Customers are saying

Customers value the fun gameplay, engaging story, and satisfying building mechanics in Dragon Quest Builders. Many appreciate the game's charming art style, nostalgic music, and the substantial amount of content available. The crafting and exploration elements are also frequently praised. While some find the game not very challenging, the positive feedback on other aspects outweighs this concern.

With returning music scores from earlier games and character designs from Akira Toriyama, the game not only gives you lots of nostalgia, it’s very colorful and feels just so right to be a Dragon Quest game. While they are undeniably similar on a surface level, it does Dragon Quest Builders a disservice to compare it to games like Minecraft – it has more in common with its RPG predecessors than anything else. Like any role-playing game, you can go through the story in mere days and be done but because the game offers so much to do, why not take a seat back and have fun building! - See more at: http://playstationwire.com/2017/01/08/review-dragon-quest-builders/

Dragon Quest is one of the oldest and most venerable franchises in the world. While that is a definite feather in it's cap, it also comes with some baggage in the form of occasionally overused traditions of gameplay and storytelling. Here we see Square Enix trying something new, creating a mashup of DQ lore and monsters with sandbox gameplay reminiscent of Minecraft and other games in that vein. It's a fun throwback to the original DQ, with an early reference to that game's 'choice' of endings. I haven't finished it yet, but I can say that it's a fairly well balanced mix of it's disparate parts and that it's a definite pleasure to see Square Enix continue to mix up classic franchises in new ways. If you like DQ or Minecraft, I would definitely recommend this game, however if you have problems with either, you might want to try the demo first. Happy gaming!

I bought this game for my girlfriend. She loves games where you build things and farm. She builds towns and fights monsters. I really like the artstyle.

A fun building game with RPG elements, including bosses to fight and quests to complete. The campaign is broken up into four separate chapters (start fresh in each one; your progress does not carry forward) with a free-building mode once you complete the first chapter. Buildings you create (up to a certain size) can be shared with other players online but that is the extent of the multiplayer element. Overall, a surprisingly fun game that is a joy to play. One of my favorite games this year.

I was not a believer in this game until a friend let me borrow it for a weekend. I don't think I stopped playing that whole time and immediately purchased a new copy when the week started. Fist and foremost, this is a Dragon Quest game with elements similar to Minecraft. I've played Minecraft, Terraria, and other games like them, but this approach to build/craft-style gameplay is the best I've ever experienced. Play the demo if you can - the game is excellent!

Honestly, it's essentially a Minecraft game with Dragon Quest themed ideas, and that's not a bad thing. It has a ton of hours of content to be gone through, plenty of variety and a free-build mode that will give people of all ages a great amount of satisfaction. The only drawback is that it is not truly multiplayer, but the charm and aesthetic that the game gives can really help make up for that, especially since you can see other people's creations in the free-build mode. Overall, definitely worth checking out.

It's Minecraft meets Dragon Quest. The game is sandbox-like, where you take on mini quests that involve building structures, fetch quests, defending territory, and other standard gaming fare. The game is set in the world of the original Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior, from the days of the MSX and Famicom/NES.

Somewhat of a Minecraft-like game, Dragon Quest Builders is fun and enjoyable. Each chapter is replayable without having to restart the whole game. My daughter, wife, and I have all enjoyed playing this game. It presents as a story driven alternative to other sandbox building games with a bit of humor and familiar scenery for players who have enjoyed the franchise.

Bought this game for the kids to play after reading unexpectedly good reviews. Both kids are huge into Minecraft but have no Dragon Quest experience. They both love the game. As others have said, kind of like Minecraft with an addition of quests. Both kids have been addicted to it, and have expressed interest in the Dragon Quest series in the future.

Dragon Quest Builders is a very well done Minecraft "clone". However, even though the gameplay is very similar it has a lot going for it as its own thing. One of the main things that separate this from Minecraft is the story mode. While the story itself isn't very engaging, the objectives that the game gives you puts a focus on things. If you lack direction when playing Minecraft or any other building/survival type game this might be more up your alley.

I took a chance in buying this because I see a lot of comparisons to mine craft which I don't really care for. However, It's a lot different than minecraft because you have a linear story to guide you through the chapters in the game. So I get the building of minecraft but I get a story to progress and move things along to an actual ending.

Dragon Warrior Motiff + Minecraft elements with a very good tutorial = this game. The DW lore is not necessarily for everyone and some may be burned out by Minecraft. A 2nd game is out (or will be out soon), so you may want to check out if that one has improvements over this one that you can't live without.

I wasn't sure about this Dragon Quest since it wasn't the normal style. However I played the demo and though it was interesting and so I decided to pick it up. As I played it more I found my self enjoying it more and more and having a lot of fun trying to figure how to build different things.

I love that this game has rpg elements mixed with the building aspect. They infused a good story line with the tasks and some combat as well. I never really liked minecraft, but this game was a great mix of things that made it fun with tons of replay value.
