I saw one reviewer mention that this radio wouldn't charge an iPhone, but my guess is that he or she didn't place the unit into cell-phone mode, which requires that you hit a button. This appears to be a common error according to other review sites. This little unit is OUTSTANDING based on my initial impressions. The construction and materials appear very good, and the reception is exceptional - and I live in the sticks. It is charging my Samsung Galaxy S3 (power hog) as we speak, and a few dozen spins of the charger handle gets the battery up to usable levels. It is compact, feature rich, and has decent dust / moisture protection where the ports are (an attached rubber flap). I've seen reviews critiquing the brightness of the light, but I just navigated a pitch-black section of my house with absolute ease, which is all you should expect from a survival unit. It won't be visible from space, but it provides plenty of illumination to navigate your area and locate lost items. Overall this seems like an excellent little unit.

Purchased after Hurricane Sandy. 9 months later solar panel no longer charges even in direct sunlight. Switch for changing bands snapped with very little use. Don't waste your money. Just get a small battery powered radio for $10, get some rechargeable batteries and you will be better off.

Not enough amps to charge an iPhone. Usb gives just a little power light up a led light maybe or a jurassic cell phone. It should be CLEARLY stated in the description
