I heard about this game on a Podcast and picked up a used copy for a great price...it is probably a game I would never have given a second glance. I had fun with it immediately - using the stylus in time to the songs is great, especially with all of the men dancing and waving their arms around in the air. I appear to be at the end of the game which seems like it might have MANY songs that you must beat. If you don't beat one, it seems that you have to start over again from the first song in the section. This is still TBD. Regardless, this is a fun game to play when you need a pick-me-up, but not a game to be played where quiet is necessary (unless you have headphones!) A sequel would be good for this one!

Addictive DS title that really gives a beat!

Elite Beat Agents is familiar for most that played the Japanese version of this game (Called Ouendan). Like before, you are "helpers" that help others in succeeding their goals, whether it be a dog trying to get home from a 220 mile trip, or someone who has to practice their hardest to sing and dance in front of everyone to become a star. All of this depends on how good you play, and if you survive long enough to see the outcome! Gameplay is pretty simple. This game utilizes the entire touch screen all the time. You select which character to play after clearing others to move on, and this is where it all starts. The game starts off by a song, and you have to press the buttons at the right time when the outer circle reaches the circle just around the number. 3 types of this is dragging the indicated circle, pressing, and finally rotating a large circular disk that appears mostly at the end of the stages. Some buttons are even stacked upon one another, but all of these actions constitute to the beat of the music! (To see the list of music, look it up at google or the such.) Speaking of how well you do during the action, there's a meter that tells you if you're in a the good range or not. This meter continuously goes down, and the only way to boost it up is by successfully getting 100s (Ok) and 300s (Perfect!) on the buttons and such. If you're still in the red zone when a segment is about to play (Sequences), you will get a bad ending of that current sequence. If you get all 3 (Mostly 3, some are 2) sequences in bad endings, then you will get the bad ending of the entire character plot. Get an OK on one of them, and the ending is significantly better! Graphics are okay in this. It basically just shows the agents dancing on the bottom screen, where you're pressing or dragging, and the top part of the screen shows different frame by frame animation of the story. Depending on how you do in game, a missed action will cause a bad, yet funny, animation up above. If you're too focused on what you're doing on the bottom, you can always save your game on that character, then replay later in the options menu! Other than those 2, there's nothing else, except for this 3rd world you drag around to find your characters. This game relies heavily on its music beat, and cartoonish humor all around. Sound is given. They use music from various artists to use for different characters. The beats that you make if you do a perfect or miss are also there, with an occasional "YEAH!" if you get some of them on the right spot! Note that even if this game provides over 15 tracks of songs, the bitrate on them are very bad, given that they must pack it all into the DS cartridge. Still, it's great to listen to when playing this game and going by the beats! That's about it. And once you're done with normal mode, it unlocks Hard mode, and then the final mode for those still interested for a challenge! You won't regret buying this game if you're into DDR or the such!
