I've had this model (4th generation Core i7/8GB RAM/SSD) for about a month and it's very fast and versatile. It's a high end desktop when I need it and it's a giant, lightweight tablet for casual use. The fold-out feet allow use at optimal desktop and tablet angles. The desktop stand makes the machine look like a regular all-in-one, and the wireless keyboard and mouse work great every time. The XPS 18 takes full advantage of Windows 8.1, and the OS is a joy to use on this machine. The screen looks great and I'm getting better battery life than I'd expected (similar to my 10 inch tablet)
I would recommend this to a friend

Only had this product for several days but I am very happy with the purchase...best buy was the only place I could find the XPS 18 with an SSD hard drive (there is no noise and not much heat coming from the machine). Seems to handle everything I need it to do...mostly amateur photography and surfing.
The 18" screen size is perfect for me...no eye strain like I get with the iPad. It is a little large for laying on the couch/bed surfing. Also the size and weight make it feel a little more fragile (I keep my kids away from this thing while they run the house with our iPads).
I was worried about windows 8 but it really works well with the user interfaces on this machine.
I do suggest to purchase the adjustable stand with built in charger (the model I purchased came with the stand even though I couldn't find it listed on the website).
