I wanted a channel guide and dvr for my OTA stations without a monthly fee. The Fire Recast gets the job done. I connected my antenna to the Recast and then connected to my hub via network cable. Then the network sends the signal to a Fire TV device. A Fire Cube is best, but a Fire stick 4K will work. I started with a regular FireStick, but it was too slow. Now I can view my OTA channels in one channel guide along with PHILO, PLUTO,Red bull TV and the free ones from Sling. The DVR is a little balky, but it works.

First let me start by saying this is probably the best option available for OTA programming available, if you have an Amazon Prime subscription and Fire TV Sticks on the TV's you want to use this on. If I had to do it over again I would probably get the 4 tuner version as sometimes there might be more than two channels you want to record and watch at the same time. Several years later it still has it's quirks and I sometimes need to restart it as the Fire TV Sticks will not connect to it. All my sticks are the 4K version and are connected via WiFi in a small home and sometimes they will not connect even though they might be as close as 15 feet from the router. Restarting usually solves this issue. When you fast forward sometimes it will show the preview sometimes not. You cannot watch one tuner program the other tuner to a different channel and go back to the other channel as the tuner that is in the background will disconnect after a certain amount of time of inactivity. So actually two tuners is not truly two tuners as one will go to sleep after a while. Very annoying. Overall though while these quirks are annoying they are not a deal breaker. The product is easy to use, the remote only has a few buttons. Ease of use was one reason we had not cancelled our cable service but this is just as easy to operate. We have saved money over paying for cable/satellite service with much more viewing options. With all that having been said it is still a good option for cord cutting.

Working very well. Helped us "cut the cord". Integrates very well with the two Fire Stick 4Ks I purchased with all of the OTA channels showing up in the guide. Easy to pause and record live TV.

    Better than Tablo

I've been using Tablo for the last two years as my DVR and I just absolutely hate it. The wifi chip went out on the first unit and they sent me a replacement. The tuners on them just suck. Some channels just didn't come in good when they came in fine using my TV's tuner. I bought a washer and dryer recently and I got a $100 gift card from BB with the purchase. So, I was trying to decide what to use it on when I saw the Recast on sale for $129. I thought for $29 let's give this a shot. Well, I absolutely love it. I love the way it integrates with a firestick. I have the 4k and it works great. The tuners are way better than Tablo's. Channels come in really well and if a recording has some digital artifacts from not coming in good it will still record it. Tablo will just give up and not record it the whole show just because of a few seconds of bad reception. It's not perfect. It has a few glitches here and there. For instance, for some reason if I record 60 minutes as a series it won't want to record them all. Just 2 out of the 3. Hmm can't figure that one out so just record them as single episodes. The recast biggest fault is not being able to do manual recordings. The second biggest fault is not being able to record a series in a single time slot. If for instance you want to record the two afternoon episodes of Frasier it will record those two but also the ones in the middle of the night. So, it isn't perfect but it's something I can live with. I do get disconnects from the router every now and then, but it reconnects and doesn't mess up the recordings. The Tablo was worse. Sometimes I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it working again. I hope they update it to fix these minor annoyances but from what I've read they don't update it much. Still, I'm so glad to be done with Tablo.

Very useful gear, which enables recording of local OTA programming. Capability to view real-time programs and recorded material on your cell phone, is another feature when considering cutting the cable cord. Using with a Fire TV stick (required) also opens streaming resources.

The recast device is an excellent OTA recorder. Relatively easy to set-up and use. Like other similar Streaming and OTA recording devices, learning how to navigate and access all functions with the remote control provided takes a little practice. So far the unit has performed without any issues and picture quality is good. Having a good antenna helps.

We live half way between two television markets. We prefer to watch programming from the Dayton but our provider feeds us Cincinnati stations. We could solve this with a simple digital antennae but we wanted to time shift programs like the local news. The Fire TV Recast is a great solution that’s easy to set up and operate. Best of all, it works with every Fire TV Stick in the house so we can not only time shift we can also room switch. After 2 months of operation we have never gone above 25% memory storage. The 500GB is more than enough storage. Highly recommended.

