This watch is very snappy and responsive and was really easy to set up with your phone. Within the Wear OS app you can jump to your carrier site and easily add an LTE plan to make calls or stream music without your phone. That being said, it's speaker is very quiet on this phone. I had my call output set to phone and maxed my volume but it was still fairly faint. My caller on the other end however, said i was quite clear, so the microphone appears to be very good. It'd be handy in an emergency, but if your phone is with you, you're better off using speaker phone from your device or some headphones While the screen is a good size, the watch itself isn't overly bulky, so even if you've got smaller wrists, it likely wouldn't look out of place. it's nice having two shortcut buttons that you can program to commonly used features. They're offset and low profile a 2 and 4 o'clock which is good placement. My issue however is with the crown dial at 3 o'clock. This is where it loses a star for me. Instead of using a ring around the face of the watch, the 5G LTE uses a crown button/dial to scroll and select. It's easy to use, but its size is a little too large. I'm constantly triggering the google assistant popup accidentally when the crown presses on to the back of my hand. When leaning on anything or lifting my hand up for any task that results in my hand being perpendicular to my arm, its keeps starting it up. I could probably just disable the launching of it, but i use it often (when i mean to) If you are one that wears a watch on your right hand, this would be a non issue for you. That being said, while I'm constantly launching voice assist, in addition to many alerts per day (social media, email, text, etc), the battery life has been fantastic and never come close to dying on me. i could forget to charge overnight and will still have enough power to get me to work where i can top up quickly while sitting at my desk. On that note, it charges really fast.

Nice Watch Limited by Wear OS

Day-to-day I like using the Fossil Gen 5. It looks great, runs well, and has more than enough battery life to get me to the end of the day without ever having to think about it. Fossil did a good job on this watch and if I were reviewing just based on that I’d say it’s excellent, but the still limited app selection of Wear OS really holds it back, especially as an LTE watch, and that’s pretty disappointing. I still think there’s a lot to like here and if Google ever gets around to giving Wear OS the attention it deserves it could get even better. Getting into the box you get the watch, a black silicone strap, and a charging cable (no power brick included). The marketing photos make this look like a dark silver, but to me it’s pretty much black most of the time. It looks good though and the 45mm case fits my wrist well. In terms of features it ticks all the boxes. You get LTE, GPS, NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi, activity tracking, water resistance, and a speaker. The speaker is something I definitely missed with my previous Wear OS watch and I’m glad to have it here. The 45mm case may be big for some wrists, but it fits mine well and the display looks good (though it can be a little hard to see in direct bright sunlight). In terms of processing power you get the older Snapdragon 3100 and 1GB of RAM. My previous Wear OS watch also used the 3100, but only had 512MB of RAM and the difference is noticeable (more on that later). It’s not lacking in the spec department, but I do wish Fossil could have made the jump to the newer Snapdragon 4100 as the 3100 is already a couple years old at this point and wasn’t even that much of an upgrade of the 2100 before it. Wearing the watch on my wrist this past week it’s been very comfortable. It’s not overly heavy and I don’t notice it most of the time. The included silicone strap looks good and doesn’t irritate my skin. The strap can also be replaced by any 22mm watch band and I was able to swap in a brown leather strap from another Fossil watch I owned no problem. Performance has been solid and besides the occasional delay launching an app I have not noticed any delays or stutters. The 1GB of RAM seems to make all the difference here and it feels like a night and day difference from my last watch. Battery life has also been excellent and with light to moderate usage I’m usually ending the days with at least 50% battery. The LTE functionality is good and I was able to make and receive calls completely untethered from my phone without any problems. The built-in speaker is loud and clear and the people I called all said that I sounded good talking through the watch. Text messaging seems to work a little bit different in that it does require your phone to be on and connected to cellular to work, but you can still be physically somewhere else with your watch. This was not the case with phone calls and I could make those whether my phone was on or off. Something to be aware of. Wear OS is a well designed system and navigating around via the gestures or the crown makes it easy to interact with. You get most of the apps you need pre-installed in terms of fitness of tools and utilities, which is good considering the lack of additional first party apps available for Wear OS at the moment. One pretty disappointing omission for me though is Google’s own YouTube Music app, which is baffling especially when you also consider YouTube Music has an Apple Watch app. I can still play and control music via my phone, but not being able to untether from my phone if I wanted to go on a run or hike is a pretty big miss for an LTE watch. If you use Spotify, iHeartRadio, or Pandora you’re covered, but that’s it. This boils down to my issues with Wear OS in general and how I wish it wasn’t so neglected by Google and other developers. If it isn’t YouTube Music for you I’m sure it’s some other app. I knew this going in, but it’s disappointing that it’s still a problem all these years later. So overall I like Fossil Gen 5 LTE, but it’s held back by the same old Wear OS issues. I think Fossil made a really good watch here and most of the issues I've had aren't really anything they can remedy. I still think it’s a good value for an LTE watch and if you can utilize that dedicated cellular connection and are cognizant of Wear OS’ current limitations there is a case to be made for the Gen 5 LTE.

