There aren't many games that I put close to 100 hours into. This is one them. It's one of the most graphically impressive games I've ever seen. The music is top-notch. The combat is satisfying. And the characters are timeless. I loved my time with the game.

I mean.. it's FF7 with modern graphics! The new battle system is a blend of old and new. It's strategic yet fast-paced. It's definitely a welcome change. Only downside is that it's split into several parts but still great fun nonetheless.

mixed story. I wouldn't call it a greatest game of all time despite the levels of hype built up over more than a decade. But it does scratch that nostalgia itch quite well. The scope of this game is about the first four hours of the original game stretched over a 20-30 hour playthrough. Combat is great, music and graphics are sublime (sans the poor texture problems that show up occassionally). There's a plot twist in the last few chapters that you'll either love or hate.

If you're looking for a 1-1 remake of the original game, this is not that. The game feels like a mix of the story of 7, the linear storyline of 10, and the gameplay of 15. There are times that feels like a blatant stretching of time. Walk and talk scenes that forbid running. Cutscene, run to to spot, another cutscene. Small things like that will extend what is essentially at max a 20 hour game to nearly double that. You play the game for what it is, and not what it could or should be.
I have a hard time reviewing this unbiased, as I was a big fan of the original. But I have a feeling that being the type of gamer that I am, I would still enjoy this game as a standalone entry to the franchise. The world feels lived in and meticulously detailed. It's a place you don't mind walking instead of running through. True, there are moments of low resolution that feel a little out of place in 2020, but you will raise your eyebrow for a moment, then move on.
The combat is fluid and a perfect compromise between turn based combat from the original and action combat from 15. You can mash square repeatedly for the first 10 hours or so, but after that you'll start having/wanting to be strategic with your actions. The game is great about making combat not feel like such a grind, like previous entries to the series. Most encounters are fun, and if they're not fun, they're usually pretty brief.
In the end, I'll split the recommendation into 4 categories
If you're a fan of the original and are open to innovations, come on in.
If you're a fan of the original, but like it the way it was and think change is for punks, maybe don't pick this one up.
If you're familiar with the series/enjoyed playing 15, this should be fine, you'll just be missing the open world aspect.
If you've never played any Final Fantasy before, give it a try, I can't review without my rose colored glasses, so this may be a winner for you.

I've played the original PS1 FF7 many times over on different platforms, so when i say the remake is awesome, oh man, its mindblowing!
Seeing it in modern day graphics, with updated story telling and characters, is great! Newbies or Veterans will appreciate this wonderful remake.
I like how they took the time to focus on the core group. The side characters, Biggs/Wedge/Jessie, all feel like core characters in the remake. Some of the story has changed, but it remains true to the original. Some gaps filled. Portions of the original are now playable, like how when Aerith goes to save marlene in the original, we dont see how or what happened...in the remake, however, you get to finally see what may have unfolded in the meantime.
Great Graphics. Great and updated soundtrack. Overall, just outstanding. Play it!!!

This game has exceeded all my expectations. The combat was good even though I originallyhad reservations about abandoning the turned based style. The real Joy is the story. Square-Enix put serious work into the characters and the city of Midgar. The people and the city came to life in a brand new way. I have played the original several times since the PS1 original and the remake was so much better for not simply being a retelling of the original with better graphics.
The story elements were both familiar and new as a returning player. The characters were so captivating that my wife began to watch me play and was completely invested in the story by the end (she never played the original).
Great game that I would recommend to anyone who like great character writing, RPGs, Final fantasy, or video games in general.

Overall a great new next gen experience with additional story and lots of new content which I wont spoil anything here but it does stay faithful to the story with offcourse some new plot twists that in a way makes this remake sort of a new experience. All the different locations that you remember of the classic rpg hit FF7 for the PS1 are here and they look really awsome in this remaster you will find yourself exploring alot, NPCs are really fun to talk too, I saw new mini games as well as old ones which is really cool . The game play is a little different but makes sense that it is and its easy to learn the new fighting system and yes material is in this game. I would definitely recommend this if you played FF7 for the PS1 and liked it.

