This gimbal is extremely well built and the battery life is just as promised (12 hours). Although, I haven't had a chance to completely deplete the battery, it has definitely carried me through multiple recording sessions with only a small drain on the power. The grip which is the battery has a strong sturdy feel with a rubber coating for extra grasp. Combined with the lower stand to give you ultimate control of the stabilizer.
The joy stick is solid just like what is expected from DJI drone products. It gives you full control of the gimbal movement and is sensitive to the pressure applied to it as you would expect (a slight push moves the gimbal slowly in that direction). Set up is also relatively easy once you understand the balance adjustments based on the size and weight combination of your camera and lenses. Took me about 15 minutes to balance it out the first time, but now I can do it in a few minutes. Especially when I have to change camera accessories which throughs the balance off. You will get fast at it.
Flashlight mode is an awesome feature allowing you to rotate the camera around its Z axis giving you some very interesting shots. Couple that with the free Ronin app (Apple and Android) on your phone or tablet and you have a lot more control over the parameters of the motors and axes, and displaying the balance and power distributions stats on your phone will give you a better idea of how to adjust each axis accordingly. Granted, you do not need the app to balance or change some of the settings, but it definitely makes it much easier process.
All in all, I don't have any gripes as of yet with this fine piece of equipment. It has impressed me and most importantly, has giving me buttery smooth footage bringing it much closer to the professional quality I seek. I purchased the essentials kit because the price was better and I really don't need the rack focus knob on the side. I still prefer to use the autofocus on my camera or just adjust the lens focus ring. The case if also very sturdy made of hardened foam and has a stiff latch to prevent it from opening.
If you are serious about stepping up the quality of your films, this is a must have accessory.

I purchased the Ronin S in order to take the quality of my footage up a notch. And that is precisely what this tool does. Its build quality is superb, and as far as ease of use goes, the Ronin S is a pleasure to work with. It takes roughly 8 or so minutes to set up prior to shooting. I am using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k mounted on the Smallrig BMPCC4K Full Cage. There are no complications with this product, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in commercial videography, travel videos, and wedding films.

I work in the film industry as an assistant camera so I am used to using the big boy gimbals like the DJI Ronin 2 or Movi Pro. But for my little hobby projects I shoot on an a7iii. This ronin s was able to fly my a7iii in a smallrig cage, with a canon 24-70mm, sigma mc-11 lens adapter, and a tilta nucleus nano no problem. I opted for the essentials kit because I didn’t want to pay for the cables and dji focus wheel when I womt bebhsing those.
The hard travel case is nice but doesnt leave any room to keep the sled at your settings so will have to compact it and rebalance anytime you want to put it away.

Needed a stabilizer for a recent video shoot for work. I'm good with taking still images, but it took me a second to get this set up. Awesome product and certainly a learning curve if you've never used one of these before. Overall it's a great addition to our kit!

I was looking for a way to take my DSLR camera video footage to the next level and I decided that one way to make that happen was to have more stable footage while I was moving and shooting. I decided to check out the reviews on all the latest Gimbals and after looking through everything that I could find I decided on this DJI Ronin S and I am glad that I did. However, having said that, I would like to share with you some things you might not have considered.
First is that I did not realize just how solid this thing was, and that is GOOD. The problem is that the weight of this combined with the weight of your camera can get tiring fairly quickly. Now, before you pass judgment, l want to say that I am no weakling. I am actually in very good shape and strength train almost every day. So, just be warned that you will need to swap out and take turns with a partner or find a way to support the weight of this system IF you plan on filming for extended periods of time.
Second, is that it can take a little bit of practice getting the balance set up can be a LITTLE challenging until you get the hand of it. It isn't too bad to set up but the first couple of times are somewhat tedious. Definitely NOT a deal breaker because the results of the footage are awesome.
Third, be sure to check and see if your particular camera needs the multi camera control cable that is NOT included in this ESSENTIALS kit. It is about $20 to purchase if needed.
Fourth, be ready to practice with this gimbal so that you can learn all of it's functions. I have yet to use a couple of functions that it can do but I am looking forward to using them. This is a great piece of kit for sure.
That's it! I would purchase it again. I might not use it for every video I shoot but I know that when smooth footage is needed I can rely on the DJI Ronin S.