I have been using the Fossil Gen 5 LTE for about a week now after using Samsung watches for years. This is a very nice watch if you are patient, new to smartwatches, or are a huge fan of Google’s Wear OS. The craftmanship is fantastic, screen is bright and easy to read, silicone band is very comfortable, great LTE signal, and accurate GPS. The various battery modes are very convenient and include nice insights of what features will be turned off to extend the battery in smart modes well over 3 days, and a mode for “time only” that claims to extend the battery life to almost a month! Setting the watch up with Verizon Number Share was quick and easy. These pros outweigh the cons of this smartwatch, which are almost entirely the fault of Wear OS and a fairly quiet built-in speaker for calls. The speaker is still very usable in quieter areas or for quick calls on the go without your phone, but if you plan on using this watch often for phone-less calls, you will be delighted with how easy it is to connect Bluetooth headphones and earbuds! The crown is pleasant to use for navigation, but it takes a little while to stop accidently activating Google Assistant every time your hand goes flat on a surface. I found myself not relying too heavily on the on-board LTE, as I usually do have my phone with me, but the integration of it offers the option of going for runs, walks, or bike rides without needing to find a spot to tuck your phone away. In this sport capacity, this watch works great and is very handy to be able to leave your phone behind and still listen to Spotify or Pandora while Google Fit or Strava track your workout! Overall, this is a very nicely built watch, with a lot of very nicely crafted Fossil watch faces included, great battery life while using the preset extended battery mode and excellent 4G LTE signal! If you’re looking for a nicely built watch with built in LTE that integrates nicely into Google’s ecosystem of apps and service, this may be the choice for you!

This Fossil Watch Gen5 LTE was easy to set up. It came with easy-to-follow instructions. I was easily able to connect it to my Verizon account after I downloaded the "Wear OS by Google" app. After setup, the app prompted me to connect to my Verizon account. It walked me through set up and gave a little tutorial of how to operate it. After playing around with the watch for a few minutes I was easily able to figure out how to use it. No learning curve whatsoever. Accepting and placing calls was simple and straight forward. Voice was clear on both sides of the conversation. Setting up Google fit to track steps and heart rate was also easy and I found it very accurate. Changing the digital watch face design was as easy as it should be and using the Google assistant to place calls and texts not only worked great but it was very handy, especially on a watch since typing on such a small device is not an easy task and is usually inconvenient. Mind you that the word small here is relative because for some wrists, this watch is too big. Although she liked it, “it does look awkwardly big on my small wrist”. My daughter’s own words. Although comfortable to me, she complained about the weight too. “Maybe with a thinner strap it might look more feminine and like it fits. It's also heavy so slides around some unless I wear it very tight.” Good thing here is that we both liked the overall rounded look as well as the functionality and features. Great for active people like us and the available apps are easily downloaded and the ones we tried were all useful. We both recommend it with the above notes to consider.

