A different approach about a body switching movie. Had some brutal deaths.

Does anyone recall a 1976 Disney film (remade in 2003), called Freaky Friday, in which a teenager's mind ends up in her Mom's head (a reverse exchange happens to Mom), producing wacky, family-friendly hijinks?
Well, 2020's Freaky isn't *that* film. That said, that's not a bad thing, either.
A blend of comedy and horror, Freaky gives us a few days in the life of one Millie Kessler, unpopular girl and human doormat at school, and estranged from her alcoholic Mom at home, running afoul of a serial killer previously thought to be an urban legend, a killer armed with a cursed, centuries-old dagger stolen from one of his victim's homes, one with the supernatural power to cause one person's consciousness to exchange places with another's, a condition which will become permanent unless proper steps are taken to reverse it before midnight on Friday the 13th.
That said, the time needed to undo the damage gives the killer (now in Millie's head) time to cause no shortage of carnage, carnage made much easier by the fact that nobody suspects a mousy character like Millie (never mind that she's now dressed to kill--literally *and* figuratively speaking) of being capable of atrocities.
And given the abuse she gets in school, the victims (queen bees, jocks, heavy-handed teachers) are not ones whose bizarre fates attract sympathy from the audience. Nevertheless, this state of affairs can't go on indefinitely.
Which means Millie has to fall back on the two friends she has, to resolve the crisis. Which is easier said than done, as Millie's soul is in the killer's body; his publicly-known physical appearance understandably makes it difficult to approach her paranoid pals (as well as a high school crush she's too shy to approach under normal conditions). Or to hide from law enforcement, such as her older sister, a police officer.
As I said earlier, it's a little hard to define Freaky as either humor or horror, as it freely uses a bit of both, as Millie and friends race against time to undo the curse, the inevitable misunderstandings resulting from body (and gender) swaps either providing fodder for laughter--or cringes.
(By the way, as a Wisconsinite, I'm amused by Freaky's shout-out to our state. I won't name names, but a certain figure mentioned about an hour in has been very much in national news, recently.)
The poignant domestic drama between Millie and her Mom (her dad long gone) separates this film from the average slasher film, giving it a little more heart than usual, making one emotionally invested in a cast the audience hopes won't die. In this respect, it's similar to the Happy Death Day films, which-- like this movie--are also directed by Christopher Landon.
My only nitpick about the film, however, is similar to one I had to 1999's Idle Hands: A lead whose body is possessed by an evil force that carries out murders, but no thought is given to the fact that, win or lose, the evil still committed murders with the body in question, leaving behind fingerprints and DNA that police may well connect to the innocent possessed person. Yes, Millie--at one point--does ponder telling law enforcement "a version of the truth" about the ordeal, but it's still hard for me to imagine what one might say to a judge! Beyond that, I can't complain all that much about the bulk of the film.
PS: Despite having seen Kathryn Newton (who plays Millie) on the TV show, Supernatural, from 2014 to 2018 (as Claire Novak), it took me awhile to put two and two together, and realize that she was also the lead in this movie, a pleasant surprise.

One of the best horror films I have seen released in recent years. Love the twist on Freaky Friday. Excellent to see Vince Vaughn in this type of genre

Freaky is a great horror flick. Freaky isn't going to break any new ground or set any genre defining standards. With that said, I was able and willing to set aside its minor flaws and enjoy it.
The story is decent and a little corny at times, but I enjoyed the entertainment value of this film. As a Horror fan, I keep an open mind, and give every Horror Film a chance. I've been disappointed quite a few times, but from time to time, I come across a film that is good enough to satisfy my Horror craving.
Prior to purchasing this film, I rented it. I would suggest renting this film before purchasing it. Freaky isn't going to be for everyone, so check it out on rental, and if you like it, then this film is worth adding to your library.

Freaky Friday?

Freaky comes to us with a hilariously dark fresh take on an old formula. ie. Freaky Friday, Vice Versa, Like Father Like Son, Dream a Little Dream, 18 Again, All of Me, 13 Going on 30, Big, etc... (you get the idea) The old body swapping genre. Well, if you're into horror, than you're in for a pleasant surprise! Freaky is such a fun ride that definitely delivers! Vince Vaughn gives an incredible performance like you've never seen him before. Check it out!

I never saw the trailer for this movie so I made my decision to purchase based on the box cover. We have all seen this before, two people get switched into each other's bodies and they need to do something to switch back or the swamp is permanent. Not expecting much, this movie was entertaining. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much.
The disc also contains commentary track, deleted scenes, and documentaries

This is an adult slasher comedy film for adults only! If this is
the sort of film you like to see, this is for you. Shoving the wine
bottle in one of the victims mouth and throat, was gruesome!
There were some comedy scenes when the student and the serial
killer switched bodies. Vince Vaughn doing a cheerleader scene
and etc. If you are a slasher film freak, this is for you.

Freaky is the word for this fun, well written movie that reminds me of the funny and fast moving, “Happy Death Day” movies. Full of humor and thrills! The chemistry between Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton in the roles of killer and High School girl are superb and each actor catches the nuances of the character that invaded their physical body to perfection. Loved it!

Ok. Uh...this movie took me for quite a ride! If you like Vince Vaughn, you'll LOVE this movie! If you hate Vince Vaughn, you'll LOVE this movie! He stole this movie 100% and did not let us forget it. Kathryn Newton did an amazing job as the initial protagonist but, Vince really took the cake. This is a must-see for any horror fans and comedy fans alike!

the title says it all! its an overall fun and hilarious movie!
at first i just thought that it was going to be a rip off from freaky friday since its pretty much the same concept, but in the end the premise of having a killer switch bodies with a weak fragile girl just turned into pure gory fun!
seriously this movie its just too good to be passed by!

Kathryn Newton & Vince Vaughn are a great team in this. It mixes suspense and comedy; and the original release of this product was offered with an embossed slipcase. This is a movie where the main actors switch character roles; so this form of comedy may not appeal to all. This movie is quite pricey and is rarely on sale.

This movie was just fun from the get go. Seeing Vince Vaughn acting like a teen girl is too funny. Seeing the teen girl possessed by the serial killer was even more fun. Due to what language this will let use I can't give great examples. I had a blast with this flick. Best blind buy of the last few years for me.

This movie is so much fun. A great horror comedy. Vince Vaughn is outstanding in this body swap movie. The director of the Happy Death Day movies returns with an even stronger film. This movie does what the Death Day movies did not do, and that’s making the deaths bloodier and goes for the R rating.

A movie that has the violence turned up in unique ways, ironically a feel good message overall and doesn’t muddy itself with trying to explain or give some rhyme or reason to its lore. Simple cuts to the chase and endlessly entertaining.

Great addition to our Halloween movie collection. We find Vince Vaughn hilarious as always. We like movies that are easy to follow, since we spend a lot of time in the kitchen/living room area doing chores and such. Entertaining take on the high school slasher genre.

"Freaky" is from the same team that created "Happy Death Day." If you're a fan of HDD, then you'll enjoy the same level of humor, gore, and action. Using the Freaky Friday bodyswap formula in a horror movie makes the formula feel fresh.
