At one point in time I had both an Xbox as well as a PS3. For a variety of reasons, I stopped being an Xbox player (no hatred, just preference...). But I **did** begin to miss a few Microsoft exclusive games, notably the original Halo.
With 'Destiny', I can in a sense get the best of both worlds, and have had a great time playing. Not 'finished' yet, but so far it has brought back the old 'Halo' feeling, if that makes any sense.

Destiny is a great game. It will however not please everyone. If you're into story driven fps games, Destiny may wear out its welcome quickly. It however does something very cool. It combines really awesome elements from the likes of WoW and Guikd Wars with a bit of Halo styled gameplay to create an unique game with lots of loot and grinding elements.

I liked the Alpha, noticed improvement in the Beta. Final release barely lasted 2 weeks before it was very bland. SP only allows 3 man team that's fun but rather easy if all are upgrading evenly. MP became pretty dull with not really a lot of variation.
Like all FPS, hop in and play around is fun but for me after 3 weeks I just clowned around.
Good thing is easy to meet new people either at the main station or in events/missions.
Hopeful that DLC makes it interesting again.

Yes most reviews are right about the story being bad. If your looking for a single player game this is not it. This game is fun but you need to play with friends in order to really enjoy this game.

Destiny Ups the Ante and Wins

Here are some of my observations of positive aspects as mentioned above:
The gameplay is smooth between all actions. A primary first person shooter with a third person in the Tower City and vehicles, you are able to dial in your preferred playing style. Special abilities for each Guardian class, of which there are three, allow you to really change your play style. As a Warlock I was equally comfortable using a Sniper Rifle and charging with a Shotgun. The ability to upgrade weapons and customize class abilities really enhances this style of play.
The visuals are impressive in a few key ways. The texturing is very realistic looking at moderate distance and only become visibly rendered up close, specifically things like texture on brick or concrete. The lighting is fantastic, especially in tandem with weather. There is a layer of fog that sits just outside of the Tower that will change naturally over time changing the view of the surrounding landscape. Even more impressive is the sunrise; the cloud cover will change how much light is displayed. Shafts of lights, known as sunshafts, are prevalent both in Tower and in Old Russia. The waterfalls in Old Russia create rainbows when viewed from the proper angle. Combat visuals highlight with weapon effects and class abilities. See the screen capture I took that shows 3rd person view.
The story is exciting as you learn about the past and how it has shaped the current conflict in Destiny. The story primarily follows you on your characters story arc while integrating aspects of the city where you recharge, Tower.
The music is the first thing that you hear upon launching the game and all the updates installing. It is of the same feeling you get if you ever played an epic game where the music set the stage for very high expectations and excitement. The game, even in beta, delivers on these expectations.
The community is large, with just under 900,000 players participating in the beta. This should translate well for launch. There should be plenty of people available for matchmaking unless you grind levels too quickly.
The multiplayer aspect of the game is interesting. A combination of many successful elements from first person shooters is mixed with some MMO-style mechanics which offers some fun gameplay. The world events are fun though if some are designed to be done by at least two players. The world events on the moon I found to be very difficult but manageable for those with a grasp on mechanics. Strikes are the 3-man teams which can be queued for directly in-game by selecting it. It will pair you with other players and you must take out progressive waves of enemies until you take on a boss or two. The waves can be easily destroyed by skilled solo players but often the carelessness of players in these strikes makes having 3 beneficial. You can be revived in moments by your teammates so the frustration curve is not horrible if you die.
The mobile app is a great feature that really increases the excitement with the game. You can check your character, see what is in your inventory and browse many other features. It is a nice way to see where you are at and plan out what you would like to do if your time to play is limited. It is easy to give a couple minutes to check your current state while not being at your console. See the captures of the app.
Here are some of my observations of negative aspects as mentioned above:
The load times that are experience are not horrible, but they are noticeable. I would estimate that 5% of my gameplay was load time. Obviously load times will be less of an issue of you are exploring, for example the exploration in Old Russia. However, if you run strikes and Crucibles frequently, you will have some load time at the start and end. Then if you rejoin it is additional time. This is unavoidable and is really just something that gives you time to be productive in something else for a minute or two.
The game can feel “grindy" at times. What this means is that you must continually do the same actions over and over again to obtain the resources that you need to obtain more desirable items. This is especially true if you are trying to get a bunch of glimmer for example which is a primary currency. You can mitigate some of this by using items that you find to increase the collection rate. That being said, the Crucibles already seem grindy especially if you are not playing with friends and just randomly join.
The crucible player skill seems to vary greatly. There are some very skilled players mixed with average and novices. There is also the occasional AFK player that frustrates all. As the game matures there will likely be a solid matchmaking system that pairs you with similar skill players. Otherwise, you get beaten fairly easily or beat the other team easily.
Overall Destiny upped the ante with features and gameplay and it works, and Destiny wins. I recommend this to anyone who wants a good story with reasonable multiplayer aspects. Not to mention it is a fun shooter at its core.
September 9, 2014 is release date with a very likely saturated weekend on September 13, 2014. I hope to see you all in game.