The Fossil Gen 5 watch is a great companion to your smartphone. In fact, it can replace many of the most frequent things you do without the need to have your phone nearby at all. Messaging and calls without having to have your phone near at all is very freeing. If you haven't used a smartwatch previously, it definitely can feel like you're in the future by taking a call on the watch. That feeling is amplified with a smartwatch that has LTE built in. Beyond the simple freedom of having LTE on the smartwatch, this watch looks and feels great. It handles most things you'd expect a smartwatch to do, and I think it does them pretty well. Fitness tracking seems to be accurate and easy to use. Step tracking- which is what I imagine is the most common task people would like a smartwatch to handle - works very well and is easy to keep an eye on in the Google Fit app. If you haven't used a watch based on Google's Wear OS before, I think they handle notifications better than other watch platforms. They're informative and the Gen 5 makes them very easy to interact with. When it comes to taking calls, the speaker quality seems very good, and those I spoke to said they had no trouble hearing me clearly. Though, you'll likely want to hold your watch fairly close while speaking. The biggest limitation of this watch would probably be battery life. It's pretty decent to where I can get around a day and a half with pretty heavy use. This includes the always-on display option, tilt-to-wake gesture, NFC and "Ok Google" detection turned on. The watch has some battery modes that can dramatically increase the battery life by disabling a few features. These modes will disable a few features to help squeeze more battery life out, and they do a good job of extending the battery life if you find yourself out with the battery getting low. You can even have these modes changed based on the battery level. I personally don't mind just charging the watch each night, but others may not. If you're looking for in a fully-featured smartwatch, including the ability to take calls without your phone, this should definitely be on your radar. Pros: Great looking, lightweight, lots of features, smart battery modes, LTE connectivity Cons: Battery life may not work for some (though I think it does pretty well, and the battery modes can help extend it)

The Fossil Get 5 LTE! Out of the box, you get the watch, magnetic charger (that requires a USB A charging block) and an instruction booklet. Setting up the watch is also quite fast and will require Wear OS app. Within 10 minutes, i was up and running with the watch. Connecting the watch to my Verizon plan was also quite a breeze through the Wear OS app. Just follow the steps provided and you can create an additional line for the watch on your Verizon wireless plan. Once that is done, you can use Number Share feature in the verizonwireless.com web app to connect your mobile phone’s number to the watch (this way you get all calls forwarded to the phone as well). I wasn’t able to use the My Verizon app to do this part for Number Share as that feature was either missing or not easily accessible. Onto performance, the watch itself does not lag and all notifications come in concurrently with my phone. I haven’t noticed any lag or performance hits thus far! Battery life on the other hand is not so great… I barely manage to eek out 22 hours while in the Daily mode (probably because i get a lot of notifications throughout the day). If using the Extended mode (which limits some functionality such as always having the watch face on), then you can get more life out of your battery. Since i like having the screen on, i usually leave it in the Daily mode and charge it every night. The watch is able to make and receive calls! The microphone is quite exceptional, as people on the other end always hear me pretty crystal clear. The speaker on the watch is quite tiny and it produces enough sound when holding to your face; without it being close to your face, you won’t be able to hear people on the other end when making calls. So far, the watch has been great and is quite speedy! If there is anything i could change, it would be for better battery life if i want to go multiple days in the Daily mode! Highly recommend this for anyone that is looking for a stylish smart watch!

