DYSON HAS MADE THE FAN A COOL CONCEPT. I'VE ALWAYS POSSESSED A RATHER DEEP INTEREST IN SCIENCE AND A RATHER CREATIVE IMAGINATION. EVEN SO, I HAD NOT IMAGINED THAT ONE DAY THERE WOULD BE A FAN THAT ACTUALLY OPERATES AS THE DYSON AM08 DOES, AND THE FACT THAT I NOW OWN IT KIND OF BLOWS ME AWAY. IT HAS A TINY REMOTE CONTROL, WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY THE SIZE OF A BASIC CELL-PHONE BATTERY, AND DYSON EVEN GAVE CONSIDERATION OF BEING ABLE TO ATTACH IT MAGNETICALLY TO THE FAN. THIS IS ONE GOOD WAY TO PREVENT THE LIKELY OCCURRENCE OF SUCH A TINY REMOTE FROM BECOMING EASILY LOST OR ACCIDENTALLY BROKEN, ETC. IT IS, ALSO, A CONVENIENT WAY OF KNOWING WHERE YOU HAD LAST LEFT THE REMOTE. EVIDENTLY, HIGH TECHNOLOGY OFTEN EQUALS HIGH PRICING, AND, WHILE YOU SAVE ON THE COST OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION, THE PRICING OF ALL SUCH DYSON FANS IS NOTHING LESS THAN EXORBITANT. IT'S NOT AS IF IT FUNCTIONED AS AN AIR-CONDITIONER. IF IT DID, I THINK EVERYONE WOULD AGREE THAT THE COST IS MORE THAN REASONABLE. HOWEVER, YOU MUST AGREE THAT IF YOU HAVE A CHILD OR A PET, OR VALUE YOUR OWN FINGERS, THE SAFETY ASPECTS OFFERRED BY A BLADELESS FAN IS POSITIVELY PRICELESS. EVEN SO, UNDERSTANDABLY, THE CUSTOMER NEEDS THE ABILITY TO AFFORD THIS EXPENSIVE INVESTMENT. A PLUS WORTHY OF MENTION IS, COMPARED TO THEIR PREDESSORS, THE NEWER MODELS RUN QUIETLY AND SMOOTHLY. I HOPE MANY CUSTOMERS WILL DESIRE TO AND BE ABLE TO PURCHASE THIS COOL INVENTION, AND, IF ENOUGH CONSUMERS DO SO, THE EXORBITANT PRICE SHOULD EVENTUALLY BECOME LESS EXPENSIVE. Long Term Usage Review

While very beautiful, it is a bit loud and it doesn't blow nearly as good as a fifteen or twenty dollar oscillating fan. It is also quite a bit louder than a cheap fan. This is, of course, with me buying the model that was "40% more quiet" than the previous version. Now for what you should expect with your $440 fan.... Every couple of weeks you will have to vacuum the little holes around the base of the fan, where it sucks in the air. Dyson recommends that you do this with a brush. But if you do that... you will undoubtedly shove some of that dust inside the fan. You will also need to vacuum and wipe down the loop. And be prepared for there to still be 'dust lines', on the flat part of the loop, after you have cleaned it. I guess this is because the plastic is so porous. Even if you stay on top of the dust... your fan will still eventually clog up. This happens because the slit in the loop that the air comes out of is designed to 'catch' dust. There is a reinforcement tab every inch. This catches dust, and will slowly build over time. Dyson recommends that you simply take a brush and get it out. But things aren't that easy. I had to take a screwdriver and wedge it in the slit to pry it up and then take a paperclip to dig out the dust. Two hours later, my $440 fan would finally blow air again. All I can say is... You Have Been Warned.

The AM08 also includes a 2 year Dyson warranty, when purchased new and from an authorized Dyson retailer. When cleaning the AM08, or any of our other Fans / Fan Heaters, we recommend using a brush attachment on your Dyson vacuum, which will not only brush the dust/debris but will also suction it into the vacuum rather than the fan. For cleaning the loop of the machine, we recommend using a clean dry cloth as this would be sufficient to remove the dust from the loop area. AM08 is up to 30% quieter than our previous AM03 pedestal fan. Noise is not only about decibel level but about the quality of the noise being produced. We have a team of sound engineers that work hard on identifying certain frequencies that seem to bother most people.
