Customers are positive about the Home Cinema 4000's picture quality, ease of use, and quiet operation, with many praising its brightness and lens shift capabilities. However, customers are negative about its large size and the limitations of its HDR functionality. The 3D capabilities also received positive feedback. Overall, the projector receives high praise for its image quality and user-friendliness, despite some concerns regarding its physical dimensions and HDR performance.

Don’t be fooled into thinking this a true 4K projector. It is not. Will not display 4K content from my 4K sat receiver. Otherwise, a pretty good product. If I had it to do over, I’d spend slightly more money to buy a projector that is true 4K.

To note I tested this projector on an inflatable 14.5 foot screen outdoors.
This projector is AMAZING! I have instantly become the envy of my alotment. Set up was very easy. It has plenty of connections including HDMI and USB. The 4k picture is phenomenal and crystal clear. Dare I say better than any drive in iv'e ever been too. It's 2200 lumens so you should make sure it's dark outside when you fire it up (unless your indoors in a theater room). It's also very very large so ensure you have ample space to place it. If your going to do 3D make sure you order RF active glasses as they are not included. I never thought family movie night could be this fun. Also who doesn't want to play Halo or CoD on a 14 foot screen

To start off the packaging on this is done very well. There is a lot of styrofoam and other protection to keep the items all separated from each and safe. The box itself is about 26”X20”x10” and weighs about 30 lbs. In the box you get the Home Cinema 4000 Projector, a power cord, some HDMI clamps for supporting the HDMI cables, a remote with batteries, a CD Rom with user guide, and a Quick Setup Guide.
The set up for this is very easy. Much easier than expected. And the quick setup guide is very easy to follow. First step is where to place the projector. Either set it up so that its either level with the top or bottom of the screen and centered. There are other options if needed but this is the ideal location. If you cant have it level with the top of bottom of the screen due to your set up and space you can use the lens shift feature to get it aligned. This is explained it the next section. The next step is connecting your video sources, in my case this is my XBOX One S with HDR. Turn on the video source, then connect the power cord from the projector. Turn on the projector using the remote, or the device. You are now ready to set up the projector for your specific set up, settings, sources, etc.
Once the initial set up is complete its now onto setting the image to your liking. This is easily done by pressing the pattern button on the remote which will give you an image that helps you with the alignment. You then just adjust the feet on the front of the projector to get it aligned where you want it. Once aligned you can now focus the image by pressing the lens button on the remote and the left and right buttons to get it into focus. This same lens button also helps you adjust the size and the position of the image as well. If the image is good you are now all set up.
This projector is also 3D compatible. If you want to view 3D content you will need a 3D video compatible device as well as Epson 3D glasses. Epson has some compatible glasses if you want 3D, they are part # V12H548006. I personally am not into 3D anymore. I tried it a few times with a previous device, but its nice that this is 3D compatible.
For the sound set up it was not hard at all. We already have a receiver with external speakers so its as simple as connecting the receiver via HDMI to the projector and my XBOX One S. From here it on to enjoying Netflix HDR, Amazon Video, and of course HDR gaming as well. The remote is very nice with all the buttons laid out well, without overdoing it. The quality here is top notch. I am very happy with this projector and look forward to connecting more devices in the future such as the new XBOX One X when it releases. I cant only imagine how great content and gaming will look. If you are looking for a projector than this is is a great choice. Highly recommended. Thanks for reading.

Yes! Yes! Yes! HD quality on the entire wall! If you think you are in the projector market, take a quick minute to read this review, and I promise you will be much more inclined to make the switch from TV to projector. Going projector can be a big decision, and many of the same questions are wondered by us all…will the picture quality be comparable, how big can the screen be and still look good, is it like being at a movie theater? Well, lucky for you because I have all those answers and more. Let me just say, this Epson 4000, really delivered. I never experienced a home projector before, so I did what any sane person would do, get one!! I did this without researching how to install, where to install, or even if my room was big enough. My wife thought me crazy, but in the end, thanks to the flexibility and user friendly settings of this projector, it all worked out in the end. When installing, I had a ceiling fan in the middle of my ceiling, so I opted for a wall mount. I found a universal mount which worked perfectly. It turns out the stud placement only allowed me to mount it a foot off center. I was a little worried that this would cause a handful of headaches, however the unit has a remote controlled motorized lens which allowed the picture to be centered perfectly. In fact, the adjustments include up, down, left, right, zoom and some additional fine tuning to really get a perfectly centered picture looking great. I have an 18’ room and am able to have the screen size range from 50”- 180”. If you have a longer room, of course you can go bigger. Since I could go to 180”, obviously, I maxed it out!! Now that I jumped the hurdle of mounting and centering, I was ready to move on to the juicy stuff…picture quality. Because I have kids, the Trolls movie is perpetually loaded and it fired up. I must say this movie has a ton of bright colors, and the Epson 4000 did not disappoint. I really look for quality in products, and this picture delivers. I did go back to a 4k TV for comparison, and to be fair, the TV picture was a little more vibrant than the projector, but I don’t feel the detail sacrificed much. From Trolls, I moved to Pacific Rim. Again, the projector delivered a super picture quality. The large screen completely changed the experience of watching a movie at home. I now feel like I am at an IMAX theater!! To me, the experience of watching movies on an entire wall greatly outweighs that tiny bit of picture quality loss. In fact, I still felt it was just as good, if not better than my other 1080p TV’s. Additionally, I was worried with a projector because I have two 13” 3600 watt subwoofers with insane shaking ability. I figured the picture would be wobbling during the scenes with a lot of bass, however I noticed ZERO picture movement. The engineering team of this Epson 4000 definitely dotted their i’s and crossed their t’s. I must thank them, because they really came through with a product that delivers as advertised. One footnote…I was projecting on a wall with light beige paint, so I would imagine the picture quality will only increase once my actual projector screen is delivered. Overall amazing product, sturdy build, easy to navigate menus, and very flexible settings to accommodate your specific room/setup.

