I picked up a Nintendo Wii U to play about eight games: Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros Wii U, Zelda Wind Waker, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, DKC Tropical Freeze, and Super Mario 3D World. Notice all of these games are Nintendo exclusives, and most of them are made by Nintendo. I was really looking forward to DKC because I grew up playing Donkey Kong Land 2 and 3 on my Game Boy for hours at a time. I had tried the Wii DKC Returns game, and it was pretty good. Unfortunately, this Wii U version fell below my expectations. First off, the game looks absolutely awe-inspiring. This game is eye-candy to the max. The levels, enemies, and AI partners are all interesting and beautifully made. The levels are very memorable, and the soundtrack is great too. The couch co-op mode is pretty fun as well. Although this game isn't very beginner friendly past the 2nd stage of levels. Now the things I didn't like were a false difficulty level and the lack of precise controls. The game "enhances" difficulty by basically throwing random obstacles in your way. It literally FORCES you to die the first time because there is no reaction time, there was no way to see death coming. The second time through you have learned exactly when to jump or roll, but only from the memory of dying. This aspect coupled with controls that aren't very precise on the gamepad leaves the game feeling not very fun with a fake level of difficulty. To be fair I didn't try it on the Wii U Pro controller, so maybe the controls were a little better on that. Out of the games I played for the Wii U, I would fully recommend Bayonetta 2 and Super Mario 3D World as my favorite games period.

Great platforming. Fun, excellent level design, smooth and just plain fun gameplay. But it's really not anything we haven't seen before in the prior games in the series. That's not to take away from it, because it remains incredibly fun. Just not original or innovative.

My family and I all really enjoy Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. I think it's one of the better looking Nintendo Wii u games. The music in the game is nice too in my opinion.

Wonderful environments, some of the best level design I've seen in a while, but the controls are incredibly frustrating. Worth a rental.

I never played Donkey Kong Country before this game, and honestly, after playing it, I feel so deprived. I wish I had known sooner that this game would be so enjoyable to play through and that the visuals would be as appealing as they were. You can choose between Dixie, Diddy, and Cranky Kong as companions. An early tip I'd recommend is Dixie is usually best :)

Very good game. Some levels are easy but some took me many many tries to pass.

In terms of a Donkey Kong game, superb. New concepts, new adventure, etc, great. However in this day and age, side scrollers really need a bit more innovation or catch, just feels a bit watered when compared to other products. Not to say it's a bad game, just saying it's not memorable.

This version of Donkey Kong County is still following in the platformer style with a 3D element. There's no D.K. coins but there are puzzle pieces to collect. The visualization of all the scenery in most of the levels is really nice along with the music. The controls are very responsive using the Wii U game pad. I don't have a Wii U pro controller so I can't vouch for the response with one. For the price of $15.00 I feel it was worth it although I still feel it is lacking. I feel removing the D.K. coins and providing multiple puzzle pieces, mostly hidden through the levels, was a bad move. I also feel that having to play the game multiple times to achieve full completion is a major drawback. The original D.K. country's along with the N64 version only called for one single, yet thorough, playthrough to achieve full completion. Including special abilities from Ditty Kong, Cranky Kong, Dixie Kong, and Donkey Kong becomes more character's than what's needed and I feel it just creates a filler of sorts, and not an extra or bonus to the game. I'm nitpicking so don't take any of this at face value. I'm a retro gamer of 80's 90's and early 2000's. That's where I find my sweet spots for games so take all I've said with a grain of salt. The game is very well programed. I found no glitches or freezing throughout my initial play through. It's a good game, but I still find my self revolving between D.K. Country 1,2, and 3, more often than returning to Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze. I still find it a fun game and would recommend any D.K. Country or platformer lover to check this out if u have a Wii U. If u don't have a Wii U yet I wouldn't go out and get one for this game and only a few other games yet. I did and I regret my $200.00 Wii U purchase due to it mostly sits there turned off 29 day a month out of a 30 day month. I would recommend wait for the price drop in a few months due to the Nintendo NX being released soon, and the supposive talk of Wii U game development coming to a screeching halt once the Nintendo NX is released. Grab the game(s) u want for it as u find them cheap on line or at game shops/flea markets new or used and then get a Wii U once the price drops.

Had this game and its sequels growing up on SNES and N64. Happy my kids can enjoy it today. It's fun and it even has a button to push to turn your character into a "follow mode" if it's too hard for the kids. Awesome game

It's pretty good. My only gripe is you can't simultaneously play on the gamepad and TV. Also I wish the headphone jack would work while playing on the TV so you don't disturb somebody at night.

If you like scrollers/platformers then you'll love this game. It is much better than previous editions of Donkey Kong. It is a lot of fun and the designs are great.

Bought this game for my son for Christmas. Him and i both enjoy playing it, separately and together. Great graphics, fun challenging game play..

great graphics & game play - kept me busy for hours at a time which may or may not be a good thing depending on your situation

Not too bad, controls feel just a tad clunky but the gameplay more than makes up for it

This game is very challenging and is one of the best looking game on the Wii U. The soundtrack is great.

donkey kong is a fun side scrolling adventure for the whole family beware it has its hard parts

Warning: game is difficult. Fun and super challenging, but be prepared to play the same level multiple times.

This game is really fun. Playing with a friend makes it even better. Highly recommended.
