Great Photography

Although not perfect, this was an excellent film. I'd give it 5 stars just for the photography. If it was not filmed on Everest as some folks have said, the sights chosen for photography and/or any computer animation is true to the topography of Everest. I think the portrayal of the amateur mountaineers was more superficial than in the movie, "Into Thin Air", but the photography in this movie was in a different league altogether. The portrayal of Beck Weathers, whom I have met, was poor, making him into a Texas yahoo, and the details of his helicopter rescue were wrong, but, hey, that's Hollywood.
I am am avid traveler but not a high altitude mountaineer(And there is a difference in folks who climb in the Rockies and those trying to summit a peak twice the altitude of the highest mountain in the Rockies).

It's alright, not a bad movie. You're getting what you expect, they climb Everest. It's got some A list actors in it, so that's what made me wanna watch it. Keira Knightly, Josh Brolin, and Jake Gyllenhaal to name some.

Everest is very intense and full of suspense. It keeps you interested from start to finish. It's based on a true story, and that adds a lot of impact as well.
Technically, this HDR 4K movie is quite rich in color, at least in the early parts of the movie away from the snow. I'm a bit new to the HDR thing, and I'm finding the HDR movies to be very dark and hard to bring them up to a picture that I'm used to. This one needed some tweaking, but I was able to get it up to a nice picture. Sound quality was great. I use 7.1, but not Atmos ready, yet, so it plays in Dolby True Audio, and I have found the 4K movies to have a better sound to them than regular bluray.

Tragedy at the Top of the World

Everest is the dramatic story of the May, 1996 disaster atop Mt. Everest, when 2 guided mountaineering expeditions met a sudden storm near the summit with tragic consequences. The movie does a great job at recreating the tension and drama of the event. It questions the wisdom of guided expeditions, the pressure to get the clients to the top, the role of Sherpas in this enterprise, and all of the resulting poor decisions and bad judgment resulting from conflicting objectives. The photography is amazing. With a few exceptions, character development is rather light. But overall, a worthwhile movie. Although the movie does not give credit, it is based on the popular book Into Thin Air.

The best part about this movie is that it is more realistic than other movies. It's a disaster movie where bad things happen, people make bad decisions, and sometimes there's nothing anyone can do.

Gripping!

I've been fascinated (if that's the right word) with the events of May 10, 1996 ever since the tragedy first unfolded; I have magazine clippings from the event, I've collected all the books written by the survivors, and I thought the made-for-TV movie, Into Thin Air, a dramatization of Jon Krakauer's book, was excellent. Although this movie does take some small bits of dramatic license here and there, the cast and crew are to be commended for putting themselves through the grueling process of actually filming on locations up to 16,000 feet. The visuals are stunning, and the extras are very interesting. Since buying the DVD I've watched it over and over, at least ten times.

Great Beauty - Dangerous Mountain

Everest intermixes the intimacy of man's essence with the scope of the world's highest peak to near perfection. The film is dazzling in construction but more a fascinating, though not quite 100% complete, look at man's will and determination both to succeed and survive. Far more than a simple "Disaster" or "Survival" film, Everest proves more emotionally complex, partly for its realism and conveyance of a true story and partly for the filmmakers' and actors' abilities to so easily entwine humanity with disaster and survival. It's a great film from every angle with excellent 3D video and reference audio.

this movie is about actual events that took place on mt. Everest in 1996. it is a remake of the movie into thin air based on the book into thin air by jon krakauer. this movie Everest was done much better than the original it is much more realistic. I personally have been on Everest and the movie gives you a good feel of what it's like to be on that mountain

I got this without looking into what it was about, sadly thought the story line was different. The ending was heartbreaking, what a tearjerker. Engaging and real, where choices you make do affect the outcome. I could feel the desperation and grief when the communication between the ground crew and the climbers. Those who made it and those who did not. Real life, even repackaged, strikes a cord with us all. As we do not experience even a fraction of the possibilities that can happen on a trek such as this. Makes it even more real and hits home with the loss.

Man vs the Mountain

Everest is the highest place to climb on the planet. Anyone wishing to climb it needs preparation to conquer it. A top notch crew of adventurers with enough experience in climbing and the elements, gets reminded that any day is not just another day climbing Everest. What I found lacking in the film, was an attempt to accentuate the drama and tragedy properly. Although this was drawn from an actual event back in the '90's, it reminds you that nature is an uncontrollable force.

This was a good survival flick. Sometimes what's really in nature can be more intense than any CGI laden Sci-Fi disaster movie.

I've watched a couple of other mountain climbing movies that depict how commercialized climbing Everest has become, but this movie really takes it to the next level. It does a great job at developing the relationships of the climbers to their loved ones back home. What it does do is depict a perfect storm (no pun intended) of the business of climbing Everest with people who have no business taking on such a feat, with the forces of Mother Nature. Mother Nature wins over greed at the cost of people's lives.

I have no idea why I would purchase this just to put myself through the stress and heartache I went through in the theater all over again, but I don't regret it. This is a fantastic film and fitting tribute to those gave their lives in pursuit of others' personal accomplishments. I don't know why critics claimed that the characters weren't well-rounded or sympathetic enough or whatever, but I was onboard with each of them immediately and it just made it that much harder to watch.

Thrilling Story Not to be Missed!

I will repeat what I once read...if you haven't read about this disaster, don't. Don't read, search, just sit back and watch. While I remember some of this from the 90's, seeing it dramatized paid tribute to some fine, brave souls. Jaw-dropping in 3D, 4K is splendid, crisp, and pops! Originally I thought, here's another Everest story, and buckled down for boredom. I don't say this often, but this is one movie not to be missed! It will change you.

Great price for a 3D combo pack.
I knew nothing about this title prior to purchasing. I liked the cast and that it was in 3D. I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to what I know will be good in 3D. Everest did not disappoint. Real locations mixed with highly believable visual effects. This based on actual events film will place you high upon the earth on Everest, the highest mountain on our planet.

I bought this because I'd recently bought a 4K TV and wanted something to show off on it. This movie made for pretty good demo material, plus I was surprised to discover that the movie itself was actually very good. It's based on a true story and from what I've read it stays pretty faithful to what actually happened I'd never heard the story and found it quite moving. Reccommended
