I've never played a Fire Emblem game before Awakening. I'm familiar with the style, having played FF:Tactics and other stuff like that. The games' mechanics are enjoyable, and seeing the battle grid is where everything really comes together. The 3D makes the characters on screen pop in a way that is more helpful to the player and less distracting or showy. Unfortunately, there's this cliched story, awkward character interactions and overly long cut-scenes getting in the way of this very enjoyable tactical RPG. I only got about 2 hours into the game before I started skipping as much as I could to just get to the next fight. It's a great place to start if you're just now getting a 3DS. The battles themselves tend to wrap up around a tidy 20-30 minutes at the most, so this makes a great game to play on the bus or during a break at work.

Top notch over all game. I would recommend this game for any person who at least mildly enjoys strategy turn based RPGs. The game is polished, has varying level of difficulties that can be set by the player. The story line is well done and the art direction in the game is very nice. I enjoy this genre of games, but I believe this game can even convert non strategy turn based RPG players as well. Very pleased.

I started this game Fire Emblem: Awakening on Hard and they really can kill your characters. Pretty good game overall; I've been into this series since FE came to the GBA. I like the new animations that they implemented into this game and the opening is JUST AMAZING. Overall a great game to have in the 3DS collection if you like tactical/strategy RPGs.

Fire Emblem is one of the deepest experiences available on 3DS. The default mode allows less experienced players to get into the game, while the "classic mode" is challenging for even the most experienced player. If you take the time to level your units and arrange marriages for your characters, it will easily take you 30 hours to beat the main story.

FE Awakening outdoes all of its precursors both cosmetically and also in playability. The challenge can be ratcheted down a few notches by removing the infamous permadeath mechanic that has been a mainstay since famicom. Story & character development are all top notch. An engaging experience throughout.
