The demo had me hooked. Building your city block by block was really fun. Basic combat, but we are really here to stack blocks in an orderly fashion. But after the first few hours you find yourself doing the same thing over and over and starting from scratch in each new area. Very frustrating. Its a good game, just not my cup of tea, especially at $50.

The building mechanics take a bit to get used to, but the game is really fun regardless!

Plays like minecraft with a focus or story. The combat is shallow.

Just like a classic game but after playing it for a few hours. There was no save point in the game. Or it not in any menu

Let me start off by saying that I’ve never played a DQ game before and have never been a fan of Minecraft, I’ve tried Minecraft a couple of times but just couldn’t get into it.

The original came out in 2016, and I heard nothing about it. I wasn't really into Dragon Quest, and of course people kept mentioning minecraft about the game. I will admit, I am also not into minecraft! The guy at the store however was passionate about the game, and reviews started coming out about how fantastic it is, and that for some it was their Game of The Year.
So I bought it. I bought it, and I didn't regret it! I loved it on the ps4! The graphics are fantastic, and the building techniques and gathering supplies is unique and fun! The combat is simple, yet intriguing and the overall gameplay invites you to explore and you will want to explore! I never had a dull moment, and I recommend trying out the switch demo! I am buying this on the switch, and I am pumped to hear that you can ride a sabrecat (I got into Dragon Quest after this game)! There are blueprints for you to follow designs given to you by villagers in the game, you can design your own, gather armor and weapons (make them with resources), and there is a story to it as well! You can also go into terra incognita to build whatever you want with the resources you had in the story (so keep exploring).
Play the demo, and I highly recommend it. It is very fun to play on the switch both not on TV and on TV (graphics are minimal change when switching between the two). The switch has exclusive items and features (old school game resources to make it look pixelated, ride a sabrecat), and FYI there is a sequel coming for this game as well. Some are turned away because each chapter you start with a blank slate, however each chapter provides new resources for new situations! You don't want to keep using the same hammer over and over for all chapters, you want to use the one they show you and how it benefits you in the new area.
Get it. It is a fun, and surprising journey!

I've played Dragon Quest games in the past and was really looking forward to this game coming to the Nintendo Switch! I had never played a lot of Minecraft and I couldn't really get into the game, but Dragon Quest Builders made things seem a lot more simple and fun!
I spent over 45 hours on the first level just building for fun until I realized that I had objectives to reach. I just enjoyed the free-building so much that I couldn't stop. After a while though, I was sucked into the story and I really enjoyed it. It's nothing too in depth and sometimes there can be a lot of text to read, but overall it's very enjoyable.
I think for any fans of Minecraft or adventure games--this is a must play. It's been out for a few years but the portability of the Nintendo Switch really made me wait to get it on this platform. This is just a very enjoyable game and I'm already looking forward to the second game coming out very soon!

First Dragon Quest game ever for me. Downloaded the demo, started playing, and I was hooked for 3 hours! The end of the demo was a great cliff-hanger that makes me anxious to play the full game!
And I'm in my 30's!
