To start, I am basing this review off first owning a Microsoft Band, then an Apple Watch with a brief trial with Microsoft Band 2, which I returned and continued to use until I got the Fenix 3. So with that in mind, the immediate thing you will notice is the battery life. Again, battery life. I could wear the Fenix 3 for a 7-10 days easy without having to charge it-and thats with using it with GPS, and getting notifications. With the Apple watch I couldn't make it a day with notifications and forget trying to monitor sleep. You would have to pick strategic times throughout the day if I wanted to monitor sleep.
The fenix is just like a watch in that it's always on, no flick of the wrist-always on. which I still value. they call the devices smartWATCHES for a reason. So I know most people will probably state "But the apps on the Apple watch" and yes it does have a ton, but in reality 95% percent of them are not applicable on a daily basis once the cool factor wears off. Notifications are simple: click to read, click to delete. with the Apple watch its swipe, click trashcan, then reconfirm that you want to delete-oy vey. Now I love my Apple products, and I've been using them since the blue G3 tower-so no us against them type mentality its just that the Apple watch wants to be so much and doesn't really accomplish most at more than 75%.
TL;DR.
Pros: Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, Always on, looks great in direct sunlight (buy the screen protector-but then who doesn't?), GPS is great, battery life is awesome. Has controls (I just realized today how nice it is t click a button when you have gloves -it was 30s out-to control music or change screen for a run i.e. cadence, pace, heart rate. BTW I have a heart monitor (non gamin-still works) and shoe cadence thing which is cool to link up with. Also, for the guy who never likes to ask for directions it has a track back feature from where you started which is cool, so you don't get lost and you know become an extra is some horror film about lost on a trail and it gets dark and cue eerie music and crazy guy. #Aintnobodygottimetogetlost
Cons: Apps are not bad but scarce, don't expect to play a miniature version of whats popular on the Apple app store. or do Mobile banking.
Last thought: If you use popular apps like Strava, or others, the information can be shared on from the Garmin connect to those apps on your mobile device. So you still get the info.

I read several reviews on countless tracking watches and nothing can compare to this one.
I honestly can't tell you one flaw about this watch. It tracks, swimming, hiking, running (indoor and outdoor), skiing, cycling, & etc.
WORTH EVERY PENNY!
Buy this one & never buy another watch.

I love this thing. Connects to satellites quickly. Easy to use, easy to read the display, easy to customize. The only problem I have is the wireless sync to Garmin connect using wifi or bluetooth.

I looked at a lot of reviews before deciding on what to get. I talked to a lot of people who had Garmin and TomTom sports watches. Garmin won out on every aspect in that area. I am still learning to use all of the bells and whistles on my watch. But, 1 of the Awesome things is that it gives me my Recovery time after a workout based on the intensity and my HR during it. Now I am a Fitness Coach and I run Spartan Races (Soon to be a Spartan SGX Coach) and I wanted it for the trail running and navigation that is in this watch. I havent been able to take it on a trail run yet but everything else is Awesome! I have only had to charge it 2x in a month (which was 1 of my concerns after some of the reviews) which definitely puts this watch over the top. Took me a minute to get used to having a Big Face watch (since I am a girl) but hey it works for me. After I do a Trail run or two and a Spartan Race (coming up in August) I will update my review to include those functions as well. I highly recommend this watch to anyone who wants or needs more data for their training to improve! (even has skiing, jumping out of planes and golf as activities to track...which I do none of those but nice to know if I change my mind they are there lol)

The Fenix 3 by garmin is refreshingly functional. In an era of electronic devices that offer useless capabilities, this watch is straightforward, easy to operate and intuitive. You can set it up for use with virtually any activity. I have mine set up for Cycling, surfing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, downhill longboarding, LDP longboarding, 3D Archary, etc.
Want the best and most functional device on the narket? Get the Fenix 3 or get something else and wish you had.

This is my favorite watch i have owned yet and this is my 4th gps running/multisport watch. Does everything i need and does it well. While its fairly large it's not so large that it cant be worn to work or all the time. I wear it as my daily watch as well as for sport.

