Take a character conjured up in the mind of Rudy Ray Moore add some material from his numerous comedy albums and bring it to the big screen and you have Dolemite. After wrongly being imprisoned and finally set free Dolemite decides to get revenge on the people who set him up using street smarts and his army of Kung fu women at his sides.A cult classic that didn't set out to be the film it became but still made it's claim to fame. This release includes two versions of the film with one being a boom mic version one of the things that really stood out in the original release. The set includes features that give a good look behind the making of Dolemite from various members of the crew including some of the hardships they went through making the movie and extension information with interviews of Rudy Ray Moore himself and his origins in entertainment.Dolemite as a film may never be considered a sprawling epic but if you want to view a movie that entertains and makes you laugh when you shouldn't look no further then Dolemite a great edition for fans and newcomers alike.

Not the best movie but a classic in its own right. Wish the digital copy worked with vudu.

I assume anyone reading this reviews knows the film itself, so I won't comment on that. Low budget but highly entertaining, and definitely a period piece.
The transfer on this blu ray is very good. I'm actually surprised this film looks as good as it does. There do seem to be some lip sync issues here and there that I didn't notice before, but I didn't drag out my old dvd to see if the same sync issues were present on that transfer. (I have a feeling they are since it only happens a few times.) Good bonus features on the blu-ray, too, including viewing in different aspect rations and some documentaries about the film.
Highly recommended for fans of Rudy Ray Moore and Lady Reed, the Queen Bee.

Vinegar Syndrome puts a lot of effort into their releases with quality extras and nice transfers. Good release for those who enjoy blaxploitation movies.

Dolemite is a 1975 American blaxploitation crime film. Although many of those types of films received much criticism, I still feel that they are classics in the black community.