This ended up being the best option for us because of the transcoding performance and the included hard drive capacity. We only need two streams, and use it mostly to get live TV to our TV's that lack any convenient way to get an antenna cable over to. I like that it has the backing of Amazon behind it. I don't worry about the guide being cut off or getting expensive. We have Prime and are more invested in Amazon than Google or Apple at this point for home automation and digital assistants. Unfortunately we really like our Roku best for streaming, so this puts us in a hard spot. Tablo might be a slightly better fit for us, but with the sale price on the Amazon product, and the confidence that it isn't going to stop working any time soon, we thought this was the best way to go. We just switch between the Roku and the Fire TV stick as needed.

Simple setup (wifi connection allows for garage placement), antenna directional is very helpful and seamless connection to Fire Stick. Would be 5 stars except that I have only owned it briefly so far so insufficient track record to give top rating. Would recommend and purchase again.

My original review was going to be negative - because the Fire TV Recast did not work with the Fire Cube. But a few days after my purchase I guess Amazon updated things and now everything works together extremely well. This also fixed two other concerns for me - I wanted my antenna to be away from my TV (just needs to be near the Fire TV Recast) and I did not have a turner in my TV for the antenna - which is now not necessary since the antenna plugs into the Recast. This was the last step in 'cutting the cord' with cable, and things are going very well.

Great OTA transmission from one device. I use to have OTA antennas connected to my five (5) different TV's (all connected to Amazon Fire TV/ sticks). Now I only have ONE antenna connected to this Recast and can watch OTA channels on all my 5 other TV's without individual antenna's connected to each, ( can watch up to 2 TV's at the same time). No longer have to switch the TV Inputs to watch OTA channels, just watch through the Recast. Has an OTA TV Guide too! Great.

If you are trying to break away from cable service, and as long as you own a fire tv device, like a stick or cube, then this is a great choice to watch, stream, and record live broadcast tv. Also syncs up with alexa for voice control. You will also need an HD antenna to use the fire tv recast. Also make sure to check your area for tower locations, distance, and orientation. A little expensive, but will pay itself off if you are buying this in the effort of cord cutting. Lastly, there is a 2-tuner and 4-tuner model, depending on your needs.

I was previously using Plex and a Silcon Dust device to record OTA. However pause/rewind of live tv was challenging. This unit easily integrates with my FireTV gen 3 and our FireTV Cube. Setting up recordings is similar to the intefaces of Plex and other DVR systems. Getting the channel guide free of charge is also a nice bonus. I was fortunate enough to catch a sale where it was $100 off.

Very easy to install, setup and operate. It's good that it doesn't have to connect to the tv and clutter that area. It does get warm after a while and should be placed where an antenna can provide good reception.

Before you purchase this YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS (I'm serious) 1- Amazon fire stick (not chrome, not Roku it had to be a fire stick or your just wasting your time) 2- Clearstream 2max. I've tried small antennas I've tried cheap hd antennas and wasted money my follies are your gain. 3- a Amazon account, this is worth having for so many reasons. Amazon had two options monthly or full year subscription. Don't do the monthly it's not cost effective yearly is the way to go. You will move your antenna multiple times to find the sweet spot even when you research online the optional spot for it. After all that work it's ready to binge watch shows. Don't forget to take advantage of sine free apps like PlutoTv, Tubi, PopcornFlix and freeform ( which comes free on Amazon prime video) Good luck and Good watching

The Amazon FireTV Recast is a great device for recording over-the-air (OTA) shows and watching over-the-air (OTA) channels anywhere you go, whether at home or out and about. Set up is simple, you just plug the FireTV Recast into the wall, screw an antenna in, download the FireTV app and set up through the app. Done! The FireTV Recast works great especially in a "Amazon" home like setting (if you have a FireTV Stick, Cube, Echo Show, or Echo Spot). You can also watch LIVE or view your DVRed shows on your phone (Apple or Android). Though, I do wish Amazon would bring a TV guide to its mobile app for phones/tablets. Otherwise, I can only view what is going on now. Still, this device is GREAT and PERFECT for cord cutters!

To use this item for recording shows that are interesting to me is a great joy. But the instructions for using the DVR are limited to those that are knowledgeable to all possible connections to the other ports/connections in back. Instructions should be made simply for elderly to understand the application or use of each connection and what it does.

We cut the cord a couple of years ago. Living in a large metro area there is plenty to watch free with OTA TV. The only thing missing after cutting the cord was a reliable, easy to use DVR that didn't require a subscription. This product fills all that I want in a DVR. Easy to use, stable, and available on multiple platforms. We are very pleased with this item.