Destiny is undoubtedly a beautiful game, especially on next Gen systems. the game play and shooting mechanic is reminiscent of Halo (so if you're a fan of Halo you'll most likely enjoy this game). The story is a bit vague at times, most likely to justify selling you new content via DLC. The music is amazing (why don't they offer the soundtrack). After completing the main storyline, the game becomes a bit of grind to get better weapons and armor in order to access and succeed in higher end game content. As with most MMOs (although this isn't officially an MMO) raids require groups of 6 players to ente, but you can participate in smaller raids (strikes) with groups of 3. So get some friends and give this game a go.

The game plays really well, it's smooth and they are constantly updating the interface to make gameplay more friendly. The only complaint I have is it is a dlc driven game, but bungie is a bit slow in getting that doc out. They try to keep players interested with the hunt for gear and different events in the crucible, destiny's matchmaking, but at least for me it was not enough. I've logged well over 150 hrs into the game, but had to put it down and only pick it back up now to get ready to play expansion two. Still a really fun game to play. Some of the weapons you obtain are so satisfying to use.

While this game doesn't have everything that people hoped for, it was mostly because it got over-hyped as being the next big Bungie game. People who go into this with certain expectations might be disappointed, but keep an open mind and really explore what the game is setting you up to do. While there is some grinding involved to level up, this isn't a new thing for games with MMO mechanics. One of the most fun things I have ever done in a video game is raiding in Destiny. They have worked so hard on the mechanics and it shows in the feeling of accomplishment when you finally get through a raid. Some people complain about the story, but there is so much lore in this game that get's overlooked. You just have to read the Grimoire cards and you'll get addicted. Loot drops are also really fun. I keep coming back week after week to try my luck at new weapons and armor. I would also highly recommend playing this games with a group of friends, and if you don't have one, make one. There are a lot of LFG resources for that so it's no excuse. The social aspect of this game is really what makes it gold. Bungie is listening to the community, constantly updating and balancing the game, so this is an always evolving game that has the potential of becoming a masterpiece.

Destiny is fun first person MMO mix that is easy to get into. The base content if fairly light but spending the time to get the best gear can be a long process. The raid and strikes are fun even after completing them multiple times. The story is weak but the gameplay makes up for it. I would recommend this game only if you have other friends who play as well.

I usually get tired of a game after a month or two, but I've had this game for over a year and I still play it regularly. I upgraded to the ps4 a few months ago and was able to pick up this copy with my best buy reward points for free. I can't say that the graphics are any better than the ps3 version, but they were great in the first place. It does load a lot quicker and I like the controls a lot better. The only reason I didn't give the game 5 stars is because you cannot play it without an internet connection. You need to be connected to play the solo campaign, not just multi-player. Also, if you do not subscribe to ps plus (for the ps4 version), you cannot play multi-player. But, I'm pretty sure that's how every game on the ps4 is. Lastly, the game's online community can be a little elitist. While it's only a minority of players (I imagine very young ones) that are like this, it can be discouraging for new players. There is a much larger part of the community, though, that is very welcoming and enjoys helping out less experienced players.

Another great game from the makers of Halo. Solid shooting mechanics, the controls feel very well polished as well. If I only had one gripe it would be that the story is a little lacking however I think the overall gameplay is amazing. Plus with the new House of Wolves DLC coming out I'm looking to exploring the new areas.

A fun game to play, but I am disappointed that for the price, you have to shell out another $20 every year or so to get another DLC package that is essentially part of the story. Again the gameplay is wonderful and so are the visuals. But for $60, I would have like to have a longer and more fulfilling storyline. I understand that this is a FPS, and story isn't the primary goal, but it feels incomplete. Online gameplay and multiplayer is phenomenal, and the Co-Op is a lot of fun with a friend.