I don't have enough words to describe how awesome this watch is. It's big but comfortable to wear. You can wear it 24x7. Battery life is really good. Lasts around 5-7days. You get phone notifications as well. There is separate app store and it's growing with quality apps. I would highly recommend this watch.

I've had this watch for about a month and this is by far the best sports watch I have ever owned. The battery life is superb. The customization options are endless. I have taken this watch running, biking, hiking, weight lifting, and golfing. The stats that this machine generates are incredible. Garmin Connect has really come a long way in recent months. The Connecy store is easy to use and syncing is a breeze. If you are thinking about getting this time piece, just take the leap, you won't regret it.

Full disclosure, I returned this item. However, it was because this item was way beyond my needs. If you are a serious athlete doing a lot of multi sports than this is for you. It tracks everything you would ever use, need, or want. Plus, it alerts you to phone calls and email. It worked great. I just found that I didn't use 70% of the features. I think a person just trying to stay healthy would be better off with a Fitbit or something along those lines.

Great watch. Love using it when I'm running or riding my bike. Works great with my hear rate monitor and from what I can tell is pretty accurate.
It's survived numerous hot runs and a Spartan Race thus far. Looking forward to use it at my next two Spartan Races and a couple half marathons I have coming up.

The Fenix3 is basically a Garmin 920XT with a more stylish design and extra features for outdoors activities. No complaints at all after a month of ownership. Battery life is as advertised and can go a long time without charging. Can also see phone messages and Facebook updates om my watch when connected via blue tooth. Highly recommend to others.

This is one in a long line of data and sport watches all the way back to the Timex databank, through Nike products and 2 Garmin. Running and exercise this is the best that I have found for reliability and functions. It covers a wide array of exercises and tracking. The band is long and that works well for me personally (some bands were always on the second or third last notch. This is probably due to it being designed for triathletes fitting it over a wetsuit.
Take a look at the functions on Garmin from changing watch faces to compass and celestial displays. But most of all the exercise tracking with heart rate tracks (well enough for me) VO2 Max which is awesome in giving me a guideline to current level of fitness.

I've been a Garmin user for a long time now. The Fenix 3 is the watch I've been waiting for. This is truly a great multi-sport/function watch. I like how you can design your own work-outs on the Garmin Connect site, then send those work-outs to the watch. The activity tracker seems pretty accurate. Although, I think the sleep tracker may be inaccurate sometimes. The only issue I have experienced is the Garmin Connect web sight. It seems to be under maintenance quite a bit. If you're the type that doesn't like scratches, spend the extra cash and get the sapphire model. My watch didn't come with a HR strap, but I ended up purchasing one for my training. This is an excellent watch for those who are into multi-sports and are looking for a great alternative to the Apple watch.

This is a great watch, I would strongly recommend this for the active person that is tech smart. I was originally looking at the Vivoactive but for open water swim this was recommended. I love it and would recommend to a friend and/or family member.

Pros:
* A ton of features
* Race yourself with virtual partner
* Looks nice
* Appears to be accurate
* Can add a chest monitor for heart rate and cadence
Cons:
* No touchscreen (might be a pro, depends on taste)
* Buttons are stiff, repeatedly pulled my hair trying to press them.
* Cost way too high to justify my issues
* Only sync'd over wifi
* No feedback when syncing to let me know that it was doing anything
* Heavy
* Can only select wifi networks by connecting it to a computer, for some reason can't select the wifi by the watch or mobile app.
* Had to force it to sync to get it to sync at all.
* Can be a steep learning curve with so many features.
* Took longer to set up a run than to run.
* No heart rate monitor included (chest add-on is $100, or Fenix 3 HR is $599)
These might be minor gripes, but for a device that costs at least $499, these design issues shouldn't exist. I should have been extremely happy with my purchase, and I wasn't. I should have been able to start a run on the watch, do the run, and then when it was finished it should have sync'd automatically with the mobile app. It didn't do this. After fiddling with it, I found out I had to tell the phone to connect to wifi (it didn't do it automatically, even though I already set up the network) and then it sync'd with my mobile app. That doesn't even make sense.
I ended up returning the Fenix 3 and got a VivoActive HR. I am so much happier with it and it's $250 less.
tl;dr: I was extremely disappointed. The watch acted more like a $200 device, not a $500.
