1986 RE-MAKE VS 1958 ORIGINAL RELEASE. . . .

THE ORIGINAL 1958 RELEASE OF "THE FLY" WITH DAVID HEDISON, REMAINS THE CLASSIC VERSION OF THE STORY OF A SCIENTIST EXPERIMENTING WITH 'TELEPORTING' THAT, UNKNOWINGLY, HAS A HITCH-HIKER, A COMMON HOUSE FLY, ENTER HIS TELEPORTING CHAMBER AS HE STARTS TO TRANSPORT HIS BODY ACROSS HIS LABORATORY TO THE RECEIVING CHAMBER ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM. THE RESUTS ARE A PHENOMENON HE CANNOT REVERSE.
THIS 1986 RE-MAKE VERSION WITH JEFF GOLDBLUM, USES THE SAME STORY-LINE BUT ADDS THE MODERN DAY REQUISITE OF 'MORE HORROR' AND 'MORE GROSSNESS'! BOTH ARE EXCELLENT FILMS AND CHOOSING YOUR 'FAVORITE' OF THE TWO CAN BE DIFFICULT. MY SOLUTION . . . I BOUGHT BOTH VERSIONS FOR MY COLLECTION AND NOW CAN ENJOY BOTH, EQUALLY AS WELL, IN THEIR OWN RIGHT.

It's been decades since i watched this movie. So long ago i remembered nothing about it. I've always enjoyed everything i've seen with Jeff Goldblum in it. In this one he plays a man who claims to have made a great discovery. A discovery which will change the world. He discovers a way to revolutionize the transportation industry as we know it. In a moment of drunken anger he decides to take a leap forward in his experiment. Human testing. Well needless to say something goes wrong. Slowly his mentality begins to change. After that his body begins to mutate into something. That something being a mutant Fly. I thoroughly enjoy this movie. I'm glad i added it to my collection. My enjoyment has sparked an interest in the original. Also yes despite the heat these Day of the Dead SteelBooks are getting i like this one.

The remake of The Fly is the best! (spoiler alert)

This is one of my favorite movies and one of the most tragic love stories on the market. "Are we having a romance?" Yes... but that all comes to an end when he thinks that she went back to her ex, he gets drunk and angry and careless and sends himself through the pod, causing all of this.
I love the 2 disc set because it includes the bonus deleted scenes, including Monkey-Cat. This scene is important because without it, you don't realize that the machine does not KNOW HOW to keep the two animals DNA separated and fuses them. And without this scene, the foreshadowing of what is to come is completely missed.

David Hedison, the original "Fly", in the 50 ' s movie, is an old family friend. His first name is actually Albert, by the way. I personally haven't seen him in years. The last time being at his mother's wake and funeral. That was back in the 60's, if I remember correctly. So of course, I always loved the original movie! Most people did. It is regarded as "classic" sci-fi. That's why I really wanted to hate this remake but I couldn't! The movie is wonderful! Jeff Goldblum is great, as the "soon to be loony toons" scientist! The special fx are extraordinary, especially for the time and the story is so much better than the original! Highly recommended, for any sci-fi aficionado!!!

The Fly is a film that delves deeper into the viewer's subconscious than may initially be anticipated. Starting off comfortably within the realm of general science fiction, the film eventually spirals into a emotionally jarring and existentially pessimistic journey that will likely hit viewers harder than they anticipate. The blu-ray transfer of this film is excellent and I recommend The Fly quite highly to anyone with an interest in science fiction, horror and/or Franz Kafka.

Except for the excellent performances by Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, the story was marginally interesting. Worth seeing it for the aforementioned performances.

The Fly is a remake of a Vincent Price classic of the same name. This is a rare occasion where the remake is better than the original. This movie uses practical effects and nails the grossness and realism it is going for. Geena Davis is wonderfully great in this movie and do I even need to talk about Jeff Goldblum. Jeff Goldblum is always the best part of anything he is in. If you are a horror fan and have not seen The Fly, do so ASAP!

The film looks absolutely incredible and doesn't show its age at all on this Blu-ray. The film itself blew me away, with amazing practical effects that look more realistic than the best CGI and a bizarrely interesting story with two terrific leads in one of my new favorite films. For me, it stands alongside John Carpenter's The Thing as one of the great examples of how high quality a horror movie can be.

The Fly is a great movie that has become a classic. Not to mention that the original 1958 version is a classic itself, Jeff Goldblum and Gena Davis both give outstanding performances. The physical visual effects still hold up 34 years later. Watching it in Blu-ray format made it all the more better.

Considering the subject, this is a beautiful steel book and my favorite of the new horror release series BestBuy has put out. It looks even better in person than on the website. Product arrived quickly, well packaged and without any damage. Will be watching this one along with a few others as it gets closer to Halloween.

Classic 80's Sci-Fi/Horror Movie

A decent transfer of a classic 80's Sci-Fi /Horror film. Great performances by Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis. The Blu-ray presentation seems to be accurate for a film of it's time and budget. The movie has an overall dark atmosphere. The darker scenes may appear too grainy to the casual viewer and be mistaken for video noise. That is not the case. The appearance of grain is as expected for a film of its vintage and the dark interior shots and sets. I recommend this Blu-ray.

The Fly is both an artistic film and a gorey fun one. It tells a sophisticated tale of man seeking to perfect himself and the world leading to terrible consequences. But it also features Jeff Goldblum slowly and disgustingly turning into a fly monster. Cerebral, and scary, The Fly is a classic example of science fiction filmmaking.

I'm still partial to the original (big Vincent Price fan), but there is something to be said about Cronenberg's 80's remake. The blu-ray itself features average at best video and lossless audio - maybe inherent to the dated 80's source, or maybe could one day be improved by a loving remaster - but certainly watchable and above DVD quality. Nice wealth of bonus material and the price during Halloween season was excellent!

The Fly is a classic 80's sci-fi horror film that still holds up to this day as practical FX go. This is some of David Cronenberg's best work. Jeff Goldblum delivers an amazing performance and really draws you in and holds your attention. There is a subtle creepiness to it that builds into a more in your face approach as the film progresses. It is well thought out and well written. Highly recommended.

This is one of those movies that really goes over the top but that is to be expected from David Cronenberg. This is the standard blu-ray release that is common to all Fox releases of this film just repackaged in the new steelbook art. The movie still looks good.

Another great film by David Cronenberg!
It was dark, funny at times and gory!
I was very impress with Jeff's acting he goes from shy yet friendly scientist to mutated crazed person. And how his lab changes from nice relaxing room to a trashy filthy place.
And last the special effects were great like all of David's horror films.

Jeff is great and for the technology they had back then, its excellent! You must buy this film and watch how its progressed over the decades. There was a much earlier version. Just as great. Its a must have for Sci-Fi fans and movie lovers! Great story and film!!
