I ordered this tool as an additional tool to the ones that my Vacuum Came with (plenty of tools). This one is convenient to clean carpeted surfaces or floor mats. Convenient to get tougher dirt out.

sometimes you need a bit more aggressive attack on the surface, and that is where this stiff brush really helps. It is a bit pricey for a single attachment, but when the dog comes in with unsuspected dirt on the paws, this is the perfect fix. I love the Dyson "animal" DC59 and this really rounds out the limited number of attachments that came with that vacuum.

This should be part of Dyson vacuums for the amount you pay. However, the item works well.

This is a stiff bristle brush. It's good for scrubbing something with (dry of course). The space in the bristles and location of the suction vent mean that if you try sucking up pieces on a hard surface they wil go flying instead of up the vacuum. I usually use it on carpet, and then it works great. It works well for how I use it on hard surfaces too, I just expect it to make the mess a little larger before I suck it up.
