Egyptian Princes Moses and Ramses are raised together as brothers. When Ramses becomes pharaoh, Moses is his most-trusted adviser. However Moses soon discovers his Hebrew parentage, and Ramses banishes him to the desert -- often a death sentence. But God has a mission for Moses: Free the Israelites from slavery. Moses returns from exile and demands that Ramses let his people go, but the arrogant ruler is unmoved, leading to a battle of divine wills.

If you like epic medieval pieces with lots of swords and a cast of thousands like Gladiator or LOTR with some biblical folklore about Moses and his followers journey thrown in, you will likely enjoy this thoroughly engrossing step back in time circa 1300 BC. Several great sword action and natural disaster sequences combined with very good acting from the always excellent Christian Bale and all the main cast members, plus an interesting take on the legend of Moses and his followers' journey across the Red Sea. The 1080problem 3D image is jaw-droppingly sharp and detailed with an appropriately goldfish color pallette. Amazing sets/costumes as well. The 3D effect is not gimmicky and strikingly realistic with the cinematography seeming to go on forever into the screen, making the already epic sprawling backdrops all the more beautiful to look at. The 7.1 lossless DTS HD Master Audio is ear candy that will rattle your living room. Highly recommend if you like this genre!

The special effects on this movie are amazing a most watch for sure.

If you're familiar with the bible and or story of Moses than you know what the story is about. The movie is great although I wish they'd make one with more ethnic diverse characters as ancient texts, art, etc portrayed as such thus my reason for four stars. Anyway the best thing about the movie is the graphics. I've seen fake graphics in movies that were of poor quality and not well coordinated but this one by far does the job. For $4.99 it's worth it! Buy it!

Good cast. Entertaining at times. But this is not the biblical story of the Exodus from Egypt. It does portray Moses as a military commander, which he was, but it portrays the Pharaoh as being rather wimpish which would have been extremely unlikely based upon what we know from history. Moreover, it identifies the Pharaoh as being Ramesses the Great (making it more incredulous that someone of such wimpish leadership would have been called the Great) when many historians believe that the Pharaoh at the time of the Exodus was either Thutmose II or Thutmose III with the Exodus being about 1446 B.C. This was about 200 years before Ramesses the Great. Still others say that the Pharaoh of the Exodus was Tutankhamun and that the Exodus was in about 1330 B.C. - still many decades before Ramesses. So there is certainly poetic license in this movie which must be viewed more for its entertainment value than for its historical accuracy. For that reason, I give it 3 stars as it does hold your interest. But the story is a bit disjointed at times and hard to follow. The plagues seem to happen out of order, and most of the plagues are shown to occur even before Moses goes to the Pharaoh and demands of him to "Let my people go" which is again confusing to the viewer. So watch it if you want a good action movie, but prepared to be surprised and confused if you expect it to retell the biblical tale in Exodus.

As with all movies dealing with similar storylines, one expects the changes to both the story and overall movie appeal. In this version, the acting was good, as were the special effects, although I was expecting more and better effects. Between this and 1959's BEN HUR, starring Charlton Heston, I'd take the 1959 version every time, especially for the chariot race. Even 1925's BEN HUR had a better chariot race.

The movie itself is only so-so, the acting rough and the way it tries to give "real reasons" for the plagues and such a bit much. But the extras are terrific with a two hour "making of" documentary that has another hour of bonus bits and slews of other features on the making of the movie. really goes in depth and makes you admire the effort, if not the final results, and thus if you're a fan of how such epics are made, this really is a must-get.
