Great Receiver - Poor Update Procedure

I have been wanting to purchase a Denon AVR-X model receiver for a year or more. At first I was going to purchase the larger 4000 or 6000 series, but when we finally purchased our new home and the family room size wasn't quite as large as I thought, I went down in size to the 3000 series and purchased the AVR-X3300W, and so far I am very very happy with the sound quality and most of the features of the Denon receiver. I have not been very successful in using the AirPlay feature to stream music directly to the receiver via my Apple iOS device, but this isn't a deal killer because I own an AppleTV and have had better luck using that to stream from my Apple devices.
A definite negative is the software update process for the receiver. DO NOT, ever, try to update this device while it's connected to wifi. It must be connected directly to your network via an ethernet cable to complete the update process correctly. I even went so far as to connect the receiver directly to my cable modem, bypassing my home router, because I was in the dreaded "Update Error, retrying" loop for more than 30 minutes. Right as I was about to give up and had resigned myself to contact BestBuy the next day to have it replaced, the receiver finally completed the process and started playing audio again.
So, all in all, a great sounding receiver, with a God-awful software update process. If you buy this receiver, and you'll be glad you did, just be patient, plug the thing directly into your internet connection via an ethernet cable, and enjoy the big sound!

Great sound, easy setup

This unit has a great sound and easy setup. The remote should be backlit for a $1K system. Also, the ARC functionality was hit or miss. I eventually had to buy an optical cable to go from my TV to the receiver, but it was cheap and an easy fix. Overall, the sound is what counts and it's really good. Much better than my 10 year old Yamaha RX-V2700.

After trying Onkyo and Sony I was able to get everything I wanted with the Denon AVR-X3300W. Very easy to set-up and tune, the remote app for android is simple to operate ( which I didn't have with the Sony). The sound quality and power are driving me to expand from a 5.2 system to 7.2, I want everything this unit will deliver. I have had nothing but Sony for 30 years, so switching was not an easy choice but so far it was a good one.

Changing from a B&K reference 30. The sound is identical and the price is right. My reference was $2400.00 new. The only thing is the directions could be better. My hobby is hi fi and the B&K was simple to hook up and use. With the Denon I feel like a dummy trying to figure out the simplest things. That is my only complaint. If they would get that right it would be a outstanding piece of equipment. Jury out though with power, I was using a Accuphase power amp rated at 150 watts per channel. Will see how it does with my hi def music.

A true power-house! Upgraded after 20 years only due to tech advancement. This receiver has many hdmi inputs along with digital coax and opti inputs. Inputs can easily be assigned via the setup and the multiple options on sound quality set this receiver apart from many. The wireless software updates are simplistic and keep this masterful genius always updated which will provide me a great return on my investment. Bluetooth pairing is extremely convenient and takes listen to music to new dimensions. A must have!

This is my first Denon reciever and in the past I remember that they had a reputation for being hard to set up. When I opened the box I could not find the expected thick manual but there was a quick start guide. I followed that and once I got the basic connections hooked up to the TV, the on screen menus walked me through all the speaker connections and automated level settings - very easy! I installed the Denon control app on my iPad and I can control the whole receiver from my iPad as well as play my iTunes library of music through the receiver. This is also where you can see the whole in-depth manual. The only problem i had is I have rear surround speakers and the setup will not allow you to set up rear surrounds without having side surrounds connected first. I ended up connecting the rear leads to the side surround terminals on the receiver. I'm now looking to replace at least the rears with Dolby Atmos speakers with top firing drivers since I don't want to put ceiling speakers in. Overall, I have a lot more controllability with this receiver vs my old Onkyo plus it can handle all the 4K switching that my old receiver couldn't. I also got a very good deal from Best Buy on this receiver so I'm quite happy with it.

Denon - 1505W - The "W" must be for "WOW"

Config: We are using the Denon 1505W with six 150W in-ceiling speakers in a single-zone mode, and a powered sub-woffer. The Denon is connected to a PC, Blue Ray, and Sirius Radio.
Futures: We will likely be adding more speakers in a second zone. Because there are so many possibilities for configuring speakers/TV/other devices, I haven't yet incorporated our existing TV surround sound system because I still haven't decided which config I will go with.
Setup: I never downloaded the product manual as the setup procedure, when connected to the TV, is self-explanitory.
Features: It is great having Pandora et al designed in. I already had multiple Sirius docking stations so I didn't need the already designed in Sirius application (which is $4/month more from Sirius for a second device). The tuners, both FM and AM work very well with the provided antennae. However, the already programmed in Internet radio stations are so numerous that one might not need the tuner. Audio quality is very good. The numerous additional I/O ports (HDMI, RCA, etc.) while barely used now, will likely come in handy soon.
Ease of use: Without the remote and/or the TV display, it will be more difficult to use until we memorize the sequences on the remote or the unit's controls. Such a change probably won't happen as using the remote with the TV display is just way too convenient.
Problems: As with all Smart devices I have seen, there can be delays from the Denon in responding to the remote control. When this happens, for those of you with an impatient "significant other", warn them not to keep pressing random buttons on the remote as the unit will lock up. Also, after about a week of use, some functionality ceased, but was "fixed" with a reboot (just like a computer!).

Solid Performer

This is my 2nd Denon receiver. Previously owned a 2307ci, which was a great receiver, but had a very crude, cumbersome GUI, output via 480i, and only 2 HDMI inputs.
The 3300 is a great receiver, but the amp is not quite as beefy as was the 2307's. However, I demo'ed 2 different Yamahas and an Onkyo before settling on this Denon.
Audyssey setup was relatively easy and quick, but some channel levels required tweaking. For me, I found that I liked the sound better with the dynamic EQ turned off, and the dynamic volume set to "medium ". Experiment to see what works for you. This receiver does a great job with the dialog and makes it seem as if it's coming from the center of the screen vs below it......my center channel speaker is below the screen. Love the feature that let's me access Pandora with a couple of button pushes. A competing brand, Sony, requires you to stream from your smartphone. ......NOT !!!!
All in all a good performer. Having said all that, I think all of the brands have started to focus on "features" vs "audio" performance, compared to the line of receivers that were on the market 7-8 years ago. That's not necessarily a bad thing.....just different. But I go way back in this hobby, with my first dolby pro logic receiver purchased sometime in the early 80's.
Lastly, thanks to Best Buy and Magnolia for the great demo rooms and for your price match policy.

This is a very versatile AV receiver, and it has the newest HDMI and 4K capability. Surround decoding is excellent. Unlike my previous Yamaha which had an incomprehensible interface, this unit has clear instructions and is easy to set up and use.

Reasonable price for the Denon 1505 attracted me. Listened at the store and was impressed. Even more so now that it is installed in my home. Powering sound in three rooms and on my patio using multiple room settings.

I was in the market for a new Denon that could do 4K and 3d, and not only can this do both, it can do more. It is a great A/V unit and worth the buy.

This receiver has ample HDMI ports that are up to date and complaint with the new standards. It has great sound and is up to date with all of the current audio and video standards of today except Dolby Vision. Supposedly there will be an update at the end of 2017 / early 2018 that will enable this receiver to pass Dolby Vision.

I have used Yamaha for the last 12 years or so and this was my first Denon. 8 HDMI inputs is enough for me and the Audyssey MultEQ XT32 set-up was well worth the time. Sounds fantastic on movies. Fully 4K compatible. This should keep me going for the next 10 years.
