More of a personal heater

I turned it on for an hour and really didn't feel a difference. It's not designed to heat a room. If you're sitting on the couch and it pointing directly at you, then it will take the chill off. It has a lot of nice features, temp control, oscillating, small and easy to move around, and the timer is nice. There is no wow factor which i expected for the price, i was extremely disappointed. You'll probably get better results heating a room with a $30.00 space heater. To sum it up, it's a personal heater, not designed to heat a room by any means.

Not what I expected

Even with the highest setting for the fan , it is not strong enough to reach you to cool. It has to be close to me to appreciate the air flow. For the heater, it blows up my fuse every time. If you have a lot of appliance plugged in, it creates a short, tripping you circuit breaker. The heater function is ok after awhile to warm up the air in the room. Too pricey for the minimal benefits you pay for.

The AM09 is rated at 1500W when on heat mode which is comparable to other heaters on the market.

Loved it for 2 years

Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This was the best fan and heater for about 1 year... this thing worked perfectly...then shortly after the 1 year warranty I started to get an H2 error... read about it and the little I could find said it needed cleaned.. we always have blown it out with compressed air and there are no other instructions on cleaning ....the compressed air paused the H2 error but it still came back....now after 2 years of use and out of our pocket $475 it works for about 30 seconds and then H2 error ..... this is ridiculous and I would never expect to pay so much for a product to only last 2 years.... not sure I would purchase a dyson product again...

It does look cool but I just couldn't bring myself to keep it for the price especially when other heaters do a better job. There are may items I have around my house that I have paid more than they are worth just because they are cool or unique, but this one didn't make the cut. Other people had made this exact statement and I had to witness it for myself. As a heater, it was OK. As a cooling device, I didn't get a chance to eval since it was not needed.

Nice, but way overpriced.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.It does have major techno-coolness (no pun intended), but it's somewhat louder than I would have thought. The ability to control speeds and narrow vs. wide air movement is nice, plus the back/forth movement (continuous) and up/down adjustment (fixed) are also good features. We haven't tried the heat yet, as it has been way too hot, nor have we used the timer feature. I guess you're mostly paying for the Dyson name, but as a practical air mover it really doesn't do that much better than conventional bladed fans. Sorry, Dyson, it's just not that great - especially for the money.

great while it worked

Dyson was good with sending me a replacement under warranty. only issue is that the replacement only comes with the remaider 10 month warranty since they honor 2 year warranty. so if this craps out after 11 months again i am left with nothing. wouldnt repurchase a dyson heater again, i have 40 dollar heaters that have lasted over 5 years.

The heater has a setting up to 90 degrees however it was directly in front of me and didn’t feel very warm at all. Also, Best Buy’s description is wrong as this is 1500W not 150W so you might blow a breaker.

Dyson AM09 has been acoustically tuned, with streamlined air channels for reduced turbulence. Dyson AM09 is 75% quieter than our previous generation, resulting in the ability to heat or cool you, without disturbing sleep.
Thanks to the heater and fan design of AM09, Dyson AM09 fan heaters are great for use in both winter, as well as in summer. I can also confirm, unlike an AC unit that is designed to chill the air, our air multiplier line consists of blade-less fans. They are designed with a powerful airflow to provide you with a powerful steady stream of smooth air. As a result, the air temperature does not change, instead it's the air flow which is designed to cool you. The air provided is consistent and smooth, similar to a powerful breeze of air. This differs from bladed fans, which result in buffeting and provide choppy air. Each of the machines will also have the option of increasing the speed of the air expelled from the machine, which is adjusted with the remote control.

Fan output is weak even when you choose direct airflow as opposed to defused. Haven’t tried heater for than a few minutes just to make sure it gets hot. I’m keeping it because I fought hard with the family to get this $350 fan. It still looks kewl though (as I wipe my forehead).

Unlike your traditional fan, the Dyson AM09 generates a high-velocity jet of air that exits the loop amplifier and creates an area of low pressure that draws in air from behind the fan. As the jet of air leaves the front of the loop amplifier more air is drawn in from the surroundings due to ‘viscous shearing’, amplifying the initial airflow even further providing you with cool air.

It was ok in a small room but didn't really make a big difference in a 12'X15' room after 6 hours straight. Haven't used the cooling but was not impressed with the heating. For the price I expected more. We have less expensive Dr Infrared Heater that was much better.

Pricey for what you get

Not that quiet either and isn't much better at heating. I had a 12x12 room that took about 30 minutes to heat up during the winter and my previous $100 heater did the same thing. Ended up returning it.

The only reason we decided to keep it is for the baby as it is fanless. If the fanless feature isn't a big thing for you, then go with those $20 fans or heaters.

However, I purchased this in hope of having both a fan and a heater. The heater does not perform as I expected and not worth the price. However the fan part works as intended.

Posted .Hi Ronnie. Thank you for taking the time to provide a review on the AM09. In order for the AM09 to operate as a heater, it will need to be set to a temperature that is above the rooms temperature. It will continue to heat the room until the temperature has been reached.

Posted .Hello Sue, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've been disappointed with your AM09 Fan + Heater, thus far in your use. I'm happy to inform you Dyson AM09 will have a few features which are worth noting as it relates to heating mode. To begin with, the heater will need to be set above the current room temperature in order for your machine to function at its optimal performance, as it will go into a standby mode as it reads the room temperature, awaiting the temperature reading to drop below what it has been set to. Also, your machine will work with two airflow modes, as part of Dyson Jet Focus technology. This will allow you to set your unit to blow out in a diffused mode for whole room use or focused mode for personal heating. Dyson AM09 will also will have an air flow control which will increase the speed of the air expelled from the machine, this can be adjusted with the remote control. You will have power settings ranging from 1-10. If using in cool mode, the fan airflow speed can be changed, but a target temperature cannot be set in cool mode, like while using heat mode. The fan won't cool like an AC unit would, as there is no freon in our air multiplier units.
