Customers are pleased with the XPS 16's impressive battery life and excellent graphics card performance, frequently praising the quality of the speakers and ample storage provided by the SSD. However, some users found the keyboard uncomfortable and the laptop somewhat heavy. The lack of a backlit keyboard was a common point of criticism.

    Stunning Premium Laptop

The minimal design and slim look are striking. The small bezels really maximize the viewable screen, giving you a really large screen in a portable form factor. At FHD+ (1920x1200) the resolution looks great and the matte screen is a great feature. The screen does not get as bright as I would like, though. The resolution and mediocre brightness lead to great battery life for a powerful laptop, though. It is a bit heavy, but not unexpectedly so. The Nvidia RTX 4050 GPU has been great for games. I had no problem playing casual games like Hades and Vampire Survivors. More demanding games also had no problem and high settings - Alan Wake, Bioshock, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the Witcher 3. All played a great frame rates. The touchpad design is really impressive. This is something I wasn’t sure of, but in daily use I don’t even notice the hidden design. The touchpad area is large (between both alt keys and the entire depth). It is in a natural place and you don’t even need to look down to use it. This is the best touchpad I’ve ever used on a Windows machine. Gestures, taps, and presses are all accurate. The speakers are incredible, the best I’ve used on any laptop. The camera is also really nice, with a higher resolution than most and the Windows Studio Effects are a nice addition - background blur, eye contact correction, and automatic framing. The top bezel of the screen is impossibly thin considering that it houses the camera and Windows Hello sensors. Windows Hello also works great. The microphones also work really well, negating the need for a headset in most cases. The removal of the function keys and lack of physical keys for delete and esc take some getting used to. The fingerprint reader integrated into the power button works well, but it comes at the expense of a normal key layout. The power button in the top right of the keyboard next to the backspace key is an odd choice, but after a few days I was used to it. Otherwise the keyboard is actually nice to use. The keys have no real gap between them, which I was worried about. I’ve always used island style keyboards, but had no problem. The key travel is very nice for a laptop and the keys are satisfying to press. There is a Windows CoPilot key, which is another odd choice - I don’t need a dedicated key for a function that is so rarely used. As an everyday laptop, it excels at the tasks I need it for. After work, it is a good gaming laptop. It is a great premium laptop for Windows - however the value is questionable. If you are concerned about the keyboard layout and lack of physical keys you should look at it in store first.

Can run a 3 Screen Virtual Pinball Cabinet!

First thing you immediately notice when unpacking the laptop - IT IS SO HEAVY! At almost 5 lbs, it's one of the heaviest laptops I've owned. My other laptop I constantly use is under 4lbs, so having this almost at 5, it's very noticeable - but that's okay - because I'm not using it to carry around! The 2nd thing you'll notice, no clearly marked power button OR trackpad borders. I will say that Dell did a decent design job with the power button - it is not flush with the keys, which means you won’t be accidentally pressing it and turning off the machine if it was. The power button also does double duty with also being the fingerprint scanner. The last and most annoying thing I noticed, the camera doesn't have a privacy cover. This is a dumb Dell stance and all laptops should come with a privacy cover, like most HPs. Years ago I bought a virtual pinball machine, which came with a very minimal specs small form factor desktop pc that fit inside of it. Over the years, I've had to replace the PC, but any non-SFF pc's aren't going to fit, and will have to be placed outside of the machine, which is very annoying and not great looking. I've tried a different Dell Gaming Laptop (prior to current PC) but it quickly overheated and froze often, so it was not a viable replacement. That brings us to this new Dell XPS 16, though not specifically sold as a "gaming" machine, it sure does have the specs and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 to call it one. With 3 USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) ports, a small dongle w/both a USB-A and HDMI connector is included with the laptop. My VPin has 3 different monitors, so the main display is connected through the HDMI on the little dongle, and I have a Dell Dock 3100 connected to the USB-A port, which gives me 2 more HDMI and DisplayPort connectors - for my 2nd and 3rd screens. And it works well! The previous Dell gaming machine did NOT handle the dock or 3rd monitor very well, which was unfortunate. I use both Steam and Epic to play both Pinball FX3(Steam) and Pinball FX (Epic) to run the games. The Dell is powerful enough to run the tables smoothly (again, unlike the previous Dell Gaming laptop) and the buttons (attached by USB) run without lag both physically and visually (in game). This makes me so happy, because now I can ditch the giant PC and leave the laptop INSIDE the machine, freeing up space around the pinball machine itself. So if you're looking for a really beefy PC to power your virtual pinball machine and do not want to put a large PC inside of it, the Dell XPS 16 more than qualifies and essentially future proof's your VPin for 5-10 years. Pros: Power Button/Fingerprint scanner not flush with the rest of the keys, I'm not accidentally pressing it! NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050!!! Runs games very smoothly Includes small dongle with HDMI and USB-A connector Authentically full power workstation that is portable Cons: No webcam privacy cover heavy No real Function keys (so if you use those for shortcuts, I don’t know how that works!) The top keys are lit touch keys (like Apple? but dumber) Runs hot Keyboard is backlit, but it's just on and off (HP/Microsoft laptops have 3 different brightness levels, which should be standard) A couple of times that screen shutoff (as if to go to screensaver/idle) while I was actively using it. Not sure what that is about yet