The un-packaging was easy to manage and the rest was literally plug and play. The menus and controls were super intuitive and we were enjoying the projector within minutes of opening. remote, power cord, manual, batteries, etc. were included - no HDMI cable, but that was no problem as we already had one.
The menus and picture adjustment controls were simple and we found the defaults to work almost perfectly. The unit runs quiet and although larger in form factor than our old projector, was neither too big nor too heavy. Sound was quite nice using our existing 5.1 receiver system.
Cycling through the inputs and picture qualities as well as trying it using a BR player, direct cable input, and a computer, I could find no issues - it just simply worked great.
We set it up in our living room and were operating at 104" screen size at about 8 feet from our couch using defaults (projector was roughly 10 feet from the far wall and only minor adjustment to keystone and focus was needed from default.
The unit was only moderately warm after an hour or so of testing it out and seemed to cool quickly. One side was a bit warmer than the other, but nothing to concern me. I have to say again, it runs really quietly.
We are looking forward to re-watching some of our old favorites on this unit soon. I am very happy with this projector.

I had a unit that had 3 tear looking scratches coming out of the center of the lens, sent it back in last October.. Too get cross shipped, its was half the price of the unit on a credit card and without, the turn around was 22 days. The one Epson shipped to me was a refurbished unit that was worse than the one I sent back. Same lens scratch, Cover makes grinding noise when closing, and focus function moves the whole motorized assemble up and down! The other Brand I use sent me a NEW unit on replacement and it was half the cost of this thing. That is poor customer service. Why send it back for another person's used junk again? Will not be upgrading to the 5050 when it comes out or another Epson product after this, i.e. printers I buy from them.

Excellent 4K Capable Projector

In preparation/anticipation of receiving this projector, I purchased a motorized screen; relegating my 65" 4K tv to the bedroom. Initial setup was easy and straightforward. While I do not yet have it ceiling mounted I have made alternative mounting arrangements, for now, in order to enjoy a theater experience.
The technical specs are very impressive including HDR, 4K enhancement, and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. These specs become apparent to the eye immediately when viewing content.
Movies are reproduced in stunning detail with vivid color and good contrast.
This projector also incorporates motorized lens. Specifically, you can preset up to ten (10) positions; including zoom and ultra wide lens shift. This provides a great level of flexibility and customization and ensures optimum home theater setup.
I had been considering the move to a projector based home theater for some time and I am very pleased that I have made the switch. Ultimately, nothing can match the experience of a true projector based home cinema experience. The Epson Home Cinema 4000 made the switch unintimidating. The combination of great specs, features, and image quality make this projector a excellent choice. Absolutely worthy of spot in my home.

I have used this all weekend with various devices and its been excellent.
Set up is really easy, i had this up and running in no time. I used this both outdoor and indoor over the weekend and this thing went like a champ.
1st thing i used was my cable box, i used this in my man cave in the basement, i had the projector around 12 feet away, the picture was really clear and vibrant, i was shocked at how good it looked. This is my first real projector for home use and my memories of older unites wasnt that great. this on the other hand is amazing.
I then wanted to check out the HDR so i plugged in my Xbox One S, the dashboard was crisp and clean, i played John Wick 2 which was a 4k UHD disk with HDR and oh my... It looked amazing and made everything look even more brutal than it did in the cinema. No shadowing, no stutters, just a great viewing experience. I also played Forza Horizon 3 which had HDR and had the same stunning effect. Its great for gaming as the latency seemed to be really low as in not noticeable at all. Its great for 4k and HDR media.
It also plays really nice with teh Chromecast, this is when i used the device outdoors, people were aboe to cast to teh Home Cinema and play YouTube videos, this was great and made the day better than it would have been without. People loved it and several said that this may be the next upgrade they make when considering a new TV. Its that good
So overall im no expert but as an everyday consumer this is a must buy. If you are looking for an HDR 4k experience with a projector then look no further, the price on this is great compared to others, the build quality is exceptional and its a blast to game on. go ahead and treat yourself!