Within the last few years, I have owned 4 smart watches. With each year they keep getting better. So, when I heard the watchmaker Fossil was in the smartwatch game, I just knew I needed to get my hands on one of their watches, For the last week I was testing the Fossil Gen 5 Smartwatch with LTE. Overall, I think it has great hardware, but the software needs some work. Setup was simple. Just like with any other smartwatch, I had to install a companion app that walked me through the setup process. In this case it was the Wear OS app. The app connected my phone to the watch and synced all my accounts with just a few taps. I was also able to use the app to add the watch to my Verizon account since it also had LTE capability. The whole process took about 15 minutes. The hardware and watch strap are top notch. The version I have comes with a black 44mm watch body and a 22mm black silicone strap. The whole setup felt noticeably light and comfortable on my wrist. As you can see from one of my pictures it is the same size and shape as any other fossil watch. This is the first smartwatch that I have owned that feels like a normal watch. As for performance, the watch performs very well. There is a built-in speaker and microphone for phone calls and when I was connected via Bluetooth, the watch worked great. I received all my notifications; I was able to answer calls and reply to texts. Most times the watch would receive calls and notifications about half a second faster than my phone. When I left the phone home and connected via LTE, I was still able to send and receive phone calls and notifications, but I was not able to receive text messages. I would say 90% of my phone conversations are via text message so this was a huge let down and meant I really could not untether myself from my phone. As for call quality, I would say that the watch performed acceptably. If I were in a room by myself, I could clearly hear the person I called, and they could hear me. But if I were outside riding a bike or in a moving car, the ambient noise would overpower the watch microphone and speaker. The battery life was also acceptable. The watch was easily able to get me 24 hours of use before needing a charge and If I made use of the other battery modes, I could almost get two days of use. Charging speed was also rather good. When my battery was at 7% it only took about an hour and a half to get back to 100 percent. Other than the things I just mentioned, there was one stand out feature that had me amazed and one that really disappointed me. The touch sensor on the screen is the best I ever used. Whenever I used the watch to type messages the screen picked up the exact letter I was trying to press. I have not used any other smartwatch that was as accurate as this one. Then there was the one thing that highly disappointed me. Since his watch has LTE, Bluetooth and 8 gigs of storage naturally I would think it can also be used as a media player. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I can pair the watch to headphones but there is no app for streaming or downloading music. With Spotify all I can do is control the music on my phone or another device. With that being said, I do like this watch and would recommend it as a smart watch. However, the only upside to LTE is being able to make phone calls and receive notifications but that is about it.

I wanted an Android Watch for my Samsung phone but never really felt that I needed one. I was curious with the Fossil Gen 5 LTE Smart Watch, as I used to wear regular Fossil watches in the past. I gave this a try and was pleased with most of the features of this watch. After a few weeks of trying it out, here are my thoughts. At first glance, the Fossil Gen 5 LTE Smart Watch is a beauty. The round face is not too large for my skinny wrist, and the band is adjustable and comfortable. There is the Dial and 2 buttons that are found on the right side, each with it’s own functionality: the top button activates the Phone Screen where you can use the dial option to input a phone number, call history, contacts and settings. The lower button brings you into the Google Fit screen where you can utilize various ways to track your fitness. You recognize immediately that this Fossil watch encourages you to stay fit and you can track Workout Goals, Metrics, Heart Rate through various activities: Walking, Running, Biking, Treadmill Running, Stationary Biking, Elliptical, Strength Training, High Intensity Interval Training, Yoga, and Other Workouts that can be added (Australian Football, Aerobics, Backcountry Skiing, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Beach Vollyball, Biathlon, Biking, Boxing, etc.) Again, so much focus on activity! The middle dial serves as the Home Button and you as you turn it, it scrolls the list on your screen. Holding down the Dial for 2 seconds activates Google Assistant. Setting it up was straight forward. I was required to first install Wear OS which then guides you to the installation/connection process. What was great is that you are able to connect this with your Google Home devices as well as Toyota Remote. Sadly, the Toyota Remote was very inconsistent. Going through the Google Play Store, you are limited on what apps are available to download. Although the Google Play Store for the watch leaves much to be desired, I was really impressed with my daily usage of this watch. As with any smart watch (my wife has the Apple Watch 6), you have different purposes when swiping in different directions. Swiping “up” gives you the latest Notifications. “Down” gives you the Watch Menu where you can adjust Volume, Battery Modes, Find my Phone, Screen Off, Night Time and Airplane Mode. You also can see the Bluetooth Connection and Battery Percentage. Swiping “Right” and you are met with a host of Google Assistant: Calendar, Ask Google, Interesting Facts, and Quote of the Day (this is really neat!). Finally, swiping “Left” brings you to your Call History, Dial phone numbers and Contact List. Depending on what personalized Face you are using will bring different options on the screen. For example, I enjoy using “Machine” which has a traditional looking clock, hands and 4 changeable smart tools. I like having the Phone, Battery Level, and Steps there. These are interchangeable to fit your personal wants. I even found a Magic 8 Ball face. Where I feel this watch exceeds any Apple Watch is the display when using as a phone call or text messaging, or receiving notifications. The screen is 1.28" AMOLED display, 416 x 416 with 328ppi and it is a beauty to the eyes. The screen area is large and I am able to see more of any message or see the notifications better. Especially if I am driving, I don’t squint my eyes when looking at my watch because the real estate is so large. When I see my wife using her watch, she brings it closer to her face to read the notifications. I’m glad I don’t have to do that with the Fossil. Where I noticed the main drawback is the battery life. I wake up at 6:30 in the morning, I put my watch on and then get ready for work. By the time I am downstairs at 7am the battery is already at 97%. By the time I am done with the day and put the watch back on the charger around 8pm, the watch battery is around 40%. Fossil says you can have 24hr through the Extended Mode, whereas I am using the Daily Mode. Overall, I am really impressed and happy with the Fossil Gen 5 LTE watch. It is a great compliment to my Samsung Smart Watch.

