This set encompasses historical visual and aural records of one of the most amazing times in the pop/rock and roll music world. Many reviews have mentioned the Anthology series as the go-to account of the Beatles effect on the music world. The Anthology is great as well; however, this set is an updated and compact evaluation of the story including things not available in the Anthology series and the latest in visual and sound enhancement capabilities. This deluxe version includes 5 restored live performances by the band which alone is worth the price of the set. Whether you are an avid fan or a casual listener to the Beatles this set is sure to please a wide variety of the populace.

    Early Beatles designed for everyone

A lot of young listeners just hear processed music. Many have probably never heard the Beatles, or if they did, they just thought of them as a bunch of old guys, half of them dead. The raw power of real talent performing without earplugs or in some casing without being able to hear each other is a real ideal of what a fantastic group can do. Can you imagine having to do 3 part harmony at Shea Stadium and not being able to hear the guy playing next to you due to the fans screaming for the entire concert? They did it, and proved why the should always be heard and remembered. This excellent 2 disc set shows The Beatles the way those of us who lived through their rise remember them. It shows the talent, the sweat, some of the problems. But it is worth owning for the music and for the honest portrayal of a singular music group.

I am a fan for 50+ years. Between what I own, have seen or read, I honestly did not expect much new material. Nevertheless, I felt compelled to buy this. I already owned the standard dvd. When I purchased a blue ray system, I had to buy the deluxe version. If for nothing else, the bonus disk material was worth the purchase. There is a quite a bit of new material that I have never seen. The sound quality really blew me away. I could actually hear all the live performances, which was basically everything. Considering that they operated as The Beatles for only a few years, it is nothing short of amazing. If anyone is still wondering what all the fuss about the Beatles is 50+ years in, this package explains it all. They are truly a timeless phenomena.

A Specific Look at a Specific Time

The latest Beatles documentary looks at a very specific time, from right before they invaded America until they stopped touring (and a little beyond, actually). While familiar, it does cover some new ground. Concentrating on the spiraling media circus surrounding the Beatles phenomenon, it does a good job of showing how it became less fun over time, starting out great and turning first into a chore and then a dangerous situation. Technically, film and video was gathered from all over the world for this documentary and it is an impressive achievement, aged media looking and sounding good in the Blu Ray age. This story has been told before but not this concise, and hearing from people outside the Beatles camp - reporters, spectators, and even roadies - was perhaps the best part. The two disc version has some really nice special features on the second disc for a change. The original documentary must have been longer in scope, because there is a lot of material about the early Liverpool days of the band not covered in the main film. Besides five complete song performances there are a few other expanded short documentaries that were very nice, and the total time of the documentary is nearly double. Overall, a worthy purchase, but really aimed at the older nostalgia age group or casual Beatle fan.

I was 8 years old when the Beatles came to America, and I my childhood was dominated by listening to and studying their music. However, news and information was not as readily available in those days as it is today, so I was starved for more exposure to them. This documentary provides so much insight as to things that I missed. Of course, Ron Howard, never misses anything either. I was always intrigued at how they totally captured the world in just a few short months and this film helped me to understand it a little better. I totally enjoyed every minute of this film, especially the footage that I had never seen before.

Better than expected documentary of the incredible BEATLES ! Their music defined the decade I grew up in. Not much new information here .The Beatles have been documented more than any other band,BUT Ron Howard and his team have uncovered some never before seen together footage, conducted good interviews with the two surviving band members and Giles Martin did a killer job on bringing the music even more alive than its ever been. No small feet considering the limits of the concert recording equipment of the times. Now we have live recordings that can stand up to their studio work. Color this release essential.

This is a time capsule of the fab four and for the world, capturing the energy and feel of what it was like to be a Beatle on tour, the chosen images and concert clips are perfect and the sound blew me away especially considering the era and surrounding conditions (screaming fans) of each, Bittersweet knowing these four lads from Liverpool who here were so devoted and protective of each other would go on the achieve even more in the studio but would one day splinter, Well worth the journey, it will leave you with a smile.

I wish I can see FAB 4 in person again. Way back then, somewhere in the PHILIPPINES, me (I'm still 10 yrs old) and my siblings went to see them in concert but in vain we can only see them far, far, far away. Anyways, I have all their vinyl albums way back then. This is one of best music video. How I wish they can release also "LET IT BE" movie, been waiting for that for a long time. I have it in VHS. But can't find it anymore. As a BEATLE FAN all their music are great, my kids love it.

Great Documentary on The Beatles touring Day. when it came out in the movie Theater they had the shea stadium concert on the same bill as this movie. But sadly its not included in this Blu-ray it great to hear Ringo and Paul being interviewed about the touring years of the Beatles Glad they got Ron Howard to direct this movie because only he could have done a phenomenal job

I heard about this movie, but the movie was never shown in the local theaters. I had to pick up the blu-ray when it was released in that format, and I was not disappointed. The movie is a documentary that captures a period in the Beatles ear that was truly joyful. There is a quality about their early music that no other band could capture. If you are old enough to have lived at the time of this period in the band's career, you will love the concert footage. Must have for any true Beatles fan.

This is a fabulous movie about the Beatles and the years they performed live in concert. I have been a Beatles fan since 1984 and there was still more to learn about their live performances and everything that went on during their touring. This movie could have gone on for another 2-3 hours or more, but this gives you a great idea of what they went through. The bonus disc has some great footage and a lot more of their live performances. I would recommend this to anyone who likes the Beatles.

I was led to believe by reviews and product descriptions that the 2 disc version had complete live concerts on the 2nd disc, which is reasonable because actual Beatle concerts were usually 30 min. or less. like the album they were promoting. But NO, there are only short excerpts, some rudely interrupted with narration and some of the film clips are faded and not color corrected. How hard is it to color correct nowadays?? Not hard at all. The short scenes from the Shea stadium concert are excellent quality leaving you dying for the whole concert, but NO, just a few short minutes for you, most of which show the crowds, like we are paying $35 to see that garbage.5 secs. and we get it, you don't need to keep showing crowds. The interviews with the Beatles are of course good, but you know what? We would like to actually see the Beatles play. Who woulda guessed that?! Not Ron Howard & crew. Quite the mystery it is.

The greatest of all time prove once again, 50 years later, why. If you listen to how tight the harmonies and instruments play in front of the screaming fans with mini monitors to hear themselves, it's literally mind blowing. The level of artist and musician is unparalleled. So highly recommend this to everyone, not just Beatles' fans. It's tantamount to a live recording of Bach or Beethoven, absolute genius.

Although Ron Howard left a lot out of this documentary which would have 'completed the picture' of the Beatle's touring years, the material and interviews included by Howard were very moving and totally drew me into this film. I would highly recommend it to hard core Beatle fans as well as non fans who would like to know more about the group and this era in their career.

Giles Martin (producer of this remixed recording) has outdone himself AND the technology that originally recorded the concerts at the Hollywood Bowl back in both 1964 and 1965. Give it a critical listen, or even a comparison, on either a good sound system or download it into your cell phone for an intense experience of...Beatlemania! You won't forget the feeling.

This doc captures the madness around Beatlemania as the Beatles began their rise to fame and beyond. The concert footage is great and fun to watch. One downside is that if you’ve seen the Anthology series, a lot of the shows are exactly the same ones. You do get cleaner footage and new shots though. A must for any Beatles fan
