One of the seemingly forgotten gems of the Final Fantasy series. Fun combat and characters mixed with a great story and made even better being on the Switch.

Quality of life updates, including speed multipliers and difficulty options really make this older game much better. Need to travel across a map or leveling your characters? Easily speed up the game 2X/4X. Don't need the challenge, but want to experience the story and cutscenes? Adjust the difficulty as low as you want.
I hope that more updates to older RPGs are created and inspired by this version. Total play time is reduced, cutscenes look great on Switch, and of course the job system is fascinating. The story kept me invested, even coming back to it after years.

It's a good game. The combat system's unique and feels like a very mini-RTS in terms of how it functions and flows. Although, I wish there was more customization in how your party AI can function in certain situations. Story is kinda eh (though I haven't finished it yet, I'm like halfway through): but so far it seems like a basic globe-trotting adventure to find the power to face an evil, all-encompassing empire. Voice-acting is hit-or-miss too. Don't think they redid any of it from the original release; some characters are good, some are bad and some are flat and in need of help. Music's good though, but not as memorable as other series' entries in my opinion.
All in all, it's a good game, but not for everyone for reasons as stated above. Want more reasons, find another review alone, can't scratch my brain for criticisms here.

I've never played FFV before, and while I believe the game is excellent, there's definitely a bit of a learning curve to the game. I still recommend purschasing this as a means of having a physical copy of FFV on your Switch!

it's fun but kinda annoying to play.
This is only the 2nd or 3rd FF game I'm played and the controlls take some getting used to.
Its also easy to die in this game ._. Its way to easy.
Takes a while to lvl up and you can't equip any items unless you have a license for it and that cost gil to get. Then you need to learn that skill to equip it! So I'm still using the amour and weapons i had when first started.
Monsters are not easy to kill and depending on the monster you don't get much exp. Im still lvl 4 even after completing quest and killing a few monsters .
In a way it gets boring and frustrating cuz you get stuck at a certain point and you're not sure where to go. You have to spend more gil to get areas on the map. Otherwise you won't really have much info to go on.

Square has done a fantastic job bringing this game to the newer consoles. Not only does it take all the great beauty of the original game and enhance it for the Switch, but it does improve the game system from the standard ps2 release with the more specialized international version. Overall the story remains intact with no major changes. This gives a while new generation a chance to experience the last ps2 final fantasy.

I am very anxious to start actually playing this version and see what new things are in the Zodiac Age over the original I played on PS2 so many years ago. I bought this on Black Friday along with X/X2 so needless to say, I'm still only about halfway through X, then I'm going to delve into this one, then go back to X2.
If you are considering buying this while its on sale, do it! If you wait, you'll have to pay full price later and then it's a questionable purchase.

I'm so happy I got this!! I never got to finish this the first time around for a couple of reasons... The main one being because even though at the time I enjoyed the look and style of this entry... I wasn't the biggest fan of the newer battle/exploration mechanics because I hadn't really played any MMORPG games yet that FFXII is similar to. I also had NO IDEA what length/size of an adventure I was getting myself into! ...But now I can chip away at this gorgeously crafted game anytime anywhere and it didn't take me long to fly by where I stopped the first time. It's great to hear a fully fleshed out orchestral soundtrack paired with improved visuals but the best thing about this version is the new (and very customizable) job system. I will probably get daggers thrown at me for this (and trust me, this has taken a lot of thought on my end as I am very much a single-digit FF fan) but this might be my new favorite in the series!

Final Fantasy XII is the last great Final Fantasy game that was made. There hasn't been a game in the franchise like it since. While a very different game from my personal favorites, IV and VI, I always found XII to be something of a single player offline Final Fantasy XI. While I prefer the PC version, the Switch version makes it portable! If you like JRPGs, you don't want to play this, you NEED to play this!

This may not be the definitive edition but it gets close and you also have the portability factor of the switch. You have great graphics and framerates (30fps), fast forward, 3 swappable gambits per characters, original/orchestra/ost sountrack, you can also reclass your characters as you please once you advance a bit into the story (this even includes refunds for your LP). I read a lot before deciding to get this gem and I highly recommend it

Played original on PS2, and overall glad that I got this. The latter stages of the main plot drag more than I remember and so it is not perfect, however I really like the game systems here. Wish that the gambit system (or something like it) was present on more than two games (this and Dragon Age Origins).
It is also quite cool to be able to play this game on the go.
