I was introduced to this game on the Vita with 3. I really liked it so I picked this up because I've never played the original. Its a lot like 3 and I really like it. It puts me in the mind of Final Fantasy Tactics a little bit. I think its more chaotic though. There are so many layers to this game. It can be somewhat overwhelming. If you don't mind a story driven by the wants of demons, then this will provide hours of entertainment.

My first exposure to Disgea was Disgea 5 complete on Switch which is also great(I rate it higher). I'm no Disgea expert and I've barely leveled my characters in 5, but I liked it so much that when I heard they were releasing Disgea 1 I knew it was a day one purchase for me. Now playing 1 a bit I have to say that it is great fun but I do miss some of the game play improvements made in 5. I was hoping for a remake using the 5 engine with the newer updated graphics and quality of life improvements. It is not that. From what I can tell and read about it is mostly just a graphics update. Don't get me wrong I still recommend it but I suggest if you are new to Disgea, play it first before 5 as it feels clunkier in its systems. For those new to the game it is a Tactical RPG where you control a group of units that fight turn based on a grid system. It allows crazy unit levels and progression with very deep systems that you don't actually really have to figure out if you don 't want to. It even has a character that flat out tells you you don't have to know the systems to beat the game. The almost infinite leveling and fun storyline and characters make for a good time.

This is a fun strategy RPG. The gameplay is great, but the graphics feel dated. This was originally a PS2 game, and not much has changed. On the Nintendo Switch, this still looks (and feels, in terms of controls and movement) pretty dated, compared to newer releases. If you're into strategy games, this is a lot of fun, and has a lot more depth than similar strategy games like Mario + Rabbids, but falls way behind in accessibility and graphics.

My favorite tactics game of all time. This is the best version and it still holds up as a classic with flawless gameplay and an amazing story. If you like tactics games, this is a must have, trust me!

My first Disgea game was actually Disgea 2 on the PS2 years and years ago, and part of the reason I invested in a Nintendo Switch was because I saw all of the Disgea titles were available there. If you're already familiar with the game series, BUY THIS. If you're not familiar with the series, BUY THIS. Though I know other games have similar play styles, I feel that nothing really compares to the experience you get with Disgea. For someone that has played before, the graphics are better in the Switch remake and I love how smooth the game is. Great characters, and if you like grinding away at a game for hours and hours, this is for you. The possibilities are virtually endless.

The leap backwards from ‘5’ to ‘1’ implies a significant downgrade and should temper your expectations to an extent; be under no illusions, this is very much the original PS2 game in widescreen with high-def art and extra content from earlier ports (it previously appeared on Sony PSP and Nintendo DS, plus a PC version released in 2016). In many ways, a fresh lick of paint is all that’s needed – the base game remains a winner and its idiosyncratic spirit still feels fresh.

Its a classic, This is a series that made a big impact in niche demographics back in the day and now its available on the nintendo switch. Its worth playing at least once but Disgaea 5 streamlined everything to the point where the original feels far too grindy. I would recommend playing this and 4 before playing 5 because once you experience the conveniences of the later iterations going back to this version is going to feel painful. Still a great game with a fun personality though.

Fans of Disgaea will know you will get many hours of enjoyment and this one is no different. Mechanics are similar to Disgaea 5 but alot of the polished offerings in 5 are lacking with this one. Graphics have been cleaned up and improved and is a great title to add to your switch collection. If you're a fan of JRPG's, this game is a must have for any collector.

Excellent strategy RPG and this remake is the best version of it.

They really did a great job on the graphics, but that's all they touched. No real quality of life improvements.

What's not to love about the Disgaea series. This is probably the fourth or fifth time I've purchased this game for different consoles and pc with zerp regrets! If you love irreverent humor and turn based tactics games, this series is for you!

Great place to start for beginners of the Disgaea series, or other tactical RPG games. Many memorable characters and a good story to come with. Although it doesn’t have the refinements of later entries, it’s still a good game to play and that should not hold it back.

I hadn't played the original Disgaea since it game out on PS2 in 2002 or so! Graphically this looks SOOOO much better and is the definitive way to play some very funny SRPG gaming at home or on the go.

I loved Disgaea on the PS2. But honestly, it really lends itself to a portable system - so getting it for the Switch is a natural fit. The game looks, sounds, and plays beautifully. Super happy with this one!

I played this game originally when it came out on ps2 and loved it! So when I saw that it was out on switch I had to get it. If you’re a fan of tactical RPGs its a must have.

This is easily the best way to play the original Disgaea and the Switch version is near identical to the PS4 version in looks and performance. I can't recommend this game more.

I had this game on the PS2 when it came out about 15 years ago and the new switch port is a nice visual upgrade. It plays exactly the same as the PS2 version and even has Etna mode.