Major upgrade to the Fossil smartwatch line

Finally, after the Google acquisition of Fossil to have a competitor against other well-established manufacturers in the smartwatch market, they have produced a beautifully designed smart watch in the new Fossil Gen 5 LTE watch. I have been waiting years for an update to the Google Wear OS line of watches that sets itself apart from other manufacturers because, in my opinion, the competition has really been lacking in that department which, in turn, the consumer ultimately suffers. With the new Fossil Gen 5 LTE smartwatch, I think they are finally on the right track to take on the competition. After charging and during the initial set up of the watch, you will be prompted to download the Google Wear OS application through the Google Play Store on your smart device (phone or tablet) and sync your Google account to the watch via a Bluetooth connection. Once the watch is set up, which only took a few minutes, it goes through a short tutorial on how to use the main functions of the watch by swiping in all direction and using the three side buttons; you can also see this tutorial through their website which was useful to see how the watch functions prior to actual use. You are prompted to set up the LTE connection through the Wear OS application which will sync to the Verizon network using number share if you have a compatible Android phone with the My Verizon Services application on the Verizon network. If you do not, you are still able to use the watch on a Bluetooth connection but not a standalone device on an LTE network. I have always preferred the look of a round watch face over the square face, however, I think many people, including myself, would argue the functionality of a square face smartwatch tends to function better and have more usable screen space for certain purposes including a larger viewable area and easier to type. The viewable, round and bright 1.28” AMOLED watch face is large enough to read and type, even for someone like me who has terrible up-close vision. You can adjust the brightness automatically or manually and even set it up to detect daylight to make it easier to view when the sun is out. The scrolling between screens is very responsive and fluid. You can adjust the font size to a certain point, and, for some, that might still not be large enough when trying to read text messages, emails, etc. The smartwatch screen options, mostly accessible through the watch itself and through the Wear OS app, are customizable including the faces, what is displayed on the screen, the order certain shortcuts may appear while scrolling, quick buttons for workouts, and much more. The notifications on the watch, including texts, emails, news, etc. is almost simultaneous to them showing up on your phone. You can customize notifications including sounds, vibration and what notifications appear on your watch. You can also password protect the watch if you prefer. The battery lasts more than a day with moderate to heavy use. You can adjust the battery usage using the Smart Battery Modes in settings including a multi-day extended mode and toggling the always-on display. I have always made it a habit to charge my smartwatch overnight so that has never been an issue. The battery charges using the included magnetic cable and will charge almost fully in about an hour. There is 8GB of built-in memory that you can use to store media or additional apps. In my opinion, one of the most impressive functions of the watch is the fitness tracking, specifically during a workout. During setup, you have the option to set fitness goals which would equate to heart points in the Google Fit app on your smartphone profile. I have done everything from running, bike riding, stationary bike and strength training using the watch. I was surprised during the strength training when the watch somehow knew, or made an inclined guess, as to which type of exercise I was performing. The watch learned from my input if the first guess was incorrect and adjust for the next time I made a certain motion. I was able to keep track of the number, weight and time of my reps during the workout and at the end it uploaded those results to my profile in the Google Fit application. You can also opt for coaching and a voice assistant through the Fit app. On top of all that, you can have the watch and app track your steps, heart rate, weight, sleep, etc. With the Fossil Gen 5 LTE, the first stand alone LTE watch in the Google OS market, I believe they set a strong foundation to build on and believe what they currently have going for them is a huge step in the right direction to compete with others in the smartwatch market. It takes some time to figure out everything the Fossil Gen 5 LTE smartwatch is capable of but, in my opinion, more customizable options is typically better when it comes to technology; you can customize this watch to be as simple or as complex as you wish depending on your needs. It is also nice to know with the LTE option you have another way to communicate and get notifications if you leave your phone behind.

