I first played through this game during it's release during the pandemic and I fell in love with it's atmosphere immediately. It's REALLY well optimized and even before I upgraded my ram and processor this was fantastic on my weird jerry-rigged PC I made in middle school. Eventually it dropped to $5 for PC and I was lucky to snag it there. After officially owning it now I can just say it feels great to replay through this on my Steam Profile. Great game.

The graphics and sound track are incredible and it gets your blood pumping! Amazing gameplay - very smooth gameplay on ultra settings.
Some demons are very hard to kill so you have to get creative to conserve ammo and regen using chainsaw.
One thing that completely ruins this game is the ridiculous platforming stunts one has to do to get over obstacles in order to advance to the next level. Some obstacles involve a sequence of triple jumps with double dashes and swinging over ledges in a sequence to get to the next stage. During these jumps I have died several times which has made this game so annoying because it starts you back at the last checkpoint again when you die. I didn't buy Doom to jump over ledges to complete the level, I play it for the fun of killing demons using multiple weapons and upgrades.
I hope Bethesda fixes this platforming nonsense.

Doom 2016 was uncontested GotY, so I was expecting another A+++ gaming experience with Eternal, sadly this game came up short. While it's technically a well made game, id decided that Doom 2016 was too simplistic and the result was making the game into a convoluted mess.
Now you have to constantly micromanage ammo and armor, the ammo issue is especially annoying because the stronger enemies have weak points that typically can only be hit by one weapon type, so you'll have to duck out of battles and go on a scavenger hunt for a lone demon to chainsaw for ammo. Ammo is typically found by chainsawing enemies (recharges on a timer, or fuel pickups), armor is refilled by using flame belch on enemies (recharges on a timer). Throughout the game you will constantly have to stop and utilize these two techniques instead of just going on your merry way and laying waste to all that moves. You can upgrade the amount of ammo you hold throughout the game, but it's still really low, especially because the stronger enemies are typically bullet sponges.
They also introduced a new enemy straight out of dark souls, you can only damage him after stunning him, which requires being at mid range right before he attacks. Now some people found a way to cheese this enemy and kill it after one stun, but it obviously wasn't designed to be taken out so easily and it won't unless you memorize the technique. I won't be surprised if the DLC fixes this. It's just an inconvenience because it completely causes the frantic pace to come to a stand-still as you do nothing, waiting for him to attack.
Besides the game play, id also decided we no longer want a Doom Slayer who destroys monitors because he doesn't need a reason to kill, so now there's all sorts of convoluted story that even includes flashbacks. Nobody wanted this, please cut it out. Finally, the platforming sections aren't anything to write home about, they typically just consist of boosting through the air, they're not the retro Doom style exploration I was hoping for.
Now for the good: the music is great, more color has been added to the environments, the movement is all-around improved and even includes air dashing, and some of the new weapons (especially the Super Shotgun's hook and chain) are great. There are some good ideas here and overall improvements, but in the end it's bogged down because id forgot the brilliance in 2016's simplicity. Finally, don't even bother criticizing this game around it's fanboys because they are typically only capable of responding in memes. Doom Eternal by no means a bad game, but it pales in comparison to Doom 2016.

GOTY for me. Easy to pick up but hard to master, for the twitch-shooter player at heart as you take down hordes of demons.

The game is incredibly, graphically impressive. There is way more animation and detail in the demonic horde than Doom 2016. Demons show damage and gore when they are shot. The death animations are super impressive; however, the game has frustrating, arcade style jumping puzzles and platforming. The bosses are not hard but needlessly frustrating. There are lots of secrets and unlockables in your doom ship. I enjoyed it!

Crazy game, its non-stop pedal to the medal. Even more off the hook than Doom 2016. Also way harder, ammo in particular is a precious resource. Its a fast paced mobile shooter, which requires planning and thought. Huge maps, tons of secrets, violent soundtrack, spectacular graphics. I'm able to run 144 fps at 1440p no problems, ultra vulkan. gtx 1080 16 gm ram i5 6600k. Download code was for the bethesda store however which isnt ideal.

I've been a fan of Doom since its beginnings and this latest installment is a blast to play. The graphics are impressive and the gameplay solid. Do note you'll want a pretty current graphics card in your Pc if you want all the eye candy turned on and smooth gameplay. The only thing that kinda sucks is the fact that the game does not have a physical media release, only a digital download.

The Doom franchise is always entertaining. You know what you're going to get: action, over the top gore and solid visuals. You get all of those in this version of the game.
It's not just a straight FPS. There are other mechanics in the game and that keeps it fresh (and frustrating) at times.
There's definitely a few bugs in the game that required restarts. Be aware!

It's definitely a labor of love. If you're like me, you'll probably be a bit put off by the story. But eventually it grew on me. It's not as invasive as I believed it to be, and there's plenty of references to the original Doom games anyway, so while it doesn't always connect perfectly to them, it'll feel familiar enough. But all that aside, it's still well worth playing through the entire campaign just for the game alone, even if you happen to not dig the story as much. It really might be one of the best FPS, if not the best FPS of the last decade, even better than Doom 2016 in terms of gameplay, challenge and level design. I say get it!

Extremely fun gunplay. Very fast and difficult. Graphics are a different style than the prior game but still beautiful. Definitely recommend so long as you don't mind a very hard and violent game.

If you are a fan of the old school fast action quake/doom/Wolfenstein era games this is the perfect match. Doom eternal is the perfect sequel to the 2016 release, more fast paced action and more over the top gore.

Absolutely 0 complaints about the gameplay, my rating comes from the physical game itself. I like to have physical copies of games which is why I purchased this. Unfortunately when I opened my case I found a paper replica of a disc with a download code on it......a PAPER DISC WITH A DOWNLOAD CODE ON IT. Honestly what is the point of making a game case, advertising as a PHYSICAL copy of a game just to give us a paper cd...I truly feel bamboozled. Game is awesome though.

As you may expect, it's of typical pc physical copy quality (a la not great, but serviceable). Doesn't come with a physical disk but instead a cardboard disk with a Bethesda Launcher code on it. Keep in mind that past April 2022, the code //should// be able to be activated on Steam. As of when I ordered, it came with a much, much nicer Steelbook case as a bonus gift.
