Still holds up after all these years. Yes, there is some of the 70s schlock, like soap-opera plot lines, overacting, and what are now considered stereotype characters. But it is still suspenseful and entertaining. The special effects remain impressive, especially considering they involve physical models since they had no CGI. A few are cheesy, but that's okay. I remember seeing it in Sensurround in the theater, which involved installing extra subwoofers for enhanced low frequency rumble, which is just what you need with an earthquake movie, right? Well, it was a mildly amusing gimmick in the theater, and not very convincing. You don't miss it here. And, it's good to see many stars in their earlier years, although Ava Gardner looked old and stretched. Her overly dramatic acting didn't help, either, considering hers was not a very likable character to begin with. In many ways, Earthquake helped set the stage for more modern epic disaster movies, so it is well worth seeing to get some perspective on how this genre has evolved.

This movie is interesting and features a lot of well known starts of it's era.

I had this in vhs format. Unfortunately it did not make the move. I have been looking and looking for this in dvd format and was so glad to see it on the Best Buy website. Charleton Heston is great as are all the other familiar (now gone) actors and actresses. The special effects are still so real, I wonder how they would be with the more modern special effects now available. The storyline is so real as this could actually happen. Actually some minor earthquakes have already happened.

It's been awhile since I've seen this and it didn't disappoint. Lots of stars (highlighted by Charlton Heston and Lorne Greene) in Los Angeles when the big one hits. Along the same lines as The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure. My only wish wouldv'e been some special features, but I'm guessing they didn't really have much to add.

With todays lack of quality movies Earthquake is one of the diamonds in the rough. I love the disaster movies of old, and couldn't wait to get my hands on this. Unfortunately, I had to because it was not available at my local BestBuy store. I still managed to get it from BestBuy Online, and I have not been dissatisfied at all with this purchase. I'm just waiting for The Towering Inferno to come out on Blu-Ray. That will definitely be a must buy; and if it does come out I hope they will supply the stores with it.

The special effects look a little corny today, but they were pretty good for the 70s, with the budget that it was given. Good cast and entertaining movie.

If you like old movies add this one to your MUST SEE LIST. Exceptional action movie

It's an old school disaster film with pretty good special effects for the time frame that it was in.