Destiny is the perfect example of why a gamer needs to be very careful before pre-ordering. I, like many others, was part of a midnight release at my nearest Best Buy, ready to experience a solar system full of areas to explore, secrets to uncover, and battles to fight. In short, I was expecting an immersive experience that would last months. It is what Destiny seemed to be based on all of the previews and Bungie media.
This is not the reality. After several days playing this game, I have discovered that while Destiny is a great shooter with very solid visuals and great mechnics, what you actually have are fairly linear and basic missions, little reason for exploration, and a story that does little to immerse you into a new world. It feels somewhat hollow to me. And while I gave this game a good rating because, if you separate out all of the build-up, it is a good experience overall, I feel like it is night and day from what I expected. My hope is that with the attention Bungie has placed on this franchise, we will have continual content that will create the world that I imagined Destiny would be.

Destiny - great fun playing single or multiplayer

Destiny has been hailed as a revolutionary game, due to the various game modes and replayability. The single-player campaign is fairly in-depth, and you have the ability to play with friends on deepening difficulty levels. Bounties bring you back time and time again to the same missions, but it doesn't feel repetitive because you are trying to accomplish specific goals within that mission - kill a certain NPC or kill a defined number of enemies. Weekly and daily heroics, and nightfalls, force you and your friends to battle against tougher enemies. Multiplayer, or "the Crucible", is equally enjoyable. Team up with friends across various typical game modes, eg zone capture, team deathmatch, or small team games. Bounties exist here too, targeting your efforts against certain player classes, or forcing you to get grenade kills. Monthly events, such as the Iron Banner, add an extra edge to multiplayer. If playing against normal people like me in the Crucible proves too easy for you, Destiny provides the "Temple of Osiris". Victory in the Temple unlocks great rewards, but you better bring a cohesive fireteam, as you'll be playing the best of the best. All around great game! Continued content releases might ask you to fork over more money, but Destiny's playability is well worth it. You'll spend countless hours trying to level up your Guardian, and then likely make a second and third one and do the same.

I don't consider myself a gamer to the max, but I do play many of games and particularly when they are fps style. I would say this game is a good combination of leveling up and fun. Great graphics, decent AI, love the PvP in the game. There are many downsides, like any game, one of which is the super short story line. Can be beat in 4 hours tops of dedication to strict story mode. Spent the rest of my game time to leveling up and now the endless quests for exotics.

Halo and Borderlands have a baby, they name it Destiny. Coming into this game i knew that i would like this game because of one name... Bungie. Now being the most expensive game ever made, $500 million, this game SHOULD have been better. Don't get me wrong, this game is my new crack and i love playing it, leveling up my character, getting new guns and armor, etc. However, with a company making an iconic game like Halo, they should have have the same writing elements. The story is pretty bland. There's not really any need to focus on the story except for leveling up. Where Bungie doesn't do so well as far as the story, of the game, they make up for great MP. Crucible is exactly how i remember Halo MP, just with new twists. If you are a fan of games like Halo, Borderlands, World of Warcraft, FPS games, you should give this a try.

I have already logged about 30 hours of time into Destiny, and I've loved every second of it. The downside of the game is that you get the most out of it with playing with others, so if you enjoy single player experiences, with a deep story, I would pass on this. The gameplay itself is very fast-paced, constantly keeping you on your toes. Bungee has also been releasing new content post-launch.

Honestly I had a blast playing this game at first, which was surprising to me. I only begrudgingly bought the game at the behest of my friends who all owned it, and wanted to play with me. I'm not huge on multiplayer games, and especially not loot grind games, but I picked it up and gave it a shot.
What I found was that I really enjoyed the experience for the first few days. I had a lot of fun playing around, finding things within the environment, and just hanging out with my friends. But then as I got higher up in levels all it seemed that there was left to do was grind through countless Strikes in order to progress, and the same friends that convinced me to get into the game were starting to get less involved themselves.
So I was stuck playing countless multiplayer missions with people I didn't know, and often enough those people would just drop off without warning, leaving the remaining party with a rough road ahead of them.
The game was a great deal of fun at first, but all too quickly it began to feel like work. But, gear grind games like this really aren't for me, so the fact that it drew me in as much as it did speaks volumes.