    Another great Dell Laptop

First off, the design is really nice. The Platinum color gives it a sleek and modern look, and the slim bezels around the 16.3-inch FHD+ display make everything pop. Plus, the keyboard is super comfortable to type on, which is important for someone like me who spends a lot of time typing. In terms of performance, this laptop can do it all. The Intel Core Ultra 7 processor paired with 16GB of memory means I can breeze through tasks without any lag or slowdown. Whether I'm editing photos, streaming videos, or browsing the web, everything is smooth and responsive. When it comes to gaming, with the RTX 4050 Graphics card, this laptop handles even the most demanding games with ease. The visuals are stunning, and the gameplay is super smooth. It's like having a high-end gaming rig in a portable package. And speaking of portability, this laptop is surprisingly light and slim considering its power. I can easily take it with me wherever I go, whether I'm working from a coffee shop or traveling for business. Battery life has also been impressive. Even with all the power under the hood, I can get through a full day of work without needing to recharge. It's a lifesaver when I'm on the move and don't have access to an outlet. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The Dell XPS 16 has exceeded all my expectations in terms of design, performance, and portability. If you're in the market for a high-end laptop that can handle anything you throw at it, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

    Dell Fan

I've always been a Dell fan from way back when but this laptop disappointed me a little bit. Visuals are at the level one would expect from a Dell laptop but the audio is less than desired, although able to go pretty loud for a laptop, when turned up high they easily get distorted and just sound cheap all around. And maybe it is just me, but I like the resistance of real keys to type on, example: the escape key and delete key are now just touchscreen buttons behind glass with now feedback feel to them. The mousepad has some feedback but not these new touchscreen keys. Running much cooler than past Dell laptops I've owned is good but the longer average battery life is much better, heavy use gets me 10 to 12 hours! Its plenty powerful for gaming and the work tasks I performed on it so I would imagine the same for school work as well. The provided ports are excellent and I have an external mouse connected. I moved a lot of photographs and music onto this laptop very easily and quickly. And over all it runs and operates pretty quietly, including the key board. For the money I would definitely recommend this laptop computer to a friend and or family member but would be even more supportive if Dell would invest in high grade sounding speakers, not just loud speakers.

Dell – XPS 16 16.3” FHD+ Laptop – Intel Core Ultra 7 – Intel Evo Edition - 16GB Memory – RTX 4050 Graphics – Platinum The Dell XPS9640 is a sleek looking laptop with plenty of power. It comes with a 130-watt power adapter that charges the laptop via a USB-C port. The USB-C ports, 3 total, all have power feed through. As normal now the USB-C ports are also Thunderbolt-4. It comes with an adapter to allow a full size USB-A and HDMI port, however this adapter does not store on the laptop, you must carry it with you if you want to use it. The unit has all the Windows 11 bugs during setup and initial use. This is not the laptops fault. The hardware is solid except for the laptop keyboard/track pad. The keyboard is 105% in size with completely flat keys and zero space between them. There are 2 speakers on the side of the keyboard that take up a lot of space. If the keyboard were regular size, and the speakers were placed in another spot, there would be enough room for a number pad. The keyboard is backlit, but at a level that is very low and has faded areas showing signs that the backlight is not very well designed. The key caps are the same color as the top case and when the backlight is off the letters are just a darker color. They do not stand out very well. The backlight does not come on when you power the laptop up, you must turn them on every time. The power button/finger print reader are not marked at all. This will not be an issue for the owner of the laptop but will cause others to not understand how to turn it on. Maybe that was a security feature. The laptop turns on when the screen is opened, a touch of the finger print reader or face recognition work very well to log in to Windows. With the laptop fully charged and powered down the battery level drops to 93% within a few days of being off, something is using power when off. The track pad has no markings, finding the track pad area is sometimes hit or miss, the track pad buttons are also hard to find because of this. There is no touch feel to the track pad at all. Benchmarks show this laptop has plenty of power, the CPU, GPU, and SSD all do really well. I’m not quoting specs because you will be looking at them when deciding if this laptop is for you. The function and aux keys (not really keys) are touch type keys that light up once the laptop is powered on, until then they are not shown at all. Fan noise while bench-marking was very minimal and well within acceptable levels. Because of the odd and limited keyboard, I would not consider this laptop for gaming unless you have external accessories attached via USB-C. Although Dell XPS should be a higher end machine, I feel they made some design decisions that limit the usefulness of this laptop. With everything available, the move of the USB-A and HDMI ports to an adapter shows they had something else in mind, not gaming. If they had meant for this to be a gaming machine, and the specs show it should be, the ports on the machine would not be so limited. In my mind you could find a more useful laptop at a lower price point. Sorry, this is my opinion, find one in the store and look at it for yourself. This design may very well be what you are looking for. Just not for me.

I bought this laptop over the summer for an engineering major in college and I'm barely into the major and im having problems. It was not through bestbuy but i figured more people would see this on here. I have had a lot of trouble with audio output with just watching youtube and stuff. It will not let me change the volume when my airpods are connected or it wont play audio through my airpods even though they are connected and the default audio output source. There was another time the normal speaker audio just was permenantly stuck at zero and it wouldnt let me change it. I don't know how i did it but i eventually fixed that but the computer as a whole has been a huge letdown. The computer really isnt even that fast and the trackpad is awful. There is no right click button and there is no fixed spot where the trackpad begins and ends and if you scroll on one side maybe too far to the left or right it will just tweak its weird. If you are also running more than 3 apps at once even if they dont take up too much ram it will slow down significantly. The battery life is also terrible. i have it running for like 2 classes straight which is around 2 and a half hours total and it will nearly die if not die on me through the second class. The one great thing about this that i loved was the graphics are incredible i will give it that. I had very high expectations with reading reviews and with the capabilities of this thing and i was sorely let down. I personally would not recommend this to anybody else.