The EPSON Home Cinema 4000 is a large projector, but the picture it's produces is huge and crystal clear. I'll start by saying that setup took me a bit to figure out and it's a heavy projector. With that said, this unit gives you the ability project a picture as large or as small as you want all while producing a bright, vibrant image. This home cinema can also be used outside to create movie night for the neighborhood kids. My family really enjoys watching movies on this projector. I would definitely recommend the EPSON 4000 to anyone looking to turn their favorite place to watch TV into a home cinema.

First, let me begin by saying that I have always been skeptical of projectors. Sure they produce the largest viewing size, but this is typically at the cost of image quality. Additionally, they've always been a little clunky that required a lot of extra equipment and just seemed like dying technology. The Epson Home Cinema 4000 has COMPLETELY proven me wrong.
Let's start with setup and required additional equipment. As with most projectors, you will need an external sound source. I recommend something with some power to match the awesome experience provided by the Epson 4000. That's it! A dedicated projection screen is not needed! I was impatient and just wanted to see what it looked like so I used a clear white wall as my screen and the picture looked fantastic. I'm sure there are some benefits to having a screen, but for those of you who may not have a dedicated home cinema room or just trying to save some $$, you can rest assured a clean white wall will work just fine. The great thing is, the only thing limiting your projection size is the size of your wall/room. Once you have everything in place, setting up the projector was far easier than I've ever experienced with other projectors. It really is as easy as plug and play. 1) Plug in the power 2) Plug in the video source 3) Connect audio to video source 4) Press power button. The on-screen menu controls are very easy to understand and I was able to adjust the projection angle within seconds and begin watching one of my favorite movies in well under 5 minutes. There's no need to adjust the legs since the Epson 4000 has a vertical lens angle adjuster of +/- 30 degrees controllable from the remote. I didn't mount the projector, instead I used a coffee table which was fine since I wanted to use it right away. For long term/permanent use, I'd obviously recommend mounting from the ceiling or having a dedicated platform toward the back of the room.
Once you get your movie/video started is when you really begin to see the Epson 4000 shine. The colors are bright and true. Even with a lot of ambient light, the projection was clear and very enjoyable. Adjustments to all of the typical picture settings are easily done via the remote control. I started off watching a Blu-Ray in HD. The Epson 4000 upconverts to near 4K and you can instantly tell a difference. Fast action scenes aren't a problem and every detail is crystal clear. However, native 4K video is where you're really going to notice the difference. While 4K looks great and you can tell a small/moderate difference between 4K/1080p on a 55" LED, it makes a BIG difference when viewing a 100" (projection can be as large as 300"! ) projection from the Epson 4000. The projection is so large, lifelike, and crystal clear, you're engrossed in the scenes. Again, this is where an excellent sound system will only further enhance an already great experience. I use a premium soundbar with 8" sub that I purchased from Best Buy's Magnolia Home Theater department. I love my soundbar and sub, but a full home theater sound system would give you the best experience.
The Epson 4000 has a 3D lens, but I'm not a huge 3D fan. That being said, it's very easy to flip a switch and it will convert regular images to 3D.
In conclusion, this is a fantastic home theater projector. There are certainly cheaper options, but you definitely get what you pay for. If you want to watch super clear realistic pictures that make you forget your watching on a projector, you need to buy the Epson 4000. It will blow you away and you'll wonder what you're going to do with that brand new 55" TV you just got.
Pros:
-Picture quality (color, brightness, motion clarity)
-Picture quality again... It's just phenomenal
-Setup
-Heat Dissipation (for such a large projector, the heat dissipation was pretty efficient and I never felt like the stand was getting too hot)
Cons:
-Price (obviously, this will be out of range for some)
-Size (it's huge so have a place to put it)