First things first, if your a YouTuber and your just looking for the fasted possible way to Vlog, stop here. Get a Canon M-50 or a GoPro and put it on a table top gimbal and call it good.
If, however, your looking for a professional tool that is made to last past the first gear cycle, your in the right place.
The design and build quality are outstanding and the battery life is made to last through a complete day of production or wedding and it easily does. Most times I never actually turn it off.
The Essentials kit is really the best deal going and the difference between the outfits is basically a plastic tripod stand verses a metal one and a few of the connection cables. The connection cables make more sense just to buy the 'one' you need for your camera from DJI direct, as they are only 20 bucks.
The tripod is built like a tank, even the plastic one and you'll probably want the plastic one to reduce the overall weight anyway.
This is built to carry more weight and larger setups than most other gimbals and that's a big deal if you have your camera inside a camera cage and don't want to take it out to use the gimbal. This can handle it with ease.
Its surprisingly easy to balance after reading all the comments about it. I think its just using common sense and holding the other arms while balancing each one separately. I had no trouble at all with a Nikon Z6 inside a gage. Just be sure to balance with the lenz at the focal length your gonna use FIRST.
Its SO much easier to just find and use a good quality quick release on top of the included area Swiss plate. That way, you can just pop it on and off after you balance it.
The 3 programmable buttons are a life saver in real world use scenarios. At first I thought that having all the options on a little screen ( like the Moza Air 2 or Aircross ) made more sense....until I used them. In practice, its nearly impossible to actually make all those changes in real time on a busy shoot or wedding. Having the 3 programable buttons ( actually 4 with the mode controlling sports mode on the fly ) is way more than enough. and way easier to remember when you run and gun.
There are a ton of aftermarket handles and accessories if you want to use it like a Crane 2 and much cheaper.
The new firmware update Brough a TON of new features like gimbal control with your Xbox or Playstation controller, real subject tracking, and a host more stuff. DJI has real support too and a working online community that's a great resource. The others I tried were actually a nightmare to deal with after the sale.

Good and very solid tools for serious video work

Purchased it and originally switched from weebill s, instead of the crappy quality and toy-feeling of weebill s, it is really solid and every part is built with high quality.
Each axis just very steady and there isn't any issue about roll axis horizontal issue, which I found in weebill s. The ronin app is a very easy to use. Kinds of accessories for this gimbal is plenty in the market!
If you want to treat your video making process more seriously, this is definitely the choice.
There are only two cons for this gimbal, one is it's a little heavier and there isn't axis lock.
As for first point, which the weight is 1.8kg, take a look at all serious gimbal tools that could handle a heavy camera, most of them is heavy as well, like crane 2, crane 2s, crane 3s. So it's not the heaviest and is acceptable.
Man! Just carry it with your power!

I've owned a Zhiyun Crane 2+, and used gimbals from several brands. This Ronin-S is a great combination of easy to balance and quick to get great results, plus it has excellent battery life.
The included case gets the job done, but feels somewhat temporary (it feels like it's made of high quality styrofoam). This package is very light on accessories and included items, but that's what the essentials kit is all about anyway.
I don't think anything else comes close at this price point if you are flying a mirrorless or small camera.

First gimbal I’ve owned. Very simple to put together. Balancing everything took a bit of practice, good thing there’s a lot of online tutorials to get you started. I chose the Essentials Kit vs the Standard kit because I didnt feel some of the items in the Standard kit were necessary just to get me started. I purchased some of the additional Ronin accessories from the online store later. I have this system paired with a Canon EOS R 35mm RF Lens.

This device is awesome. It's so much easier to balance than the Ronin-SC. I have a Sona A7 III body with the Tamron lenses (17-28mm and 28-70mm). Both work just fine on this gimbal.
I also often have my Rode Mic mounted while filming. It gets in the way of certain shots, but 90% of the shots are able to be done with the mic mounted.
It's a great product.

This is a great gimbal; however, it will take some getting used to if you are not experienced with them. The setup can be tedious at first but you will get better over time. I recommend practicing prior to going out and doing any serious work with it. Also, for some of the features to work you will need additional hardware such as cables etc. Still a great purchase!

The DJI Ronin S is an amazing Gimbal and I absolutely recommend it to anyone! I will say it is a little hefty so just be prepared to hold it plus your rig. This is the gimbal that every YouTuber and freelancer used and while it isn't the newest gimbal at this point that does not mean its bad in any sense its amazing and I love it!

Awesome gimbal for bigger more professional dslr or mirrorless cameras! I used this for my 5d markIV with either my sigma 35mm and sigma 24-70mm both with rode mic mounted on top and this gimbal held up perfectly! Soon as you get the hang of balancing your camera this will be an awesome purchase for beginner or professional cinematographers!

This gimbal is an all around game changer for videography. It is super easy to use and can hold a ton of weight. There is an app that can be downloaded with it which is super helpful. Used this gimbal for a number of shoots now. The overall use is great and makes for a ride variety of stable shots. Build quality is fantastic as with most dji products. Only downside I can think of is the difficulty balancing new camera setups (takes a few tries for each camera to get a hang of) and overall weight of the product.

Saved hundreds buying the Essentials Edition. The motors are super strong and quiet the only gripe I have is that you have to rebalance the gimbal every time you put it back into the case. Overall it’s affordable compared to competitors, has advanced features, and is user-friendly.

I had a crane 3 that wouldn’t work with my a7riii and lens set up I used so I upgraded to this bad boy. All in all it’s a great build . Phenomenal battery life and is and all around great buy. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I needed to upgrade the firmware to get one of the settings to work properly but when I plugged it into my surface laptop it turned itself on and I kept getting messages from my laptop that it was causing a power surge and that my usb drive would not work until I restarted it. I got the insurance with it and thank GOD I did because dji said sometimes that happens and the only remedy is to use a different computer... I didn’t have a different computer to use and Best Buy said my protection plan would allow me to get a new one or I could pay them 40 bucks to upgrade the firmware..... given those options I opted to switch it out. Haven’t tried upgrading the firmware yet if I do and it goes smooth I will probably give this a 5star review because all in all its jammed packed with features and built like a rock.
