Customers are delighted by the Fire TV Recast 500GB OTA DVR's ease of use, reliable DVR and recording features, and seamless integration with Fire Stick devices. Many appreciate the excellent picture quality and the convenience of the channel guide. Got a good price pre-Xmas.
Installation went smoothly.
Recording and playback work well.
Only issue I have is that the DVR scheduling is extremely awkward. The DVR scheduling doesn't distinguish between new and repeat programs, and I still haven't figured out how to cancel an individual episode when recording an entire series of a program.

This device allows you to have one antenna then feed that to all your fire devices. The DVR feature works well and reduces the need to subscribe to a live stream service for CBS titles. My only regret is not getting the quad tunner. Pnly two of us in the house are interested in local broadcast, doubtful the daughter even knows what they are, so it works as ot should.

As long as you have a decent signal from your antenna you have DVR functions like your cable company gives you as long as you have a fire TV or fire stick. You can schedule to record from your fire stick or fire TV in advance but not in advance on your app for your phone or iPad. This is the only drawback that I can fine with it. You can only start recording from the app when the program you wanna record starts. But this is not a game changer, I still like to have the ability it gives you. I would recommend this product and hopefully they make a software change on their app in the future for recording programs.

A good option for recording over the air programs. Only drawback is that you need to reboot it once in a while when it gets stuck or has issues.

This is a useful machine with unique features, that used to do what it's supposed to without much fuss. Okay a little bit of fuss. It's always needed plenty of restarts, but was still worth it when it worked properly. I don't recommend this for the technically averse, unless you can get somebody else to set it up for you.
I originally bought one of these from Amazon. But 15 months later it wouldn't tune channels, connect to the internet, perform a factory reset, or even restart anymore. There's no help after 12 months so into the waste bin it went, really disappointing both environmentally, and from a value standpoint.
BUT... I like the functionality when it worked, so I bought another one. Amazon didn't make it easy to buy this with an extended warranty from them (I wonder why!), so I took the hint and purchased from Best Buy this time. Now I have four years of in-store support, even though I couldn't enter the store (I had to pick it up in the parking lot, due to COVID). I sure hope Best Buy stays around!
UNFORTUNATELY... My initial experience with the replacement unit was horrible. When I got home from BB, I discovered that they pawned off an unsealed, previously used product on me, obviously a returned unit. I had some real difficulty getting the 'new' unit set up. It took a lot of messing around to even get the Fire TV system to recognize it. Separately, getting it on to my wifi was an adventure as well. I had boxed it up a few times to return it.
Obviously I am disappointed that Best Buy charged me full new retail price for a used, or at the least a demonstration model. I should have received a discount, instead of a previously-opened box with scotch tape on the factory seal.
Later when I was trying to print out some documentation for the return, I realized it had screwed my network up. So I restarted the LAN and it still wasn't easy, but I eventually got it on line after some more trial and error. Amazon needs to keep working on the interface in this regard; it's not even clear which method of adding a new Recast unit to the Fire TV system it is preferable, through the app or the on-screen interface. I went back and forth with both.
The experience isn't as intuitive as it should be, which is likely why I didn't get a 'new' (sealed) Recast. I wouldn't be surprised if BB has a bunch of perfectly good but unsealed (returned) units on hand. I can see why as I am pretty good with this stuff, and I still almost gave up. I'm happy I was able to get mine to finally work, and I hope I don't need BB's extended warranty. But I'm glad to have it this time around.

This unit was purchased to replace a Tivo OTA DVR when I got tired of paying Tivo's monthly fees. The Fire TV Recast does not charge the fees for programming information like Tivo does. The Recast allows me to get all the OTA programming in my area, and, in conjunction with a Fire TV stick, all the streaming content that I subscribe to. All managed from the Fire TV home screen. To this point, all is working well and I am very pleased. Setup is easy. You do need to have an OTA antenna and home wi-fi, but with those and the Recast and Fire TV stick, you can get up and going quickly. Highly recommended.

I wanted to cut the cable cord, but my biggest hesitation was that everything seemed to need hard wiring to the over the air antenna. The Recast actually solved my issue! I was able to set up my antenna in the best window for reception, and plug that right into the Recast. Simple as that, Any live TV I get can be streamed through my wifi to any FireTV capable TV in my house. I didn't have to run wires. I just had to log in with either a FireTV or a FireStick. I'm delighted.

Just as a note, this works with a fire tv or tv stick and a hd antenna that are not included. But actually allows for recording off broadcast. The only shortcoming is your channel access is based on what you can receive with the antenna.

As a backup to my cable TV DVD, I use this device to record TV programs received using an inexpensive antenna. The quality of the recording is surprisingly good. The user interface is not quite as easy to use as the cable TV DVD box, but it gets the job done. As a bonus, I can still watch and record TV programs during a power outage using a portable generator. If the cable service is down during a power outage, a generator can't bring it back to life, but it can power a TV connected to this device and an antenna.

This is going to be a godsend helping my father out. He just went to antenna TV and wanted to record shows. One complaint the fire stick and remote were a separate purchase. But once all set up and using Alexa from the remote, was real easy to use. I think im going to replace my roku with it.

So far so good with the exception Amazon no longer makes this product...which makes me a bit sad. I really like the idea of being able to record over the air live TV. The tuner is stronger than most and will pull in those stations you could not before. Issue with the different interface depending on the type of fire product used as it needs a TV with fire, tablet, stick, cube or whatever amazon has currently.

Purchased this when my Tivo's hard drive died. I like to record on air television, and this was a perfect fit - and without the monthly charges I was paying for the Tivo. Only have had it for a few weeks, but it has been great. Love that I only need one Recast for my house, and can still see all of my on-air and streaming channels on other devices. Lost one star because there is sometimes a lag on my on air channels, but I recognize that the problem may be my antenna.

I only returned because this version only had 2 tuners of which one was only for recording and one was only to watch live. I recommend the 1tb version. Luckily I got it on sale for 180. Fire tv app need to be improved.