Epson is known for having great home theater projectors for a great price, and the Home Cinema 4000 is no exception. A full feature set combined with very good looking picture make this a projector worth considering if you can afford the price tag. Some will undoubtedly be put off by the GIANT form factor, however.
One of the greatest benefits of this projector is the fact that it has lens shift capability (which is not necessarily the case for all projectors in this price range, though it definitely should be in my opinion). This gives the user a great amount of flexibility in how they can place the projector; you don't need to be dead center to the screen to get a properly proportioned image. The throw distance numbers are quite adequate, as well: you can get
The 4000 has a great feature set, in addition to the lens shift. The projector accepts input formats all the way up to 4K HDR (via the HDMI 2.2 port). This is nice from a "future-proof" standpoint, but the native resolution of the projector is still 1080p, though it is claimed that the true output resolution is somewhere greater than 1080. Opinions vary greatly on whether this should actually be considered a "4K" projector, since it employs what Epson calls "pixel shifting" to achieve "4k Enhancement" picture quality. The inclusion of HDR 10 compatibility is a huge plus here, as the Epson is able to reproduce the entire HDR color spec. You don't see that on projectors in this price range, or anywhere near it for that matter.
Out of the box, the picture quality is quite frankly great, but for those who have the means of having it calibrated, this projector has 2 point white balance controls and full color management for the 3 primary and 3 secondary colors. This allows you to tweak settings at a granular level, which is important for anyone considering a projector at this level. In my situation, I replaced a Panasonic plasma that had quite amazing picture quality (pretty much only the current crop of OLEDs look better to my eyes), so the black level of this projector has taken some acclimation time, but in my experience, this is on par with anything else out there. I've heard DLP projectors tend to show better black levels, but the rainbow effect bothers me greatly so 3LCD projectors like this one are a great option. At peak brightness, the 4000 throws out up to 2,200 lumens, so it performs reasonably well with some ambient light, but you'll still want to light control your room for the best picture possible.
The one downside for me was how large this projector is. It is a beast of a machine, and has a fairly substantial weight (a shade under 30 lbs). Mounting it on the ceiling will most likely require two people and a fair amount of clearance. If you have the real estate, though, this shouldn't be more than a minor annoyance. One thing I've noticed, though, is that this projector is incredibly quiet; most likely attributable to the case size.
In summary, this is a great projector. It checks nearly all the boxes for what I want in a projector (the only missing feature being native 4k resolution, but that's not happening at this price) and has great picture quality. Highly recommended.

i'm not sure exactly what i was expecting when i unboxed this projector. i've always wanted one, but i've always been a bit skeptical of them. i can say that, after doing a preliminary setup of this projector, those fears are laid to rest. wow...this is exactly how movies were intended to be watched. i have a 65" samsung 1080p in the living room, and it's great. it's more than great, it's something i've really enjoyed watching movies and shows on. to this point, i had no idea what i was missing. watching TV on the samsung is just that - it's watching *TV*. when i fired up the epson projector however, i stepped into the realm of the *cinema* experience. i can with no hesitation, i am absolutely blown away by this projector, to the point where i needed to write a review even before i had the chance to properly set it up in a home theater environment. for the record, i only did a cursory set up with the projector sitting on a dresser and shown on a wall about 13' away. the picture itself was about 110" on the diagonal. for my source box, i used an apple tv 4, with both plex (full 1080p bluray encodes) and itunes store movies/shows. i had to get within about 3-4 feet to even begin to make out individual pixels, with 1080p source material.
the good:
picture quality - again, wow. the picture is absolutely fantastic. while not a true 4k, you'd be hard pressed to tell it by watching. it uses a technology called pixel shifting to create "4k enhancement" picture, and it is *very* effective. though i wasn't able to test them out, HDR and 4k content are bound to be outstanding, if 1080p upscaled looks this good.
quiet - a very low fan hum, barely audible. in a proper home theater setup, probably would not even be noticeable.
warm(not hot) - a lot of projectors can get quite hot. this one runs significantly cooler, what i would characterize as very mild to the touch.
easy set up - out of the box, i had to change very little about the setup, mostly due to lens shift and keystone (due to physical placement of the projector).
easy configuration of settings with motorized lens via remote (focus, zoom, lens shift, keystone)
the bad:
is going to be the main reason behind other expenditures, including a popcorn machine, theater seating, black out curtains, not to mention the movies themselves.
more time spent inside watching movies - i'm going to have to force myself to get up occasionally and leave the awesomeness that is this viewing experience to go outside and oh, i don't know, do stuff that doesn't involve watching movies. with this projector that's going to be easier said than done.
miscellaneous:
needs controlled light for best viewing - dark is fantastic, mid level lighting is really good, but in bright rooms the picture suffers from wash out. probably not the best for typical living room viewing. pretty typical of all but the most expensive (think $10k+ in price) projectors. controlled lighting is fairly important for this epson, but not necessarily a concern for placement in an area such as a home theater.
overall:
all kidding aside, this projector really is a fantastic piece of home theater equipment. match it with a good quality screen, a decent audio setup, and you've got yourself an incredible home theater setup. the 4k enhancement does a great job of replicating 4k (unlike "faux 4k" of the past) even when upscaling 1080p content. highly, highly recommended, especially at this price point.
