    Kubrick's Wit

Kubrick has often been critiqued as a cold, cerebral filmmaker, one who emphasized his artistic and painterly skills rather than any intimate human moments. In some ways, he did. He wasn't a director who one would think of as imbuing his films with any comedic elements. But with "Dr. Strangelove," however, I personally feel that Kubrick let rip with some of the most hysterically funny situations and dialogue ever in an anti-war black comedy. Sure, the sets designed by the maestro Ken Adam are amazing and brilliant. Sure, the gorgeous black-and-white photography is a glory to behold. But it's the humor that could be found in what was a terribly uneasy, scary time -- the Cold War -- that was Kubrick's gift to discriminating cinemaphiles everywhere. It's a classic.

    Peter Sellers Is Magnificent !!

Peter Sellers outdoes himself as he plays 3 roles. Also starting George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, Keenan Wynn, & James Earl Jones. Produced & directed by Stanley Kubrick....can it get better ?? An entertaining & thought provoking film about what would happen if the wrong person pushed the button for the hydrogen bomb in a satirical situation. Peter Sellers is brilliant as he plays 3 different roles. It's been said that Dr. Strangelove has somehow lost it's appeal over the years....NO WAY !! It's as brilliant today as it's initial release time. It is full of lampoons and crazy warmongering machismo that never goes out of style. This film will have you wondering and laughing simultaneously. Truly a film that spans generations.

    Gorgeous Steelbook

I will assume that most people know about the movie (arguably the greatest black comedy of all time); so, I'll just stick to reviewing the steelbook. Dr. Strangelove was previously released on Blu-ray only in a digipak. That digipak is now out of print. So, thank God Best Buy decided to re-release the film on Blu-ray in a steelbook. The artwork on the steelbook fits the film perfectly, and this blu-ray has the same transfer and all of the features that the previous release had. Excellent release all-around!

A classic movie directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Peter Sellers and George C Scott …..definitely a black comedy but some of this stuff later happened… as usual Stanley K was ahead of his time and spot on….. i love the 4k transfer it really makes the black and white film pop out and is super crisp! a definite must for any collector of great cinema

The Blu-ray visual presentation of this fine film is a noticeable improvement over the DVD. The supplements are the same as the two disc collectors edition DVD. While the steel book has excellent exterior cover art, the interior is a bland gray. The recent steel book sale put this version at a much cheaper price point than the standard blu-ray release, so I couldn't pass up owning this!

I love this movie. It’s funny and sad at the same time. Loaded with well known stars at that time. My collection is getting bigger. I like shopping at Best Buy because you have a good chance of finding what you’re looking for.

It's a fantastic film as all the Kubrick's films are. Unfortunately due to limited supplies, the digibook which was the only version went out of print. However, thanks to Sony, the movie made its way to steelbook and is Best Buy exclusive. As you can see the cover art is stylistic. Inside has no design just plain gray color, but the disc has a drawing of bomb. Overall the movie and the steelbook are excellent. Get it before it goes oop again.

A perfect cast for this dark comedy led by Peter Sellers and directed by Stanley Kubrick.Sellers plays three different characters and is brilliant as is George C.Scott and Sterling Hayden.Scene stealer Slim Pickens plays a rootin' tootin' cowboy who ends up ridding a nuclear warhead while waving his cowboy hat. This Blu-ray edition contains many interesting extras that is worth the price.A classic...

The Cold War is long over, the Soviet Union is long gone, yet this amazing movie loses none of it's punch, a simply perfect film with a perfect (glorious black & white) image, the Ken Adam production design is a standout. Highly recommended!

It's been a few years since I saw Doctor Strangelove. It amazes me what Stanley Kubrick and the writers got away with in the early sixties. The film is definitely satirical in its approach and kind of puts a silly spin of the Cold War fears of nuclear destruction. In the midst of all that, you find characters who, while caricatures of types of people, have some of the most wickedly funny names, which poke even more fun at the characters. Starting with the titular character, Doctor Strangelove, add in General Bull Turgidson, and of course the president in the movie (you'll have to watch to get his name), and finishing off with Major Chang, played by Slim Pickens riding the nuclear bomb as it falls to earth. A dark comedy to be sure, but worth the watch.

I really liked the Sting. With all its twists and turns, it made for a interesting experience. I have always liked Paul Newman and Robert Redford . Playing together, made for a great show. The 1930's Chicago has always intriged me.

Great movie from years ago. Had to have it in 4K format with Digital copy. Have lots of older films but can’t get 4K for them. Most are on DVD. Still nice to have but really would like to have them in 4K especially if they included a Digital copy.

This is a Cold War gem. Definitely looking at the worst case scenario, later depicted in movies like Defcon 1 and The Day After, but in an extremely humorous sense. Prepare to defend your precious bodily fluids! Peter Sellers plays three excellent roles in this one and is surrounded by a stellar supporting cast. A must have in your Blu-Ray library!

I had previously owned Dr. Strangelove on Blu-ray, but I sold it thanks to high resale value and the expectation that maybe Sony would upgrade it with a new anniversary edition. Instead, I ended up with this Steelbook, which is identical to the disc I previously owned, but has the nice new Pop Art design. My only complaint is that it doesn't have the full title on the spine.
