Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the fun gameplay, engaging story, and portability of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, particularly praising the enhanced content and voice acting in this version. While some players missed the original orchestrated music from previous releases, many appreciated the removal of random encounters. The 3DS port is considered a success by many players.

Experience Dragon Quest VIII ((on Nintendo) 3DS)

It's a shame that Dragon Quest XI (3DS) isn't releasing in America. Square Enix did, thankfully, release Dragon Quest VIII (3DS) in the US. This is certainly the best Dragon Quest localized for Americans on the Nintendo 3DS. Experience the essence of the Dragon Quest series in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King.

The Dragon Quest series of games is possibly my favorite RPG series. Yes. More than that ironically named neverending series. I need more fantasy in my life and less guy trips in a convertible. Square Enix did a wonderful job of porting the original to the 3DS, but the added playable characters make it even more worthwhile.

I played Dragon Quest VIII when it originally released on the PS2, and it wowed me back then with its open world, lovable characters, and excellent gameplay. Fast forward to now, and I'm rediscovering this classic all over again. This is essential for any Dragon Quest fan, and definitely worth a look for any JRPG fan!

This is one of the best JRPG available here in the states, and it is my favorite Dragon Quest Game. Great game for a first timer to the series. Play this game if you are looking for a great JRPG but want something more open world and 3D looking than the standard 8/16-bit style of the older consoles.

This is a great title - one that I spent more than 100 hours playing on the Playstation 2. The move to the 3DS provides portability, but loses the fantastic voice work and compromises the music and graphics slightly. Still, it's a great title and one that any fan of RPGs should play.

Square Enix did a great job porting this over to the 3DS. This is my favorite of the series. Super fun turn based RPG that has a great story, fantastic music, interesting characters, and an excellent combat system, The only this missing is the 3D effect. There is no use of 3D whatsoever.

I played DQ8 when it first came out on PS2, and this is a great update to an already great game. The only real drawback is the lack of the orchestral soundtrack, but the QOL features like replacing random encounters with on screen enemies and the new characters more than make up for it.

This game is a classic, and improves on DQ VII in nearly every way (you don't need to play the previous games, the story is a stand alone).

It's debatable for some, but Dragon Quest VIII is one of the best in all of the Dragon Quest series. Now it's available on-the-go with controls best suited for such a game. The characters, the story, and the game play all serve to provider you with many hours of terrific JRPG fun.

Dragon Quest games are great for the old school RPG fans. Each one has a different flavor of the same thing to offer. If you wished Final Fantasy would have kept things simple, this is the series for you, with this title being possibly the most accessible.

The Dragon Quest games by now are JRPG comfort food: a solid combat system, great music, charming visuals and a good story. If you play RPGs in general, it's worth getting even if you played the original PS2 release.

This game is a great way to enter the world Dragon Quest if you've never played the series before. Even though the title says "VIII" (8), this game goes back to the beginning of the overall main storyline. For those familiar with the PS2 version back in 2005, there is expanded content and new features! For one, you can save anywhere as opposed to certain "save locations." Another new feature is the ability to speed up battles for quicker grinding if you choose to do so. In the 3DS version only, you can take photos (screen captures) during play of anything outside of battles, like scenery, your party, etc. This version has more story, side quests, and more areas to explore as well, again if you've played the previous PS2 version. Alright newcomers & experienced players of the Dragon Quest series, buy it, play it, and you'll enjoy it!

This is as much of a Dragon Quest game as possible, but it'll feel completely different if you're used to the other DS/3DS Dragon Quest games. This may be a port of a PS2 game, but still holds up well thanks to a few tweaks and changes.

I wasn't sure that this port of DQ VIII would live up to expectations after the fantastic DQ VII, but it has done so, and more. This is very much a game for JRPG fans, but even more casual gamers may get some good mileage out of it.

This was bought for my son. We had originally played this game on the PS2. It was awesome then and it is awesome now. It includes a couple of updates to the game. If you like old school turn based rpg's you will like this.

I really like this series of games. They are interesting to play and loads of fun. The music and graphics are great. You can turn down the sound for the effects and music if you like. So far I'm having a blast playing.
