These switches look awesome and do everything my other Alexa devices can do. The speaker isn't very large and it doesn't always hear me. The night light built into it is cool and can be turned on and off via the app. For the price it should do dimming but it doesn't. I would by 10 more if they came with dimming. Cool switch otherwise!

This swittch integrates seemlessly with SmartThings. I also like how the wires are connected to the back of the switch which you can connect with wire nuts to in the gang box. This is different than the GE smart switches that you have to connect lengths of wire to the back of the switch yourself. The switch itself is quite thick, so be careful not to break the box when you install it.

A perfect smart switch that also has a link/integration with Alexa. I dont need to buy an alexa echo device on a room just to control over voice. This comes handy and does the job perfectly. Easy to install, believe me, i am not an electrician nor who knows about these. This is also a DIY smart home tool that with the perfect instructions and setup, its finished within 20 mins.

Before you buy, you need to make sure that use of this switch is for a light that is solely controlled by one switch (no 3 way switch) and you need to have a neutral wire. You also need to be comfortable with household electrical work or call an electrician. Wiring of the ecobee Switch+ was straightforward. Once you confirm you have the correct wiring in your walls, follow proper electrical and safety codes to install the Switch+. You can immediately check your work (after restoring power to the switch) by clicking the button to confirm your light turns on. I have amassed several smart home products but this was my first jaunt into the ecobee ecosystem. One of my pet peeves is having to install yet another app on my phone to control a new product. Disappointingly, this product proved no different. Initial setup of this product was frustrating. I attempted to setup the Switch+ with the ecobee app at least 6 times where the app crashed twice, couldn't connect to my wireless, or wouldn't see the Switch+ device. I became very familiar with the sequence to factory reset the Switch+. At one point the app froze while trying to determine my address. I closed the app and re-opened and finally was able to control the switch with my phone. Luckily, setting up with Amazon Alexa was simpler. Unfortunately, it doesn't have all the features of the Echo Dot. Two features that are missing are the ability to change the trigger word and bluetooth connectivity. With my Echo Dot, I had to change the trigger word because 'Alexa' was being triggered because my daughter's name is somewhat close to 'Alexa'. At the time, we also found out that my youngest couldn't trigger 'Alexa', so we changed the trigger word to 'Computer'. My wife and I have fun with the 'Computer' trigger word since we are sci-fi fans. When I ordered my Switch+ I had a strong desire to set it up so that I could say "Computer...Light On". Alas, I cannot do this out of the box. The option to change the trigger word doesn't appear in the Alexa for this device. To get closer to my desire, I set my Echo dot in the same room and can trigger with "Computer...Kitchen Light On". While the speaker on the switch+ is great for interacting with Alexa, I would like to connect it to a bluetooth speaker for music. This option is also absent from the Alexa app. The Switch+ does have 3 other features that I find nice and well thought out. The first is a motion detect for turning on the light. The second is use of the lack of motion to turn off the light. The third is the built-in night light. Due to the placement of the switch+ in my home, I only use the lack of motion to turn off the light feature. I would probably use the night light feature in my upstairs hallway if this switch made sense there. I have also connected the switch function to my Google Home Mini and to Samsung SmartThings and it all works well. The switch itself works well. There is a slight delay in response, but perfectly functional. The switch looks nice. While I was disappointed with the ecobee setup process, I could overlook it if the Switch+ had the same functionality of the Echo Dot. If ecobee could get that figured out, I would easily swap out several single pole switches throughout my house to this. My house is set up with several 3 way switches. If the next version of the Switch+ could support 3 way switch function, I would be very tempted to overlook the shortcomings and change most of my switches.

GREAT PRODUCT! Adding alexa to my kids room while making sure the light goes off after 30 minutes of inactivity should help reduce the electric bill. I love that its in the middle of the room and never blocked so its able to hear from any area in the room. Catching the item on sale made it even more enjoyable.

I got it on sale and its totally worth it when its compare to other dim motion sensors only. When it's priced 80 not really worth it. Alexa mic works great, switch illumination works great. FW upgrade added more customizable options for sensor and light - and it's ecobee product -I totally trust the quality.

it came bundled free with my thermostat otherwise I doubt I would have spent $80 on this but it is great it combines a nightlight, echo dot and smart switch into a nice little package, that being said those three items separately could be had for around $60 and this is $80.

Love having Alexa in a light switch. I use this for turning on my carport lights when I arrive home. It’s also great to have an Echo built into the light switch so I can listen to music and add to the grocery list while doing laundry and other tasks in my utility room.

