I've adored this new rendition of the Fruits Basket story, which is apparently far more faithful to the original manga. While shoujo shows typically skew to female audiences and may be romance-centric at times, that is not the case with this show. There are twinges of such things threaded throughout the show, but they are by no means its primary focus. Tohru Honda represents in her character the kind of relationship most all of us desire at some point in our lives, that is, someone that cares for and support us and champions us living out our lives as the people we are, not some facsimile of who they think we should be. Her compassion is the central character and theme in this story, and they influence her every encounter with the other characters in funny, heartfelt, intimate, and tear-jerking ways. Highly recommended!

Continuing with season one, this updated anime of the original Fruits Baskets is not to be missed. The characters and stories are entertaining, the animation is beautiful and this anime has heart.
