This is a very good GPS for starters
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had initially bought this because a friend had the same. It not only looks nice, but comes with a lot of features of which I find he following the most useful. 1. Wide display 2. Lane indications - this is spoken as well and so it makes driving a lot more easier 3. Voice command There are really no flip sides apart from the fact that it might scratch a mite easy.

Not all who wander are lost
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had owned a Garmin NUVI in the past but never updated the maps. After seeing what it would run me to update it made more sense to buy new. This particular model features free lifetime map updates, sweet. After using it on several trips I am very satisfied. Finally my address can be located! Easy to program and gives landmarks making it easier to navigate through unfamiliar areas. I'm very happy with it.

The garmin is good for a beginner
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 3nd gps. I bought this model for the Bluetooth option which I really like. The issues which I don't like is it only shows the names of streets on one side of the road I am traveling and to use the traffic avoidance or notice of problems uses an app which I have yet to figure out. Other than the 2 items it is a great gps.

Nicely done but not perfect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I'm pleased with the 2597LMT. It gets me to where I need to go, the sound is good, the screen is clear, and it has lifetime map updates. There are many customizable options. You can load custom points of interest (such as specific store locations or geocaches). And I really like the voice command feature, which I haven't had before in my two previous GPS units. It's not perfect though (I've never known any brand to be). Once in a while it provides a strange route that isn't the fastest, even though I have the settings set for the fastest route. In the past it has directed me to get off the freeway, and then get right back on at the same intersection. And a few times it has directed me to turn on to a somewhat slower street when a faster one is available with negligible traffic. Not a big deal though; it got me to my destination. The voice command can only do so much, but that is to be expected. A lesson learned is to have an awareness of your route because any GPS can have issues at times. But I do like the unit and would heartily recommend it to anyone. Having said that, there are a few features that I wish it had. My previous GPS was a TomTom, and one thing I liked about that unit was that you could have a small compass on the screen so that you knew what direction you were heading at all times. That's not available on this Garmin unit. Frustrating. You can press the buttons to show a compass instead of the map, but one normally needs the map to see where they're going. Ditto for ETA & distance to destination. My old unit would show me two things I like to know while driving: the estimated time I would arrive, and how far I still have to go to get to my destination. This 5" Garmin unit will let you choose one or the other to show on the map, but not both at the same time like my smaller 3.5" TomTom. Again, I like the unit and would recommend it to others, even though it doesn't have all of the items from my "wish list."

Saves me so MUCH timeď
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am an independent field inspector and spend my work days inspecting foreclosure properties for lenders - many of these are VERY rural and hard to find. I use my Garmin every day, all day. This GPS does a fantastic job guiding me where I need to go. Saves me much time and lots of frustration!

Great GPS for the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 5" screen is great for "quick glance" viewing. The voice command activation works well but the radio has to be turned down for it to "hear" you. Traffic alerts come in handy but sometimes you are already in the traffic when the alert comes in. Oh, let's not forget the free lifetime map updates- a big plus over the older units that required you to buy updates.

Worked great while traveling in Canada!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't want to use my cell phone data plan while traveling in Canada, and renting a GPS from the car rental agencies for 2 weeks is very expensive. So I purchased this little garmin and it ended up saving me both time and money, not to mention that it works great. So much better than the older models....and these new models no longer announce "recalculating" :)

Does everything I want
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third Garmin product. This one has the additional feature of lane assistance, which I wanted to add. In addition, though, it has voice command, which is nice, even though a bit of fluff. So now I have free map updates, traffic assistance and alternative options for traffic jams if I want, plus the lane assistance. Recommend this product highly.

AWESOME GPS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.GPS has all one can want. Tells you what street you are and which streets you are approaching. It displays the speed limit for you and has built in voice control. It also has a trip feature which logs your driving path, avg speed, miles, etc.... Best of all it has life time maps and traffic updates. GPS is easy to use and has all one could ever need in a GPS.

WORKS GREAT!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the older model and purchased this newer version. What a great upgrade! The traffic updates are at real time. The pictures of the exits are accurate and the voice prompts is clear and easy to understand. It also gives more detail now regarding reroute whether it's for traffic or an accident. I was very impressed! I'm now buying another one for my father.

Great GPS, Big features with small price tag
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my wife so she would stop killing trees by printing off directions for everywhere new she needed to go and would get lost going there trying to follow the directions on the paper. This was on sale and had all the features i wanted her to have. Voice recognition was a huge one because i didn't want her trying to type something in while driving. It does a pretty decent job of understanding what you say on the first go around. Map is very detailed and also has the lane assist which i love. Lifetime maps and traffic was another feature i wanted as she drives in rush hour and could help with getting home earlier. I have always trusted Garmin GPS units ever since i started using them 7 years/3 units ago. I am in the service industry and i would trust no other to get me to the right spot easier than my Garmin.

Voice command works well but is temporamental
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The instructions were minimal, but the online site is really good, as is Garmin's phone help, which is excellent. For some reason the Voice Command feature has been temperamental. When it works it's a 5-star gadget. But it sometimes doesn't work at all, and so far I haven't figured this out. As a whole, I'm glad I bought this for those times it works. I imagine I'll become more adept as I use it more.

Great unit, easy to use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my mother as a Christmas gift. She previously had an older unit that was stolen, and this one is so much better. The screen is larger and so much more clear and she's able to use the navigation system easily (she's not very tech savvy). We also love the LMT feature.

Easy to use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Eventhough I have smart phone with enough data and all the apps that can replace a GPS, I still believe a stand alone device for navigation purpose is worth the money and the battery on a smart phone will drain fast using navigation. This GPS has got all the required features and all the bells and whistles that you expect in a GPS, with lifetime maps updates and traffic, you cant ak anymore.