I have owned and played all mainline Final Fantasy games and a good amount of side games so FFVII remake was something I've been excitingly waiting for since the release of test demo for the PS3.
I can say for certain that it's one of the most enjoyable RPG's I've played in the last decade.
While I was admittedly a bit let down that this game only encompasses the Midgar section I really enjoyed everything they included in-between. Getting to spend more time with the main cast, and other minor characters, in this section really made me feel more attached to them and it was a treat getting to see more of Midgar.
There are certain changes that I was a bit concerned about at the time of playing but honestly now I'm just excited to see what Square-Enix has planned for the future.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is visually jaw dropping and beautiful to witness. The gameplay is immersive and fun that will have you spending hours to fully complete this first episodic chapter. The controls are responsive and very easy to pick and play for new players to Final Fantasy. For those wondering, it has been reported that to fully complete this episode will require 30+ hours, which I am okay with.
The packaging of the deluxe edition is just awesome, as it is packed with a collector’s art book of the game, a cd soundtrack (something cool of being able to own media than digital that resides in an imaginary cloud), chokobo in-game dlc, steelbook, and base game.
A must buy for any gamer out there.
*Sadly, Xbox owners will get the game one year later. Regardless, buy the game.

This is a tough one for me. I was a junior in high school when the original FF7 came out. I had played every US release of Final Fantasy ever. I remember thoroughly enjoying the original game and being fairly blown away by the difference in graphics between FF6 on SNES and FF7 on PS1. I've continued to play every FF game since. None will ever be as good as FF6 & FF7 to me....but they are all worth a play through. When I pre-ordered this, I assumed that it was the whole game....since it didn't say "Final Fantasy 7 Remake: first 5 hours"...and I get that they made it take way longer to get out of Midgar in this game. My concern is that I paid $80 for a deluxe edition of the first 5 hours of the OG game....so by the time all is said and done, how much am I going to be spending to actually finish this game in its entirety? And will be receiving my AARP card before they're all released? Unfortunately no one seems to have the answer. I'm disappointed that Square Enix has opted to go this route...as it is inevitably going to force me to buy new hardware down the road to play the next part of the game. If it's going to end up being $60-80 for each episode of this game I may end up just skipping the rest. It's not just about the money....it's the principle...you already got me to spend $60 on FF7 for PS1. Then I bought it again for $20 or $30 to replay on the Nintendo Switch. Then I paid $80 for it on the PS4 without being clearly labeled as only the introduction portion of the game.
I will say this though...the graphics are amazing. And seeing a fairly faithful recreation of something I enjoyed so much in my youth was a lot of fun. I just don't like my wallet being sucker punched by nostalgia. You can keep your member berries.

This game has me speechless. As a fan of the original, the Final Fantasy VII Remake stays true to the game released in '97 while introducing fresh new takes on small events that were unable to be imagined years ago. From the change in gameplay to the updated soundtrack this game has become a top favorite of mine for not only 2020 but of all time.
As for the bonuses in the Deluxe Edition, the steel case is covered in fantastic artwork, the artbook includes a nice look at updated character and monster designs, and the soundtrack has fresh takes on classic sounds included in the original, and last but not least, the Cactuar and Chocobo Chick summons are small add-ins that enhance gameplay while showing off how flashy the game can be.
10 out of 10 score from me.

Its great to play a long awaited game and have it be worth the wait! I loved this game so much. The characters were all interesting and likeable. The plot was interesting and does a good job at setting the stage for the rest of the story to come. The character model graphic were incredible and that along with really good voice acting elevated the story a lot.
I also loved the new combat for the game. The game constantly has you switching between characters and parties to keep the combat fresh, but also gives you enough time to get used to each character's combat and personalize it using the Materia system.
As a bonus the music is incredible.
I can't wait for the next part. :)

What’s not to love about this game? Beautiful graphics, excellent gameplay, faithful to the original story for the most part. Being immersed in Midgar and seeing the familiar timeless characters reborn on the PS4 was incredible.
The voice acting was amazing, can’t say enough about that. I didn’t quite understand where they were going with the ending until I looked up theories and what it meant, I’d anything it left me thirsting for more.
I was expecting more from this, I wanted to continue. I couldn’t put it down. I see this as a tv series that I just binge watched. This is only season 1 where we get introduced to the characters, the setting, plot, etc. up next we have heavy hitting stuff! Buckle your seatbelts.

Visually we have seen how beautiful this game looks.
The gameplay mechanics are similar to the recent changes similar to that of FFXIII & FFXV.
It gives you the options of playing a ‘Turn Based’ type style (which is how I played - loved it) or the new age of playing with moving around and having to make quick decisions.
The story has been elaborated a lot more. There is so much that you start to learn and find and makes you want more. The game runs until you’re going to leave Midgar, but even the quick players have spent some days getting to the end (I clocked in about 60 hours thus far) over a span of a few days.
There’s still some goals I want to complete and obtain certain items but this is well worth the money.
