Haven’t watched the movie yet but purchased primarily to add to my collection.

This particular adventure is interesting, where Barbara is mistaken for an Aztec goddess and goes along with it in an effort to change their practice of human sacrifice. The Doctor tells her "You can't change the book of history, not one line!" Any fan of the show knows that he goes on to do that all the time. Also included in this special edition is a reconstruction of the story of Galaxy 4, which was nearly entirely missing until an episode was recently discovered. All extant footage is here. The overall stories in both adventures are not the most engaging, but for the hardcore Whovian, this is a must have.

Its easy to see why William Hartnell's portrayal as the original Doctor led to a series that was still being shown 50 years later. This show features what used to be a staple in Doctor Who, the historical episode. In the early days it was envisioned to be not only entertaining but educational as well. The popularity of the enemies like the Daleks pushed this type episode aside. The last truly historical episode was Black Orchid back in 1982. What made this disc special was the extras in my opinion. Hearing the unique stories about the difficulty in filming give you a real idea of the personalities behind the scenes.

This is from the early B&W days of Doctor Who. It's a solid entry from the era where Who did purely historical stories. Set during the French Revolution, it's a solid story of intrigue. They do a nice job restoring the lost parts by animated to audio recordings. The extras for this story include a pretty good commentary track and making of features. Like many of the classic Who discs, it provides lots of information about how the show was made. Well worth it for fans of classic Who.

To me this was an early version of the Keys of Time season under Tom Baker, similar quest format. The arc was an early indication of the health problems of William Hartnell as he did have episodes off. Some of the quests were more interesting than others, but that is the mode of the old serials lasting several episodes in length.

A good 1st Doctor Who story. Although I enjoy the 1st Doctor stories for their historical value as "Classic" Who stories, I do not find them as engaging as, for example, the 2nd Doctor stories. However, one of the gems of this special edition is a reconstruction of the story "Galaxy 4".

This is one of the better classic Doctor Who stories. It also has the "lost" Galaxy 4 included. I wish they did all the audio Galaxy 4. But they cut it down to over an hour. But the main point was the video clips of Galaxy 4 included. I couldn't tell that the story was cut down to over an hour, from around an hour and a half on audio only. I enjoyed both stories. There are other extras as well, but those two listed above where the main reason I bought and enjoyed the DVD.

During Doctor Who's early years, several stories were produced that were purely historical, with no sci-fi elements. This is the earliest surviving example. A bonus is the inclusion of the third episode of Galaxy 4, a four-part story that was missing from the BBC archives in its entirety until part three was returned to the BBC by a private collector in 2011.

I'm a huge classic Who fan. This story...is not one of the best. The idea is good, they have to search for a set of keys to a machine that will protect the good guys from the bad guys. On the good side, there aren't a lot of effects to bog the story down. On the bad side, the story is just...boring and standard. The acting from the Tardis crew is good as usual, they just didn't have much to work with.

Great for anyone who wants to check out the roots of the greatest sci-fi show in the galaxy!!

The main thing to remember about watching a first seaeson story of Doctor Who is: the age of the episodes. This particular show was made 56 years ago. Special effects were a new thing, and this show did not have a huge budget. However, this particular story is one of the strongest William Hartnell Doctor's to exisi. This is the 2nd major "space" story arc and it is an entertaining basic sci=fi romp. It was transmitted just after the first historical episode (the seven part MARCO POLO)., and prior to the first historical story that still exisits ( the AZTECS). The Keys Of Marinus combines all the elements that made the early Hartnells so charming. The gruffness of "Grandfather" . the shrill screaming of Susan. the "tres macho" Ian. a rubbery . but believeable monster in the Voord, .and Barbara who could be one of the shows best screamers. but decided not to do that in this story. Marinus is one of the first examples of the development of feminism in sci=fi. Barbara actively steps up and solves the kidnapping without involving the Doctor. Do I think that you should watch this show? YES. Here is what is going to happen. You will put the dvd in and in five minutes pull the dvd out cussing about how bad it is, or you will laugh hysterically for the better part of two hours. (and not because the show wants you to). or you will take into account the shows age and watch a prime example of early 1960"s sci=fi unfold before your senses. The first time I watched this episode I was left with a nagging feeling in the back of my brain, it was'nt until the second viewing that I started to apreciate the depths of characterisations that the actors were trying to achieve . the actors were really busting their tails to make this believable. So suspend the"Avatar" special effects for a couple hours. and travel back in time to1964. I think you're going to like it.

From the very first season of "Doctor Who", this story pulls the viewers in with a long camera shot following our heroes into a strange ship with dead people returning to life. Nothing is what it seems and the villains turn out to be the victims... Perhaps a little slow for some tastes, but captivating.

I really enjoyed the video. It is very entertaining and gave me a look into the beginnings of Dr. Who.
