I canceled cable before the new season of Doctor Who began, so I had to wait for the Blu-rays. Before finally watching it, I heard mixed reviews. YouTube kept sending me updates on how horrible the new everything-to-do-with-Doctor-Who is, and that it was the end for DW forever and then some. Was it that bad?!?!
Answer: no. The problem is we are in the age of "I can't wait for that movie/show to come out so I can hate it!" age. Or the pre-review of announcing failure of a show or movie before it is even finished being made. Frankly, I can enjoy a lot of things, or find value in things that aren't as good as they can be. Yes, I'm rambling a bit...
My daughters and I really enjoyed (okay, one daughter didn't care for the spider episode) the season. The 13th Doctor is still getting her feet wet, but she's great thus far.
I wish there were more episodes in the season, and I wish they would include the holiday episode with the season (yes, that received a lot of bad reviews long before it even came out... some of which were BECAUSE it hadn't come out yet. Seriously.) since it costs almost as much as what I paid for the season for 1 episode.
The disks played nicely. Very satisfied with the set otherwise!

I enjoyed this season, although it perhaps wasn't as outstanding as some of the others have been. But Jodie Whittaker makes a great Doctor and her companions are also engaging and relatable. Showrunner Chris Chibnall seems interested in bringing a different approach to the show than RTD or Moffat did, with more of an emphasis on discovery and learning than magic and whimsy. (So it frequently has an older, almost Hartnell-esque vibe to it.) Consequently, your mileage may vary.
From a technical standpoint, the BD set seems fine. The US version has one fewer disc than the UK version, but I didn't notice any difference in picture quality from what I would have expected. All the special features seem to have transferred over as well, although they're regrettably not quite as involved as they've been on previous season sets. Still, it's better than nothing!

A new doctor and a new crew in new adventures.

Jodie Whittaker is the new Doctor in the 13 season. In the past, the Doctor had a crew of one or two, but in this season, there are three new crew members flying around the universe. Most episodes are strictly fun sci-fi. But there are a couple of episodes that hit a more serious note. "Rosa and Demons of the Punjab" both deal with racial prejudice. When the series changes Doctors, it always takes a little time to get used to the change. This is not just a change of Doctors, but a change in sexes. The first woman Doctor is hard to get used too. I'm sure she'll grow on people in time.

This is the 1st season (11th overall in the Revival series) with the New Female Doctor and Although I think she is great as a the Doctor, the writers could have done some more. There is no overall story Arc this season, which I’m not happy about as it gives a backstory and drive to the Doctor. This season was more along the lines of “Challenge/Monster of the week”. I’m hoping the next season (which premieres in 2020) will give this new Doctor a Story Arc That will engage fans and lovers of What makes Doctor Who so great!

First, let me say that I loved this season of Doctor Who. I loved the new, first female, Doctor, and I hope she continues for a long time.
That said, I had one major issue with this season set: Unlike almost all the complete season sets that came before after the relaunch, this season set did not contain the previous Christmas Special! If you did not get "Twice Upon a Christmas" standalone DVD/Blue-Ray/whatever, then you will not have it in your collection.
Wish I had known that a year ago.

I've been watching Who since I was a kid in the 80's, Tom Baker was always MY Doctor...but I've always enjoyed the various new incarnations as well to varying degrees. I like how this new series harks back to the old days while still being modern and relevant and the wonderful Jodie Whittaker reminds me a lot of Baker in the best ways. Highly recommend it if you're a fan of witty Sci Fi with a touch of getting a learn on and social commentary.

Jodie Whittaker is not the best Doctor... I do not think that anyone can top David Tennant. Although, just judging her, she does do a good job.
The issue from this season is the stories. They aren't bad, but they lack that "something" that defined the Matt Smith and Capaldi eras. I think that the series is missing Steven Moffat.

While many fans were concerned about the Doctor's latest regeneration resulting in a gender swap, when watching these ten episodes you will quickly forget about all that and believe that Jodie Whittaker IS the Doctor.
Note: The New Year's Day Special, Resolution, is a separate release and not part of this season set.

Every regeneration takes time to catch on (and I would like to have seen more of McGann and Eccleston). Whitaker is fine but it seems forced that the cast is "one of everything." We get it; diversity is good, but The Doctor seems to work best with one companion at a time, as far as streamlined storytelling.

A new doctor and a new gender, Stories are pretty good but the series is still finding its way with the departure of the writer of all the previous episode. Still the series hold promise and has some interesting new villians that have never been seen before. A good watch

Been watching this series since the 60's and it has only gotten better. Holy Crap, a Woman Doctor? Didn't now if this was going to take off, but Jodi had a following prior to becoming the Doctor. She has done the series great with her first season.

Regardless of gender, THIS is the Doctor.
Jodie Whittaker makes the 50+ year old role her own and it's a solid first season.
Technical aspects of this set are high. The budget of the show increased and you can see it on screen.

older collections include the Christmas/new years specials the but the newer ones don't. I guess the BBC figured out that people will buy them separately so they can make more. Still, had to get it to maintain my complete collection.

A little nervous about the first female doctor, but was quickly put at ease watching the first episode. She's got all the best qualities of the last 4 doctors. Enjoyable stories and I liked seeing the exploration of her companions!

Jodie Whittaker makes an impressive debut as the first female incarnation of the Doctor. A worthy addition for any serious fan; can't wait to see how this actor develops the character in the upcoming season 12.

The Doctor Who Stories for Series 11 were exciting as usual. Frustrated that the Resolution episode was not included. Release of Series 11 should have been held off so Resolution episode could have been included.

Loved the new doctor. However, I was a bit disappointed with the villains this year. Would have been nice if they would have included at least 1 or 2 traditional, old-school Who villains.

Jodie Whittaker’s debut season as The Doctor suffers from some not-so-great writing in places. But boy, does the show look good. Great extras, too, for those who like that sort of thing.
