I bought this in case of bad weather or power outage. It has the ability to work off a built in battery which can be charged by the crank, solar cell, or usb port. You can also use 3 AAA batteries. I also like the option of using the included usb cord to charge a cell phone I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 due to a lack of station presets for am or fm radio. It is also easy to turn the alarm on by accident. I would buy it again.

We've been having a lot of crazy weather in our area lately, so my wife and I purchased this for our home. It's conveniently got a rechargeable battery as well as a hand crank to be able to charge it up if the power is out for many hours. I was not extremely happy with the "Alert" mode. It has a setting to sit in the Alert mode, allowing it to only go off when there is an alert from the NWS for our area. While it certainly comes on when the Alert goes off, the device then will remain with the radio "on" until someone returns to it and resets it to Alert mode. It's been frustrating because it would sit in Alert mode while I'm at work and if a storm rolls through, it would turn the device on. I'd return home a few hours later to find the device almost dead, along with a bunch more storms rolling through later that night to hope that I wouldn't lose power again or I wouldn't have notifications.

This little radio is great. It is used daily In a delivery vehicle and it stays charged via the solar panel. The digital tuning keeps it locked in on a station without static and the antenna doesn't have to be extended. If the weather is an issue, it may be switched to a weather band station for alerts. Overall a great value for the money. Also comes with a battery option for cloudy days.

I bought this for emergency use, but find myself using it occasionally to listen to the radio. It includes instructions, but they are inadequate (WHY???). You have to go online to find complete, detailed, instructions on how to use each of the functions. I like how there are multiple ways to power it. There's also a USB port for charging your smartphone....It's a great feature to have, but it works by "dumping" the charge from the radio to the phone, which is not so great. I tried charging my phone when the radio was charged at full power, and the radio battery drained in about 15 minutes, and my phone only went from 7% power to about 20%. The built-in flashlight is a joke. It's fine for a true emergency, which is the whole point of this radio, but you are better off buying a dedicated flashlight. This radio is good for my own needs, but there are better emergency radios out there.

I bought this for my husband just for occasions, camping, working outdoor, use in case of emergencies, You know doomsday prepping. We both absolutely love it, I find myself using it more then he does. Volume is actually really great on it. Great deal I'd say! Never know when there will be an emergency better safe then sorry!

I bought this item for my husband for Christmas. He loves it and it worked perfectly for 7 months, then the sound wouldn't work. At first it was intermittent, then it was permanent. We took the radio and the receipt back to Best Buy and they replaced it for free because I had purchased the Replacement Warranty when I bought the original one. Best Buy ordered another one on-line and it came to the house several days later. This one works fine, but I bought the 2-year replacement plan again - just in case!

My mother-in-law bought us a weather radio but there was not much to it and we couldn't get it to work every time...so it needed to be replaced. I bought the American Red Cross FRX3 Hand Turbine AM/FM/NOAA Weather Radio for home to use during tornadoes & storms. It arrived 2 days prior to a storm and my husband used it the entire night of the storm. He loved it. He was extremely happy with my purchase and I would agree, it was a great buy.

Had to use this 2 weeks after purchasing during a tornado warning. We lost all power but this worked perfectly. The radio lasted the entire 45 min, the flashlight stayed on. Great purchase!

I bought this just before Sandy via in-store pick-up. It really helped my stress level knowing it was there. We used the radio every night and left it in a sunny spot to recharge during the day. It's great knowing we have it as an emergency power source for cell phones if we really have to (though I would not look forward to turning the hand crank that much). The built-in LED is very bright. All-in-all, I highly recommend this for your emergency box for future storms.

Great emergency radio. The cell phone charge is a great feature. The downside is you have to charge off the Dynamic (internal) battery which the cell phone draines that battery quickly. So you option is if your in the dark you have to crank while it charges. If you have sun then it can charge off sunlight.

Bought this in preparation for a huge ice storm in early December. Got it home and immediately turned on the radio and found my correct frequency for NOAA weather, unlike other radios I have owned. Had great reception in my house. I like that the recharging ports are covered. The light was plenty bright for my needs. It is very compact and will be easy to store. Fortunately, I did not lose power so I haven't yet put it to good use other than getting it set up and testing out all the features when purchased. I was completely satisfied with what I found and felt at ease knowing I had this if I did lose power.
