Steps count is not accurate

This is my first time using a tracker so I was excited and wore it for shopping. When I walked 10000 steps the app showed I did 15400 steps. My friend who walked along with me has an apple watch and that's how we compared.

Functionality is exactly what I need. Customer service at Fitbit was top notch in replacing my original purchase. Only hit was the defect that I experienced with the battery.
