Had to return
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Out of the box, the gps tracking would show me sometimes not in the right spot..navigation was trying to route me way out of my way. Went home and did and hour and a half of software updates. This morning, drove and the tracking was worse...had me on a right road until I turned, I went left, nav went straight. Brought it back to store

Purchased here, reviewing everywhere!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this Garmin from a local Best Buy for the same price as Amazon. That was an exceptional deal, considering it satisfied instant gratification. This Garmin DriveLuxe LMTHD is THE BEST mobile GPS solution for those looking for a dedicated unit in their vehicle. The HD Digital Traffic is on par with Google Maps, as far as I can tell. My Samsung Galaxy S7 was my go-to navigation solution for quite some time, but I hated having to leave my phone plugged in while navigating, lest I end my trip with significant battery impact. A dedicated GPS unit eases battery stress on a smartphone, as well as wear and tear on its charging port. That's a win-win in my book, especially since this unit rivals the prowess of a smartphone being used to navigate. I feel like I'm repeating myself, but it's just that good! Plugged it in to my laptop, fired up Garmin Express, and the latest update only took a mere 7 minutes to complete. Your mileage may vary.

Google Maps is better
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this GPS before taking a road trip. It routed me into stand still traffic and did not re-route. While sitting in stand still traffic, I pulled up Google Maps which re-routed me instantly and save me about 45 minutes of sitting in traffic. Bottom line: stick to Google Maps or Waze.

Replaced my OLD GPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After about a year research I decided to replace my 10 year old Garmin 660. I tried several other GPS's before sticking with this one. This is a major upgrade from my old one. With the HD traffic I save a lot of time by avoided the traffic. It has very accurate driving directions. A bit more expensive than some of the other models, but it's made very well and the graphics are great and quick processing. The red light and speed camera detection is great, wish I had this thing about a month ago and I could have avoided a ticket. It alerts you when your by a school zone, railroad crossing, ect. Very pleased with my purchase and hoping I'll have this one for ten years like my 660.

Excellent navigation unit.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As usual Garmin stomps the competition. Tons of features and options. The display is crisp and easy to see. The directions have been spot on and when I look up a POI they are local, not hundreds of miles away. Voice commands are easy and accurate. This unit puts my overpriced factory installed system to shame. I haven't experienced any of the problems a few of the reviews have mentioned. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Stick with Waze
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really, really wanted to like this device. The annual renewal on my iPhone navigation app came up and, rather than spend the $50 there, I decided to give the Garmin DriveLuxe a try. There are many pros to the device: the screen is excellent, it's highly portable (so you can take it with you when you leave the car), the software is good, and the voice is pleasant. That's all good, but what I really want is a device that can guide me to my destination. Unfortunately, that's where the Garmin fails. I updated the maps and software (a three-hour process), then settled in for some delicious navigation. "Find Jamba Juice," I asked. No problem, my Garmin said, and we're on our way. The Jamba Juice she found was 400 miles away, instead of the one that's three miles from my house. Okay, no problem, I'll just enter the address. Nope, that won't work because the DriveLuxe doesn't recognize the street Jamba Juice is on. Okay, what if I pick a store that's right next to the Jamba Juice. "Find Eagle Eye Booksellers," I asked. "You want to make a legal detour," the DriveLuxe asked. WTF? Yes, I want you, my Garmin DriveLuxe, to get out of my car and create a legal detour. Aside from laughably bad voice recognition, streets that don't exist (even when you're traveling on them) and woefully out of date maps, the navigation was also a bit off. For example, it tried to add a good mile to my commute by taking me down streets that were out of the way instead of more logical streets that were more straight-forward. Sadly, I returned the Garmin. I didn't use it long enough to test its ability to navigate through traffic. Since returning the device, I've installed Waze on my iPhone (even though I hate Google) and have been very happy with it. At least it can get me to the Jamba Juice three miles away and doesn't ask me if I want to make a legal detour.

Bulky, difficult to hold when needed. Heavy.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a long time user of Garmin Products. This unit has several issues that I'm not fond of. Bulky and heavy compared to the other units I have. In Nagasaki, Japan my last trip just a few weeks ago, the super strong unit snagged my keys causing me to drop the unit on the concrete. Never had this happened before. Secondly I must say our GPS navigation compared to Japan is simply crude. Most Japanese GPS almost are real time virtual maps. Expressway costs in real time, topographical data (opposed to flat) snow levels, I can go on and on. I was really shocked how behind the times we are. Back to the unit. Simply could be lighter and not as bulky. Built in Lithium last about 20 minutes on power save out of the box. That is with screen dimmed and so forth. I'm disappointed in this product. Having owned eight Garmin's it takes a lot to get me to complain. You dropped the ball on this unit.
