The best arena shooter you'll play so far
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I first played through this game during it's release during the pandemic and I fell in love with it's atmosphere immediately. It's REALLY well optimized and even before I upgraded my ram and processor this was fantastic on my weird jerry-rigged PC I made in middle school. Eventually it dropped to $5 for PC and I was lucky to snag it there. After officially owning it now I can just say it feels great to replay through this on my Steam Profile. Great game.

DOOM Eternal

Mick Gordon Soundtrack
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's definitely a labor of love. If you're like me, you'll probably be a bit put off by the story. But eventually it grew on me. It's not as invasive as I believed it to be, and there's plenty of references to the original Doom games anyway, so while it doesn't always connect perfectly to them, it'll feel familiar enough. But all that aside, it's still well worth playing through the entire campaign just for the game alone, even if you happen to not dig the story as much. It really might be one of the best FPS, if not the best FPS of the last decade, even better than Doom 2016 in terms of gameplay, challenge and level design. I say get it!

Amazing with one exception
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The graphics and sound track are incredible and it gets your blood pumping! Amazing gameplay - very smooth gameplay on ultra settings. Some demons are very hard to kill so you have to get creative to conserve ammo and regen using chainsaw. One thing that completely ruins this game is the ridiculous platforming stunts one has to do to get over obstacles in order to advance to the next level. Some obstacles involve a sequence of triple jumps with double dashes and swinging over ledges in a sequence to get to the next stage. During these jumps I have died several times which has made this game so annoying because it starts you back at the last checkpoint again when you die. I didn't buy Doom to jump over ledges to complete the level, I play it for the fun of killing demons using multiple weapons and upgrades. I hope Bethesda fixes this platforming nonsense.

Works on Steam
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's just a physical case with a serial key inside. Since the Bethesda Launcher no more, the gam serial keys for it can just be redeemed directly on Steam now.

Clearance Buy for $5, Fantastic FPS
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic FPS game, one of the best. I was able to snag this on clearance for $5 and it came with the free DOOM Eternal SteelBook. The game redeems as a Bethesda key but as of April 27, 2022 they have migrated their launcher to Steam so you are also able to redeem this key directly on Steam. If you have already redeemed the key on the Bethesda launcher you can go through the migration process to move your games to Steam.

Doesn't live up to its predecessor
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Doom 2016 was uncontested GotY, so I was expecting another A+++ gaming experience with Eternal, sadly this game came up short. While it's technically a well made game, id decided that Doom 2016 was too simplistic and the result was making the game into a convoluted mess. Now you have to constantly micromanage ammo and armor, the ammo issue is especially annoying because the stronger enemies have weak points that typically can only be hit by one weapon type, so you'll have to duck out of battles and go on a scavenger hunt for a lone demon to chainsaw for ammo. Ammo is typically found by chainsawing enemies (recharges on a timer, or fuel pickups), armor is refilled by using flame belch on enemies (recharges on a timer). Throughout the game you will constantly have to stop and utilize these two techniques instead of just going on your merry way and laying waste to all that moves. You can upgrade the amount of ammo you hold throughout the game, but it's still really low, especially because the stronger enemies are typically bullet sponges. They also introduced a new enemy straight out of dark souls, you can only damage him after stunning him, which requires being at mid range right before he attacks. Now some people found a way to cheese this enemy and kill it after one stun, but it obviously wasn't designed to be taken out so easily and it won't unless you memorize the technique. I won't be surprised if the DLC fixes this. It's just an inconvenience because it completely causes the frantic pace to come to a stand-still as you do nothing, waiting for him to attack. Besides the game play, id also decided we no longer want a Doom Slayer who destroys monitors because he doesn't need a reason to kill, so now there's all sorts of convoluted story that even includes flashbacks. Nobody wanted this, please cut it out. Finally, the platforming sections aren't anything to write home about, they typically just consist of boosting through the air, they're not the retro Doom style exploration I was hoping for. Now for the good: the music is great, more color has been added to the environments, the movement is all-around improved and even includes air dashing, and some of the new weapons (especially the Super Shotgun's hook and chain) are great. There are some good ideas here and overall improvements, but in the end it's bogged down because id forgot the brilliance in 2016's simplicity. Finally, don't even bother criticizing this game around it's fanboys because they are typically only capable of responding in memes. Doom Eternal by no means a bad game, but it pales in comparison to Doom 2016.

Q: QuestionWhat store will this preorder be on? Hoping it’s redeemable on steam
Asked by Zach.
- A:Answer According to the description of this listing on the Bethesda store, it will be redeemable only on the Bethesda Launcher: https://gear.bethesda.net/products/doom-eternal-collectors-edition#imageThumb "The PC Version of the game will come with a printed code and the code is redeemable on Bethesda.net." Although this is the collector's edition, I'm sure this applies to the standard edition as well.
