Great receiver with HEOS

I bought this receiver over a year ago and have been using the HEOS App with 9 wired speakers in 3 zones inside my house for the past year. I added the HEOS 1 so I could have a mobile speaker and also so I could add the battery pack and take it to the beach. So far I have had two trips outside the house with the speaker and the sound is great and battery life for the rechargeable battery is great also. All my friends use Sonus but if you have wired speakers and also want wireless I think HEOS is the way to go. The app was buggy at first but they seem to have worked out the kinks and works great with Spotify.

This is now my third Denon receiver I have purchased over many years and this one is the quality I expect from Denon. You can even connect it to your Google Assistant.
The user interface has a dated look and the app as well but the functions on the receiver are amazing along with the power to make my speakers move.

Pros: Although it powers 9 channels it can decode 11 channels with an external amplifier. I have it with Dolby Atmos 7.2.4 configuration with an external amp, and with its auto calibration system, it makes it sound so balanced. Remote and receiver buttons are nicely laid out and the finish on the receivers face is top notch. Passes through 4k content just fine and apps work without issues (connected via Ethernet).
Cons: The receiver runs super hot so be sure there is enough ventilation. The bluetooth range is garbage even with the two antennas attached to the receiver. The settings are complicated compared to Pioneers, but if you have a TV, the on-TV guide makes it a bit easier. They cheaped out on the volume knob. On my older Denon, the volume knob was weighted, made out of metal, and had a good mechanical feel to it. The knob on this one feels cheap, plastic, and very stiff, i'm not a fan.
Overall, for the price it has all the features you could ask for with just a few tiny annoyances.

Had a Yahama receiver before this. Chose this to future proof. The Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro is all great. Have it setup in a 5.1.4 setup with upfiring speakers.

This receiver seems to be of good quality, and runs a rather complicated system very well. We bought this on the recommendation of our in home consultant based on what we needed a system to do and the fact that it supported HEOS.

Denon is know for their sound and the Denon 4400X is warm and full when playing music. Classical and Punk both sound great. Using the multiple zones though is much more difficult to do then in earlier versions of the AVR. The manual leaves a lot to be desired and you will spend a long time on hold if you call support. I do recommend it for the sound and if you use only one zone it will rattle your living room.

I had no problems with my first Denon AVR 5805 but needed to upgrade to a 4K Denon AVR upon purchasing a LG OLED 4K TV. I jumped on this when it went on sale. It is 10x easier to install and use than my first Denon I bought in 2005 and am still using for my other system setup. I expect the same great no - problem operation and great 9.2 sound.

The Denon AVR 9.2-Ch. Hi-Res 4K Ultra HD A/V Home Theater Receiver is an absolute joy at a premium price. Plenty of bells and whistles, future firmware upgrades keeps this product relevant and outstanding sound makes it worth the pricey upgrade.
Having spent the past few years suffering through the end of product cycle with the Pioneer SC-85 receiver, the foundation piece for my home theater needed an upgrade for HDCP 2.2 and 4k passthrough for my JVC 550 4k projector.
My home setup is using the Definitive 8060 Tower (with Atmos) and set up for a 7.2.2 system.
While the superior Marantz 7012 was debated for purchase, ultimately, it was the extra $600 retail savings with the Denon 4400 that made the difference.
First impression is incredible with the Denon 4400. Setup was easy, auto-calibration highly accurate and firmware and software updates effortless.
Sound reproduced is amazing and noticeably more fleshed out with the Denon compared to my old Pioneed SC-85. Mid-tones and sub-woofer bass seems stronger and richer and the passthrough from the projector and blu-ray is lag-free.
Overall I would recommend this for an enthusiast looking to save a few extra dollars on a 9.2 system

This Denon receiver was the perfect addition to upgrade my home theatre to the next level. With 4K pass thru and Dolby Atmos it truly sounds amazing. I have a 9.2 system setup with ceiling mounted Atmos speakers. The power in this receiver makes the sound come alive.

A definite upgrade from an Onkyo

I had my Onkyo 7.1 1080p for 8yrs and I decided it was time to upgrade since I had jumped into the 4K world about a year ago and was tired of using multiple tv inputs and such. This receiver has so many features I have only touched the surface. I have a full 7.1 setup and this made it sound better than the Onkyo did. I am in the middle up adding more speakers to make it a full 9.2 (or 7.2.2) setup and I am excited. My only complaints are that some of the HDMI control signals confuse the receiver and change to the input when it isn’t what you want. It seems you have to customize it a lot to get it how you want it. Overall it is an amazing system and I am glad I got a price match to make it more cost effective :)

I replaced a dying Onkyo NR807 7.2 Reciever with this unit after an in-home consultation with the Magnolia group to update and possibly automate my home. She recommended this unit as a way to use their HEOS app vs BT or a wired input or to use it in conjunction with a universal remote, Sonos and Alexa as I have a Prime account and use Insteon Automation for a couple items. I wanted 5.1 surround in my family room and have a pair of speakers on my patio and another pair in the backyard courtyard. i decided to Opt out of all the Auomation but did buy the Denon and upgraded my WiFi with Eeros per her recommendation. The HEOS App is setup with all 3 zones and works great with Pandora and Amazon Prime so now I can keep my phone on me outside, raise/lower the volume, select which zones I want on/off and can make some (limited) adjustments to the EQ . I'm totally happy with this purchase but would deduct a half start for some interface quirkiness in setting up the system... When I want to just listen to music in the family room (5.1 setup) and use just stereo and the Sub (so 2.1), the Onkyo sounded better and was easier to setup the sub power/output vs the Denon. It may just be me getting used to a different system and interface but it shouldn't get this complicated to have good audio with my Klipsch RF-7 ii speakers. I gave back the half-star as the Magnolia service I got from Kelly was top notch. She really knew her stuff and the Eeros Wifi is soo much better than my older Apple Airport Extreme system.

Big upgrade from my previouse Denon model and Onkyo. Lots of options and enough power for a 7.2.2 set up but will probably have to upgrade to 11.2.2 model for the FULL atmos system setup.
