video, looks good on my monitor. It appears to only be a single band wifi receiver, bit dissapointed since dual band is pretty standard on most laptops and such. It only finds my my 2.4ghz band. For a system pre-put together and bought off the shelf, and for the price of around 800 dollars, it's what I expected. Price on best buy is comparable to Dell and other places. A basic system that my kids can do homework on

The Dell Desktop is a great machine and came out of the box ready to work. Took about ten minutes to get it set up, registered and updated! It is a full-size box, with loads of room to add additional drives of specialty cards. The styling is very sleek with two USB 3.0 ports on the front, along with SD drive and CD/DVD writer. I like the fact that there are not any little 'doors' to be hanging open or break off! The back has four USB ports and at least three empty full size slots (one is taken up with the excellent video card). Finally, in physical aspects, the machine is very quiet and is not generating heat. Came with standard wired mouse and keyboard, which was great since I had not bought any! On performance, I tried to slow down the machine by opening several apps and programs, running video from the DVD and streaming at the same time and did not have any problems at all with any slow downs or crashes. Smoooooooooth would be the word I would use for this machine. I have a high end digital camera and do livestock photography. I also create webinars and podcasts for my day job and I know that this machine will be my workhorse for getting things done. With a couple of big monitors, I feel like I can work on several items at once. I've had Dell machines at my work, but this is my first Dell desktop. I am very very pleased with it!

Purchased on sale, good machine! The additional graphics card is a little dated but good for Flight Sim and other graphics heavy games. Once I put a SSD into this machine its super fast on start up and pulling up Adobe CC programs.

Purchased on 3/6/19 installed the same day and had nothing but problems with it restarting and recognizing my monitor. Spent 5 hours with Dell Support who could not solve the problem. They suggested a full recovery. Spent another 1.5 hours trying to do the recovery. Unit would not perform the recovery and would not boot up. Returning to BestBuy on 3/7/19. Will purchase a different brand
