1st projector. Bought this projector on recommendation and it died after 5 days. It started out real good. Read other reviews and others had the same issue. Best Buy did a great job handling the return and install of a new model.

I have never had a projector type TV before and had no idea what to expect from this. I'm happy to report this is an amazing device.
First, the projector unit is well-packaged. The box is huge and the items inside packed with enough Styrofoam to keep everything safe. Total it weighed roughly 30 lbs.
The projector itself is also really large, but is incredibly versatile in how it can be used. You will need a pretty large space, but it can be used either in front-of or behind a screen, it can sit on a (sturdy) table OR it can be mounted from the ceiling. The manual and remote are very easy to understand, and the remote has a handy button for flipping the picture if needed.
One really cool thing the manual explains is how far back to place your projector for the size screen you want. This was very easy to understand and much-appreciated. It's also very handy for setting up a "theater" room.
As with almost all projectors there is no sound, but there are several different types of connections available for easy integration with a sound bar or surround sound system, including an optical connector.
The picture is the best I've seen on a projector. It's bright with amazing color pop, and incredible contrast straight out of the box. I tried it first just on an off-white wall and was very impressed with how sharp the picture looked. I demo'd the 4k version of "La La Land" through a Sony 4k blu-ray player and was very impressed with the color reproduction and contrast. Like most projectors the darker the room the better the contrast--with all the lights out it was almost theater quality just on the wall. When projected onto a screen in a dark room it's stunning. We actually took ours outside to try it on a sheet at night and felt like we were at a drive-in.
This projector really is as easy or as complicated as you'd like it to be. You can do a quick set-up and just throw it on a table and project it on a wall, or you can mount it from your ceiling, wire a room around it and create a stunning theater room. The manual is simple to understand, and will walk you through complicated set-ups.
The remote is impressive and will do basically anything you need it to do, including calibrate the picture and bulb from right-to-left, up-and-down, and basically whatever you need to get your picture looking amazing.
This is a great starter piece to an amazing home theater. If you're looking specifically for a projector to build around you will be hard-pressed to find a better one than this for this type of money.

Out of the box it's pretty heavy and intimidating but, the setup was easy. I hooked it up to my XBOX as a TV Replacement. I've been in the market for a projector for a while and was not disappointed! Clear picture, no static no problems! Epson is known for great projectors but the quality of this one is like no other.

Great Upgrade

I've been using an Epson 2045 as my main family room tv/projector for the last 2 years. I was extremely happy with it, and constantly debated whether I needed to upgrade at all. 1080p still looks great and relevant on it.
Happy to say the Epson 4000 is a significant step-up/upgrade to the 2045. Picture is super clear and really has that wow factor that jumps off of the screen. Image is very bright, even when on ECO mode. (I am currently projecting 13 ft away from a 120" screen, and it is bright enough in ECO mode to leave the living room curtains open.)
I don't notice much of a difference when it comes to the 4k enhancement feature on 1080p sources, but it still looks superior to anything the 2045 could produce. Where this projector really shines is when it comes to 4K/HDR content. Colors are vibrant and really pop, and the image is crystal clear.
Very happy with my purchase.

This is NOT a 4K Projector!

This is a 1080p Projector that accepts 4k signals. Don't be fooled. Way overpriced for a 1080p projector.

Do NOT buy an Epson 4000

Beyond frustrated! Don’t buy an Epson 4000!! It is nothing more than a paper weight! I wish we could rate ZERO stars! We purchased this for our home theater and have used it less than 30hrs. We went to use the theater room today and the unit would not power on! Nothing no lights, nothing. We tried switching out the power cord, plugged in a vacuum to the power source and it fired right up, but not the projector. Called Best Buy Geek Squad and they informed us that we would have to dismount it, bring it in, they would send it off for a repair, then we would have to remount it!! What a joke! Their sales reps are the one that recommended this model (we originally were going to buy another brand) and now there is an issue they are unwilling to help.
