Great movie and sold at a great price. Would buy again

A real action packed movie from the beginning to end. The beginning boot camp scenes are very generous with profanity but that's the way it was and with good reason I think. At this time in history the young men facing the horrific challenges of the Vietnamese war were subjected to harsh treatment as a means of preparing them for the cruelty they would face in combat. If you see the film you'll understand the limits that stress can put on the human spirit. This movie was pretty realistic and dealt with a mans ability to adapt to a terrible situation. Some don't make it and should not be put into combat situations. The dvd was very high quality and could only have been enhanced had it been in 3D.

This is a good quality HD transfer of a modern classic film. In the Kubrick tradition, it's well photographed and impeccably cast. I think for this type of movie the FHD transfer should hold up for a good while yet, with little real need to hold out for a 4k version.

Full Metal Jacket is one of the greatest war movies ever made and is also one of Stanley Kubrick's best films! R. Lee Ermey gives a terrific performance along with the cast of all the other characters! Matthew Modine as Private Joker is featured throughout the movie and acts as the narrator as the movie progresses. The movie follows him as he begins his life as a Marine in basic training and follows him after graduating and shipped off to fight in Vietnam. The language used and character depictions are dead on, especially at the time the Vietnam War was happening. Rolling Stone even rates this a top 20 movie of the 1980's. This is a must see!

Really nice steelbook even though it's not Limited Edition. The movie was shot on 35mm so they are wonderful 4k transfers. No Dolby ATMOS track on this one being an older movie. I love the covers on these steelbooks. It being a Stanley Kubrick film you can't go wrong. I would definitely pick this one up. I've seen it on sale here on Best Buy so when it's on sale it's a no brainer. I'm sure you'll want to be the first kid on the block with this one.

If you have seen this movie, then there is nothing more to say except it is now in Blue-Ray. If you haven't seen this movie & you like Military movie's with real plots, what rock have you been hiding under? Full Metal Jacket is an absolute classic. R.Lee Ermy if you don't already know was a Marine. He may have been acting, but it was just from memory of the real thing. There have not been many good Vietnam era war movies produced, but this one is one of the best! An absolute must see. I have watched it every time it comes on TV, now I can watch it anytime I want! A MUST OWN for any military movie collection!

I think it's pretty well established that every scene in every Kubrick film is there for a reason. Now we have everything on bluray, we can see them in even more detail and know for sure that, just like in The Shining, Kubrick is playing with spatial awareness. Watch the 'battle' scenes and you'll see that soldiers have apparent huge continuity "errors" regarding the positioning of walls and windows. Getting to the bottom of why Kubrick did this is half the fun. Unlike the original DVD release, this one is packed full of extras that you'll actually want to watch more than once

Actually a two-part story: part one takes place at Parris Island basic training; part two jumps right into the war in Vietnam. Only the protagonist, Pvt Joker (Modine), and one other character carry over from pt 1 to pt 2. I have read elsewhere that Kubrick filmed in full-screen , and wanted that aspect (1.33:1) for home viewing. But for today's wide-screen TVs, it's nice to be able to view in wide-screen aspect (1.85:1), like in the theatrical run.

This movie is excellent. I love war movies and I definitely see this movie as a win! It’s funny at times, but it also shows the horrors of war and the challenges that come with it. The whole movie is great, the first and the second half are amazing! Steelbook is awesome too! Happy to have it in the collection.

What can I say, it's Stanley Kubrick. If you have to read a review of a Kubrick film, I don't where to begin. The 13 films in Stanley's selective career is a cornerstone of American (and English) cinema. Most of his films are regarded as being among the most important ever made in the medium. "Full Metal Jacket", is certainly among this list. Along with Cimino's "The Deer Hunter" and Coppola's "Apocalypse Now!", this film also ranks as one of the greatest films based on the Vietnam conflict. 10/10, 5 Stars, all the way. A masterpiece.

Probably one of the best Vietnam War based movies. Have had Marine Corps ‘Nam vets tell me the boot camp 1/2 of the movie was fairly realistic. That is probably due to the late R Lee Ermey’s performance. Definitely a movie you can watch again and again.

Nice presentation from both the steelbook packaging to the film's video transfer. On the front of the steelbook, I like the spot gloss on the soldier's shades. My favorite Vietnam war film. I think it's a classic of it's kind from the great Stanley Kubrick. Hard to believe that Lee Ermey, who played the tough-as-nails sargeant, was not the first choice for the role.

As long as there is a disc, digital copy, and a steelbook option, this will stay 5 stars. The design of the case is awesome. The only "bad thing to say is the quality really doesnt look improved (which if you don't know anything about film, you would think is a given) even though many movies are specifically rescanned in 4k with HDR, and I just don't see that this one was.

There is no need to speak of what a great film this is. That being said the transfer in the picture quality in 4K is phenomenal. I am two other copies of this movie one on DVD and one on Blu-ray. The 4K transfer blows the Blu-ray transfer away. It is most noticeable in the second part of the film during the Vietnam scenes.I am completely satisfied with my purchase.

Call of Duty video games got me into this movie and one other war movie was 2 thumbs up is Act of Valor that movie made me cry at the end. This war movie was about a soldier who was put down by higher up and that he couldn't do anything on his own, he had a buddy that took him under his wing and help him out. The soldier started to do things on his own and to prove to himself that he could become a good soldier, but at the end he lost it. you'll have to buy the movie to see what happens.

Always a good classic movie to have. Awesome......

This is truly Stanley Kubricks masterpiece...the way he invisioned the Vietnam war, they way it should be shown is extremely extraordinary. every actor in the film made it look so realistic in every way. this film has so much diversity, best acting performances and the whole plot is what makes it an unique film. I would see it over and over again, now that I own it. this is why, this Blu Ray version of Full Metal jacket is amongst my favorite in my vast library of DVD's and Blu-Rays.

Great movie and great price! I was delighted to see how many deals this time of year were available in the store. Especially since trying to keep a budget. The movie Full Metal Jacket is one of the greatest military movies of all time. Matthew Modine did an outstanding job as did the drill sergeant during basic training. I’ll definitely be shopping Best Buy in the future for additional great deals.

This is a really well done movie that is filmed and acted well and provokes lots of thoughts about the nature of war, the military, and the nature of relationships formed in those areas. I will say this movie is not for those with a faint heart due to very mature material on all fronts. I think one strength of the movie is how it portrays and deals with these are real parts of life, but if you're trying to avoid those, this isn't the movie for you.