Fossil Gen 5 LTE Smartwatch! I have had the Fossil 5 LTE Smartwatch for about a week now, this is not my 1st smartwatch, but it will be my daily wear. The LTE is a great option for a smartwatch, using the number share program lets you use your existing line on your watch and not have to worry about carrying around a phone. With us always needing to be reached, being able to leave my phone in the truck is a great option when you are out on the lake, playing golf or just on a run. When making and receiving phone calls the speaker is great and only a couple of times did someone tell me there was a lot of background noise, also the use of a Bluetooth headset is an option. The Gen 5 uses the Google wear app to monitor the watch, it is kind of limited compared to other brands, it might be better for Fossil to develop its own apps like Samsung, to stay in competition with the other smartwatches. I seem to look for third party apps to fill the void from using strictly google wear. One such app that is a real benefit for me is called Lefty, which will switch the watch face around for a left-handed person to wear on their right wrist. This puts the controls are on the outside of the watch face, like you would have for a right-handed person. Use of the watch is straight forward, tapping, swiping, or using the spinning crown makes getting to your apps and notifications a breeze. Swipe to the right and there is google assistant. Swipe up and there are your past notifications. Swipe to the left and there are your tiles. And Swipe down for your settings. There are hundreds of apps to download to your watch and with the amount of storage, downloading them should not be an issue. Listening to music or a book on tape, can be done by the speaker on the watch or by connected Bluetooth headphones/ear buds. The built-in speaker is ok for listening to music, I don’t think we would try to rate it compared to a lot of the high-end headphones, but it’s easy and doesn’t take up any space. You can also connect the watch to some of those high-end headphones and listen to your hearts content. I am looking forward to my up coming vacation, where I will really enjoy the navigation and hiking apps. I am hoping that they will help from getting lost and I will be able to follow my digital bread crumbs out. . I've seen People saying they aren't impressed with this watch but I love it. I love the design and the performance of this watch. I switched from an apple watch series 7 and this is by far my preference. Don't let the low ratings influence your decision too much. I went back and forth between this and the Google pixel watch and in my mind this is the go to smart watch.

Very easy to set up. I have a google phone and it syncs perfectly. Has cool watch faces that show music, workouts, weather. The buttons on the side can be confusing but the watch face is all integrated and can work the watch without the buttons. The face can look analog as well and less techi. It’s not sluggish or glitchy. Charging is easy and fairly quick. I suggest finding a way to protect the glass face. It’s a little large for females in my opinion. Overall a really nice watch that work well with google phones and can be used with Verizon for calls.

I purchased this as an early father's day gift for my husband. It looks great and works great. I really like fossil watches and this one doesn't disappoint. It is simple to set up and operate. The fitness and sleep tracker along with the ability to make and take phone calls and messages are great qualities for me.

It is a good smartwatch; it is just heavy on my wrist.

It's a shame fossil got out of the smartwatch game. This smartwatch does everything I could want it to. The only issue is it sometimes glitches out which is fixed by simply rebooting the watch

I didn't realize the watch was so advance. I'm a baby-Bommer 1 with some computer savvy. I like the idea of the watch, e.g. answering phone calls...But I haven't found enough simplictic instructional information about how to operate all its features. It's a pretty feminine watch though, cute.
