Missed out on all these Wii U games. This is definitely scratching my donkey Kong itch. Here goes to hoping for a new donkey Kong game... fingers crossed for a dk64 sequel!

So before you buy this, remember this game is hard. It's an excellent port with short load times and a few extras. Funky Kong makes the game easier, and because levels are so hard they still allow you to proceed to the next one if you are using funky mode.
It's a hard platformer but it's based on looking forward and learning what to expect. You basically play until you know the level well enough that you can get through the obstacles easier.
I found it a good reminder of when i used to play Donkey Kong on my gameboy, it's not for everyone but I loved the game.

This game is really fantastic! The music is fantastic, the game play is challenging, and the game looks beautiful! It is a super hard game that shows no mercy, but that is part of the fun!

This game is an amazing homage to it's roots on the Super Nintendo. It's a platformer that is, at times, very challenging but it also has a lot of depth and is extremely fun.

I'm not a huge fan of 2-D platformers. They have to be special to keep my interest for very long. The DKC series, especially the Returns series, does just that. I've never played a 2-D that keeps me as intrigued and surprised like this series. Specifically for this game, I've played through the first few levels so far, and I'm constantly saying stuff like, "Wow" and "That's crazy" and "Didn't expect that". Unique level design, extremely fun and satisfying gameplay makes this a must play game for anyone who gets enjoyment from platformers.

Two things about this game that are a bit disappointing: Nintendo is actually charging more for it on Switch than they did when it originally released on Wii U, and they didn't package it with DKC Returns, like I really hoped they would, similar to Bayonetta 1+2.
That said, as soon as this game was announced for Switch I knew I was getting it. Tropical Freeze was one of my personal favorite Wii U titles and I truly think it is one of the best 2D platformers of all-time. Level design, difficulty, soundtrack, controls, they're all just about perfect. If you never played this game on Wii U, buy it! It absolutely deserves to be in your collection.

Having grown up with the classic Donkey Kong games, I found Tropical Freeze to be a great homage to them. The levels are incredibly well designed, with fun and interesting mechanics and obstacles, all in different themes. The puzzles and secret exits can be a challenge to find, and one that adds to replayability. Sometimes death feels a little cheap, like when they introduce a new obstacle too quickly for you to react to it. But lives are abundant, and it never feels like a grind to overcome a level. It is also a very fun game to watch other people play, and two pairs of eyes can help you find secrets better!

I haven't played Donkey Kong Country in years since the SNES days. I have to say I haven't had this much fun in years with a video game. The levels are very well designed. However they are at times very difficult. This is a good thing if you want a challenge. Your timing needs to be very very precise. Funky Mode definitely makes things easier as I initially struggled without having it on. This is a must own if you have a Switch.

H-H-H...Here we go!
So they're finally here, performing for you
If you know the words, you can join in too
Put your hands together if you want to clap
As we take you through this fun-ky rap! HUH!
D. K.! Donkey Kong!
He's the leader of the bunch. You know him well.
He's finally back to kick some tail!
His coconut gun can fire in spurts
If he shoots ya, it's gonna hurt!
He's bigger! faster! and stronger too!
He's the first member of the DK crew!
D. K.! Donkey Kong! HEY!
D. K.! Donkey Kong is here!
This Kong's got style, so listen up dudes!
She shrinks in size to suit her mood!
She's quick n' nimble when she needs to be
She floats in air and climbs up trees!
If you choose her, you won't choose wrong
With a skip and a hop, she's ONE COOL KONG!
D. K.! Donkey Kong!
He has no style, he has no grace
This Kong...has a funny face
He can handstand when he wants to
And stretch his arms out just for you!
In-flate himself just like a balloon
This cra-zy Kong just digs this tune! HEY!
D. K.! (D. K.!) Donkey Kong!
D. K.! (D. K.!) Donkey Kong is here!

Tight controls and gorgeous graphics, along with very unique level design are the staples of this game. I just wish the price was cheaper, but it's worth the $60.

The new Nintendo Switch Donkey Kong game is really fun. It is two player and has more characters than I can remember being in the Nintendo Wii version. The gameplay is still two dimensional but has times where the screen rotates to make it a bit more engaging. The new levels in this game are just as difficult as previous versions, but my 7 year old had trouble at times even at the beginning levels of this game. I would totally recommend playing this during family time to be able to help younger ones through the levels. All-in-all, a lot of fun and worth the money.

This game sadly didn't sale too well in it's initial release (thanks to the Wii U's poor sales) so I hope it's gets more attention on the Switch, and it looks like it is judging from it's sales numbers. This game is just a masterpiece in so many ways, the level design is amazing and lush with detail, the music is some of the best the industry has to offer, the selection of characters is the most a Donkey Kong has had to date (and now this version adds Funky), playing in 2 player co-op is a blast and the bosses are unique and fun. Overall amazing!

This is a tough game to master. For an older game, the port of this is classic is just as fun as ever. Outside of the graphical upgrade it still plays like the Wii U version which isn’t a bad thing. Note that really young kids can get easily frustrated with the difficulty

As is typical with Donkey Kong games, this game is brutally difficult. Thank goodness they included the playable character Funky Kong, making it easier to beat the game. I also like how Funky Kong isn’t just easy mode. I still die a lot even when playing as him.
It’s worth mentioning that the level design and environments are fantastic. There are tons of diverse environments to play through, and some of the set pieces are breathtaking. One level where you travel in a mine cart comes to mind.

I used to enjoy playing donkey kong as a kid myself even in the Atari, then all the donkey kong countries. And it's still great today with DK tropical freeze on the switch, beautiful graphics and a world of fun especially with more then 1 players, playing with someone else presents it's own set of set of challenges as you must work together to get through the levels and depend on each other which is great. If you love Donkey Kong, I think you'll love this.

Back to basics. A smooth, high fidelity version of the classic donkey kong that won our hearts in the 90s. Super nostalgic for anyone who played the original DKC games on Super Nintendo, but fun and easy to pick up and play for anyone who is knew the franchise or this 2D side scrolling version of it. This game isn't entirely 2D either, it definitely feels fresh and updated. Loads of fun!

The DKC trilogy on Super Nintendo were among my favorite games growing up. Tropical Freeze is...a different experience. The controls to this game feel floaty and not as tight and on point as some of the great SNES platformers of yore, which appeals to many but not me (for the record, I consider Super Mario World to be the greatest platformer of all time due to its wonderful control scheme, with Donkey Kong Country 2 a very close second).
However, the level design, soundtrack (by the great David Wise!), and visuals are all sublime. The boss fights are more challenging and more entertaining that DKC 1 and 3, and likely surpass 2 in my eyes, as well.
The only other complaint I have is the generic bonus rooms. These are worse than the original DKC trilogy and truly feel uninspired. Hopefully Retro will get a chance to right these wrongs in a potential sequel.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is amazing. The level design is some of the greatest in all of gaming, the environments have outstanding variety, and there is an array of colorful enemies and bosses. While difficult, it’s a journey well worth experiencing.
