Excellent movie
||Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This is such a great and classic movie. It’s been a number of years since I saw it last, but this is the best it has ever looked. The picture quality looks fantastic in 4K. Very clean and detailed image especially in the first half. The second half of the movie has a little more grain, but still looks great. HDR brings new life to the scenes and makes this look like it was recently filmed. The SteelBook looks awesome as well.

Damaged
||Posted .I love the movie but I hated my shipping experience. The movie came to my house and the case was cracked as was the disc itself so I had to return it.

Whole Movie is a War Classic
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Almost everyone who has seen Full Metal Jacket loves the first half in basic training, with R. Lee Ermey as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman destroying and building back up young men into vicious killers, and the consequential mental breakdown of Private Leonard "Gomer Pyle" Lawrence, played fantastically by Vincent D'Onofrio. Half of viewers then tune out in the second half, when the protagonist, Private "Joker", is deployed to Vietnam, as it's much slower and bleaker. While it is no "Apocalypse Now", the second half does a great job of showing the results of the Vietnam War on both Vietnam the country and the psyches of combatants on both sides. In 4K with HDR, the details of the sets and outdoor shots give the film an even better look than before. If you watched it before and only remember liking the first half, I suggest giving it another shot. If you've never seen it before, behind "The Shining" it makes for a pretty good intro movie into Stanley Kubrick's filmography.

Good transfer, classic film
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This is a good quality HD transfer of a modern classic film. In the Kubrick tradition, it's well photographed and impeccably cast. I think for this type of movie the FHD transfer should hold up for a good while yet, with little real need to hold out for a 4k version.

Stanley Kubrick's Vietnam war masterpiece
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed. If you're not familiar with Full Metal Jacket then I'd strongly encourage a watch. It's surprisingly not as brutal as other war films but that's not to say it isn't action packet because the second half certainly is. It's basically a story about humanity that shows how people in war are treated and dehumanized to become killing machines. Masterfully made with nice steelbook packaging courtesy of Best Buy. One note would be the paint on my disc was very fresh and made the top not smooth and when I received a replacement it had the same issue. This never happened to me with a 4K disc or BestBuy exclusive steelbook before so hopefully never happens again.

Who’s the leader of the club?
||Posted .Owned for 3 months when reviewed.Probably one of the best Vietnam War based movies. Have had Marine Corps ‘Nam vets tell me the boot camp 1/2 of the movie was fairly realistic. That is probably due to the late R Lee Ermey’s performance. Definitely a movie you can watch again and again.

Q: QuestionHow do I pre-ordered the steel book? It just reads coming soon, whereas the standard 4k version reads pre-order
Asked by Artemis.
- A:Answer I have been trying to pre order this since about September 3rd and it has said "Coming Soon" since then. I caught it a couple times where it said "Pre Order" and it let me add it to my cart but when I went to checkout it said the item was not available. Maybe they sold out all the pre orders. I think they can only sell a certain amount through pre order so they can give the people a chance to buy it in store, I may be wrong though. I'm assuming this because when it was first listed on their site you were able to buy/pre order it for a while, at least up until around September 3rd since that's when I ordered all this month's other pre order Steelbooks. I should have just bought it the second it went up for pre order but I'll just wait until release day, the 22nd, and order it super early in the morning in case it sells out. I know this has happened in the past with Steelbooks, they'll go up for pre order for a while then they just say coming soon until release day. Actually this just happened to me a month or two ago but I can't remember what movie it was. Just keep an eye on it and check back a few times a day and/or just wait until early morning on release day before Best Buy opens their stores and you should be able to order it then.