This past holiday season, I gave in to my curiosity to see what all the hoopla over “Alexa” was all about. Fast forward 6 months and I now have 3 Alexa enabled speakers in my home and quite a few Alexa compatible devices including light switches, thermostats and sprinkler system! The whole family uses it, the kids asks Alexa to tell them a joke, sing the technology song the time, weather, you name it, they ask Alexa! So when the opportunity to test out the new ecobee enabled light switch, I thought we’d be the perfect family to test it. At first, I couldn’t understand what it was, I thought it was another smart switch that’s compatible with Alexa. I was surprised to learn it was a Alexa assistant built into a light switch form factor! This is genius, the full power of Alexa with the subtle packaging of a common switch! The installation was the easy part, as long as you have a common wire (white wire). A total of 4 wires had to be connected, then you’re in business! The pairing mode was the most troublesome part for me, the app would detect my WiFi, but got hung up when it tried to configure the switch. I reseted the ecobee switch 2x and tried again, I finally got it to work. The switch has a few convenience features built in, such as night light, motion activated, occupancy sensor. But the main feature your buying this for is the Alexa! Alexa worked very well in my tests, the speaker was loud and clear. I don’t think music would sound good on it, but for speech, it’s very good. While it’s a great idea and executed very well, there are a few drawbacks. I noticed the microphone doesn’t seem as sensitive as the Echo’s I have. I’m sitting approximately 5’ away from the switch, but it seems like I have to speak louder then normal, borderline shouting to get the ecobee to respond. Intercom or drop in feature is not supported. This was one of the main features I wanted the switch for. I figure I can get my kids to come down for dinner when they’re upstairs with this drop in feature. But unfortunately it’s not supported. I hope this will be supported by the ecobee in the future. Although I don’t have an ecobee smart thermostat, the temperature feature is not yet available. Dimming would’ve been a nice feature to have. Overall, this is a nicely package Alexa device with a few drawbacks. It’s functional and aesthetically pleasing. The alternative is having hockey pucks mounted around your home, no thanks! This is a nice start, hope it’s improved upon.

Great concept with some areas for improvement!

The Ecobee Switch+ is a great concept and I look forward to seeing future improvements on the device. Things I like: - Very easy installation process. If you download the Ecobee app, there are videos and step by step instructions that are very easy to follow. It took me about 20 minutes to install and I'm not the most savvy in this area of expertise. - Great look out of the box as well as on my wall. It looks as if it was always there and is nice an snug against the wall without any indications of not fitting in the place it was installed. - Nice way to have an Alexa installed device in your room without having to worry about placing on a shelf, plugging into an outlet etc. Also works as a motion sensor light and seems to be pretty sensitive to motion. Would come on as I walk into the room where the Switch+ is installed. - Also has a nice nightlight option that can be turned off if preferred. - Will be a great way to measure temperature and motion once connected to an Ecobee thermostat (when this option is enabled in the near future). - I like the improvements to the Ecobee app through my Android device. It's very easy to control the Switch+ through the app and I like how you can now see all temperature room sensors in 1 screen. So that you can see what the temperature is across the house without having to click on each sensor individually. Once the Switch+ is working to measure temperature, I can see this feature being really good. - Has a preset timer that you can program through the app to turn off after a specified time frame. Things I don't like that I hope they improve on: - Currently the Switch+ isn't designed to be installed on the same switch as a ceiling fan. Originally I had mine installed on the same switch as my Master bedroom ceiling fan. I noticed after installing IFTTT on my phone that the light was coming on during times when no one was around and no one had remotely requested it to. After doing further research with costumer support, we concluded that the issue was due to it being installed on the same switch as my ceiling fan. They advised that this could be creating additional heat that would make the sensor think someone was in the room and advised for me to move to a different location to avoid damaging the Switch+. After I moved it, this issue seem to be resolved. - The Switch+ can't be installed on a 2 way or 3 way switch. Between not being able to install on the same switch as a ceiling fan and not being able to install on a 2 way or 3 way switch, this really limited the options I had available to install it. - Doesn't work well with a Mesh Wi-Fi signal. I had a hard time trying to get the Switch+ to connect to my Wi-Fi and after much trouble shooting with Ecobee support, I was finally advised that it could be due to having more than 1 router connected to my Wi-Fi which was making it bounce back in forth between routers. After I disabled 1 router, I had no problem getting it to connect and so far this hasn't been an issue going forward after reconnecting the 2nd router. I believe this is just an issue for initial setup. Once you get the Switch+ connected to the router, it seems to be fine and so far I haven't had to try and reconnect it to my Wi-Fi. - Currently not Bluetooth ready and so you have to listen to music through the small speaker which isn't bad considering the size but could be a lot better with the option to connect to a separate speaker like the Dot allows. - Is currently setup with a setting that whenever the light is manually/remotely turned off and you come back into the room, the light won't go back on without turning back on manually/remotely for 15 minutes. In other words, if I request Alexa to turn off the light or I physically turn off the light and then go back into the room prior to 15 minutes going by, the light won't come on without asking Alexa or physically turning back on. I hope this setting is changed to allow you to disable as this can be a hassle if you have your hands full. Keep in mind, this setting doesn't happen when the light turns off by the timer (based on the time frame you preset). If the light has turned off automatically and then you walk into the room a second later, the light will come back on. - Would have hoped the temperature sensors would have been working before the launch. This was the main reason I was wanting to purchase the Switch+. I thought it would be a nice way to have the additional sensors in different rooms without having to be placed on a shelf or on the wall. Unfortunately this option isn't currently available but is supposed to be working in the near future. I was advised it should be working by the Summer time. So I guess we have to wait and see how well this feature works. My summary: This is my first Alexa ready device which has me looking into adding other items to my house that can be voice activated. I have very high expectations that Ecobee is going to take the right steps to improve on this concept and look forward to all the enhancements that will be coming in the near future. Although my list is long with things to be improved on, I feel that since this is the first design they have come out with that things are only going to get better as they began resolving some of these issues. So far customer support has been very helpful and have indicated that they are taking all of our concerns and suggestions into consideration and are trying to address them. As the issues of concern are addressed, I will try to do my best to update my post and will hopefully see my 4 star review turn into a 5 star review.
