This movie takes us into the magical world of a shrinking kid, a nutty professor dad, and an insect view of a hidden world. The leading lady, M.K. finds herself magically shrunk to insect size where she meets a host of fanciful characters that are human, bugs, birds and well you'll have to find out. The movie is a tale of good versus evil, life and destruction of the natural world. the cast is a star studded cast of comedians, actors, and familiar pop singers. This movie is filled with laughs, spills, thrills, and the grandeur of CGI animation. the 3D version has a few nice pop out sequences that my kids enjoyed. the most important story that I liked was the ultmate conction the father and daughter were able to form by the end of the movie.

My partner and her daughter saw this movie last summer while I had to work, so we bought this for my daughter who was turning 5 years old this year. I think as a whole it might have been a little young for her but both me and my partner and her teenager enjoyed this movie. I thought the animation was spot on and that the story line fit well with the visual stimulation. While the story line was a typical good/evil archetype, it was presented very well here with the message that family comes first and that staying loyal to that family will win the day. Very entertaining and much better in my opinion that last year's blockbuster, Frozen.

Terrific addition to the genre of 'kids getting shrunk and entering a world of small people'. The animation is terrific, and it's not a bad story so both kids and adults will enjoy it. It does deal with the death of a parent right off the bat, and the bad guys are a little scary as well - so it might not be ideal for smaller children that are sensitive to that stuff. Otherwise, I enjoyed it enough after renting it to go and buy it and will watch it with my kids when they get a bit older!

My daughter asked me to take her to the theater to see the movie and I told her no because the previews did not do it justice. When I saw it at bestbuy for a fantastic price, I thought it was my chance for redemption. The movie is actually a touching father daughter movie that that is also full of action and the graphics are fantastic. My 16 year old son actually watched the movie after we did because he thought no one was watching. We called him Epic for a week.

Poor Blue Sky. Trying to roll with Pixar and Dreamworks and all I can say is, its very cute but they don't try too hard to be as good as their films. Ice Age was cute, but Robots, Ice Age 2-4, Rio 1 & 2 being fairly lackluster with my only favorite being Horton Hears a Who out of all those films. I thought that they have changed when they released Epic in theaters, but then I watched it. I liked it, thought it looked nice enough, some nice animation but then a growing sense of familiarity struck me. It kept growing and growing then I said, "This is Fern Gully!". It literally is, a shrunken hero (Gender reversed though with the girl being shrunken this time), forest setting, ecological based plot, animal friends and a good cast. Only difference is this is CG animation compared to 2D cel animation. Other than that, its an okay film, and only recommended for animation film fans or kids. The PQ is rather nice, going from digital format to digital format, retaining the detail and sharpness the film has, only in DVD format. The AQ is equally nice, but yet again, rendered down to DVD scale, but still active and lively. The extras are fairly mediocre with a few kid-based extras and a trailer rounding out the extras. Only buy if you want a modern day Fern Gully and if its $5-$10 and only then on 3D or 2D Blu Ray.

I would give this 3.5 stars, but had to round up. This is a good movie, but not a great one. Among the highest points for this movie are the visuals, and the movie is humorous, adventurous, and touching as well. If you are looking for plot holes, you'll find them, but overall the film works for even an adult like me. However the target audience is younger. Both my teen and preteen liked it, and younger kids should find it even more compelling.

Great movie, took my kids to see it in the theater (2 and 4 years old) and they sat through the entire movie. Bought it and it was just as good the 2nd time as when we first saw it. It's nice having the blu ray for back up and the dvd out so if the kids get ahold of it then it's no big deal. Digital copy is great for putting on the ipad when we go places to give the kids something to watch as well.

This was a cute movie for family movie night. The graphics were great and the characters well acted. The storyline was a little tired (think Ant Bully, The Borrowers) but it was just different enough to keep us watching. The younger the kiddos, the more enjoyable it would be. My 11 year old got a few laughs out of it and he's a hardcore mature rating video gamer so it must have some appeal.

I think I liked this movie more than my 6y.o. The digital cinematography is amazing and gorgeous. As I see it more and more I try to remember to look around at each scene and I find things that I have missed in the past. The slow motion hummingbirds are phenomenal. I do, though, recommend not letting kids under...say...5 watch it. The bad guys are a bit garish and could frighten a young kid.
